1. DVD AUDIO CD VIDEO CD You may play Tracks or Chapters in an order you specify instead of normal order 1 2 3 etc The order you set is a Program For example if you want to set up an Audio CD so Track 12 will play first put Track 12 in Program position number one 1 To set up a Program follow these steps 1 2 3 Press SYSTEM MENU The GENERAL SETUP PAGE icon will be selected Press OK or Press V to select PROGRAM 4 GENERAL SETUP PAGE OSD LANGUAGE SCREEN SAVER DISC LOCK DISPLAY DIM Press gt to select INPUT MENU then press OK The PROGRAM menu will appear This is where you enter the Track Chapter numbers in the order in which you want to play them The Number 1 space will be selected automatically as your starting point While the Number 1 space is highlighted press the Number buttons to enter the Title and or Chapter Track number you want to play first The number of available Titles Chapters or Tracks will appear at the top of the screen Audio CD example Use the Number buttons on the remote to enter other Titles Chapters Tracks Use the lt gt buttons to move to other Program positions Repeat

VIDEO CD Some Video CDs or Super Video CDs may contain preview or introductory information If you are not sure of the contents of a Video CD or its Tracks use the Preview features to see the content of the Tracks Not all Video CDs contain this information See your Disc case for details 1 Press the PREVIEW button to see the Preview menu SELECT DIGEST TYPE TRACK DIGEST DISC INTERVAL TRACK INTERVAL Press or to select TRACK DIGEST DISC INTERVAL or 2 TRACK INTERVAL then press OK If you select TRACK DIGEST the first five seconds of each Track will play This introduces you to the contents of each Track on the Disc To play a certain Track press to go to the SELECT line in the display at the bottom of the TV screen Press the Number buttons to enter the Track you want Then press OK to start playback TYPE TRACK SELECT 01 09 EXIT MENU Six Tracks will show on one screen To see other Tracks press Previous kad or Next the remote If you select DISC INTERVAL the Disc contents will be divided into six segments This helps you preview the contents of the entire Disc To start playing the Disc from a certain interval press A to

You may set the DVD Player to display video in one of three formats Letter amp Scan or Widescreen 16 9 To choose a format follow these steps The format you select must be available on the DVD If it is not the settings for TV DISPLAY will not affect the picture during DVD playback Press SYSTEM MENU Press gt to select the VIDEO SETUP PAGE icon at the top of the menu then press OK or V Press to select TV DISPLAY Then press gt 2 4 Press A or to select 4 3 PAN SCAN 4 3 LETTER BOX or 16 9 widescreen then press OK Your selection will be highlighted in brown Select 4 3 PAN SCAN if you want the picture to be trimmed or formatted to fit your TV screen This setting is possible only if the DVD is recorded in pan amp scan or regular format Check the Disc case for details Select 4 3 LETTER BOX if you want to see the entire widened picture with black bars at the top and bottom of the screen This looks like the picture you see when watching movies in a theater This setting is possible only if the DVD was recorded in the letterbox or widescreen format Check the Disc case for details Select 16 9 widescreen if you connected the DVD Player to a widescreen

DVD VIDEO CD Zoom Reduce You can reduce or enlarge the video image during playback Press ZOOM repeatedly during Disc playback to make the picture two three or four times larger Or keep pressing ZOOM to reduce the picture to 1 2 1 3 or 1 4 its normal size Press gt to move around the enlarged picture The blue box within a larger gray box that appears during zoomed play indicates the position of the zoomed area within the overall picture To return the picture to regular size press ZOOM until the picture returns to its normal size stop PLAY PAUSE SUBTITLE ANGLE ZOOM AUDIO REPEAT REPEAT PREVIEW MUTE DVD Camera Angle Some DVDs include scenes recorded from different angles To watch segments from a different angle follow these steps The DVD must have multiple angles available Check the DVD Disc case or Disc menu for details and availability During DVD playback press the ANGLE button repeatedly to select a different angle angles are not available may appear in the top left corner of the 2 In a few seconds playback changes to the selected angle If multiple TV screen when you press ANGLE REPEAT REPEAT PREVIEW MUTE

Digital Output If you connected the Player to a Stereo using the COAXIAL jack as shown on page 15 adjust DIGITAL OUTPUT audio as described below If you are not using the COAXIAL jack no adjustment is necessary Press SYSTEM MENU Press gt to select the AUDIO SETUP PAGE icon at the top of the menu Press OK or V Press V to select DIGITAL AUDIO SETUP then press OK DIGITAL OUTPUT will be highlighted in green Press gt 2 5 Press or to select ALL or PCM ONLY then press Your selection will be highlighted in brown Choose ALL to select the original default audio settings as received by most Stereos If the sound is distorted your Stereo may need to receive audio in the PCM format pulse code modulation contains only left and right audio signals Choose PCM ONLY if your Stereo is PCM compatible or cannot decode MPEG 2 audio Refer to your Stereo owner s manual for details UT A UJ N DIGITAL AUDIO PAGE LPCM OUTPUT 6 Press SYSTEM MENU to remove the menus LPCM Output If you connected the Player to a Stereo using the COAXIAL jack as shown on page 15 adjust LPCM OUTPUT Discs are recorded in a certain sampling rate The higher the sampling rate the better the sound quality Some Discs are recorded in a high sampling

Analog Sound that has not been turned into numbers Analog sound varies while digital sound has specific numerical values Analog sound is available when you use the red and white audio jacks on your equipment These jacks send audio through two channels the left and right AUDIO OUT Jacks Jacks on the rear of the DVD Player that send audio to another system TV Stereo etc The jacks are red and white CD Compact Disc Chapter A part of a Title COAXIAL jack Sends digital audio to a Stereo allowing you to adjust the volume at the Stereo The Stereo must have a Coaxial In jack This connection provides the 5 1 channel surround sound as heard in movie theaters The COAXIAL jack on the rear of the DVD Player is black Color system There are various systems for transmitting television signals for example PAL SECAM and NTSC NTSC is the most common color system in the United States of America Component Video Y Pb Pr Jacks The Video Out jacks on the rear of the DVD Player that send high quality video to a TV that has Component Video In jacks The jacks on the DVD Player are red blue and green Digital Sound that has been converted into numerical values Digital sound is available when you use the Player s COAXIAL jack which sends audio through multiple channels instead of two channels as analog doe

You can set the Player to block or allow playback according to the DVD movie rating Some DVDs may give you the option of entering your password to allow playback If not change the PARENTAL setting so you can watch the Disc Not all DVDs conform to the levels you select as not all DVDs are coded 6 or protected by the DVD manufacturer Therefore make sure the DVD plays according to your PARENTAL setting before you allow children unlimited access to the Player or DVDs To prevent specific DVDs from playing regardless of how you set the PARENTAL level see page 29 1 Press STOP twice to stop DVD playback 2 Press SYSTEM MENU 3 6 3 Press gt to select the PREFERENCE PAGE icon at the top 1 SUBTITLE ANGLE ZOOM AUDIO of the menu then press OK or You can select PREFERENCE PAGE only if you have completely stopped DVD playback by pressing STOP twice as directed in step 1 REPEAT REPEAT PREVIEW MUTE Press to select PARENTAL then press P AUDIO SUBTITLE DISC PARENTA PHILIPS DEFAULT MP3IJPEG NAV Press A or to choose the Parental level at which you want 5 to restrict playback then press OK For example if you do not want children to watch movies rated above PG select 3 PG D
