1. Notes In case of a malfunction in the central locking system the doors and trunk can be locked and unlocked individually If the fuel filler flap cannot be opened refer to Fuel Filler Flap Manual Release see Index w x Pi will 7 7 if baie a ut PT5 012 B13 The trunk lid can be lowered by using the recessed grips in the trunk lid liner and closed with the dirt free retracting handle If the trunk lid cannot be closed refer to Trunk Lid Manual Closing see Index 35 Power Windows and Sliding Pop Up Roof 1 Closing 2 Interrupting 3 Opening When locking doors or trunk turn key in door lock or trunk lock to position 3 and hold The windows and the sliding pop up roof begin to close automatically after approximately 2 seconds To interrupt the closing procedure turn key to position 2 When unlocking doors or trunk turn key in door lock or trunk lock to position 1 and hold The windows and the sliding pop up roof begin to open automatically after approximately 1 second To interrupt the opening procedure turn key to position 2 Warning Never operate the windows or sliding pop up roof if there is the possiblity of anyone being harmed by the procedure In case the procedure causes potential danger the procedure can be immediately reversed by turning the key to the reversed operational direction within 10 seconds e for opening position 1 e for closing position 3

The key must be in steering lock position 2 To positively avoid a possibility of damage to the transmission however we recommend to disconnect the drive shaft at the rear axle drive flange on any towing beyond a short tow to a nearby garage Do not tow with sling type equipment Towing with sling type equipment over bumpy roads will damage radiator and supports Use wheel lift dolly or flat bed equipment with key in steering lock turned to position 0 Note To signal turns while being towed with hazard warning flasher in use turn key in steering lock to position 2 and activate combination switch for left or right turn signal in usual manner only the selected turn signal will operate Upon canceling the turn signal the hazard flasher will operate again 123 Cleaning and Care of the Vehicle Warning Many cleaning products can be hazardous Some are poisonous others are flammable Always follow the instructions on the particular container Always open your car s doors or windows when cleaning the inside Never use fluids or solvents that are not designed for cleaning your car In operation your vehicle is subjected to varying external influences which if gone unchecked can attack the paint work as well as the underbody and cause lasting damage Such damage is caused not only by extreme and varying climatic conditions but also by air pollution road salt tar gravel and stone chipping Grease

Check engine oil level approximately 5 minutes after stopping the engine allowing for the oil to return to the oil pan Wipe oil dipstick clean prior to checking the engine oil level Fully insert dipstick in tube and remove after three seconds to obtain accurate reading Oil level must be between the lower min and upper max mark of the dipstick PO1 00 8 HET Fill quantity between upper and lower dipstick marking level is approximately 2 1 US qt 2 0 I Do not overfill the engine Excessive oil must be drained or siphoned It could cause damage to engine and catalytic converter not covered by the Mercedes Benz Limited Warranty For low engine oil level warning lamp see Index Automatic Transmission Fluid Level The transmission has a permanent fill of automatic transmission fluid Regular automatic transmission fluid level checks and changes are not required For this reason the dipstick is omitted When noticing fluid loss or gear shifting malfunctions have your authorized Mercedes Benz dealer check the transmission fluid level 106 Poe nat bets 4 aay talem vi jag DOS a If the trunk is to remain open for a long period of time the trunk lamp can be switched off This prevents the vehicle battery from being discharged aoe When the trunk lid is closed the switch will reset and turn on the lamp next time the lid is opened When switching the lamp off the trunk lid handle als

17. the Mercedes Benz Limited Warranty For engine protection the fuel supply is interrupted if the engine is operated within the red marking Coolant Temperature Gauge If the antifreeze mixture 1s effective to 30 C 22 F the boiling point of the coolant in the pressurized cooling system of your vehicle is approx 130 C 266 F During severe operating conditions and stop and go city traffic the coolant temperature may rise close to the red marking The engine should not be operated with the coolant temperature in the red zone The engine should not be operated with the coolant temperature in the red zone Doing so may cause serious engine damage which is not covered by the Mercedes Benz Limited Warranty Warning Driving when your engine is badly overheated can cause some fluids which may have leaked into the engine compartment to catch fire You could be seriously burned Turn off the engine and get out of the car until it cools down Steam from an overheated engine can cause serious burns and can occur just by opening the engine hood Stay away from the engine if you See or hear steam coming from it Turn off the engine and do not stand near the car until it cools down Turn off the engine get out of the car and do not stand near the car until it cools down 90 Low Engine Coolant Level Warning Lamp With the key in steering lock position 2 the warning lamp comes on and goes out with the engin

E A E SEO aC oe 7 1 LPL iad Warning Do not allow your tires to wear down too far With less than 3 mm 1 8 in of tread the adhesion properties on a wet road are sharply reduced Depending upon the weather and or road surface conditions the tire traction varies widely Specified tire pressures must be maintained This applies particularly if the tires are subjected to high loads e g high speeds heavy loads high ambient temperatures Warning Do not drive with a flat tire A flat tire affects the ability to steer or brake the vehicle You may lose control of the car Continued driving with a flat tire or driving at high speed with a flat tire will cause excessive heat build up and possibly a fire or tire blowout Aquaplaning Depending on the depth of the water layer on the road aquaplaning may occur even at low speeds and with new tires Avoid track grooves in the road arid apply brakes cautiously in the rain 18 Tire Traction The safe speed on a wet snow covered or icy road is always lower than on a dry road You should pay particular attention to the condition of the road as soon as the prevailing temperatures fall close to the freezing point Warning If ice has formed on the road tire traction will be substantially reduced Under such weather conditions drive steer and brake with extreme caution We recommend M S radial ply tires for the winter season for all four wheels

22. be started with jumper cables and the 12V battery of another vehicle The battery is located in the trunk behind the right hand cover panel Proceed as follows 1 Position the vehicle with the charged battery so that the jumper cables will reach but never let the vehicles touch Make sure the jumper cables do not have loose or missing insulation 2 On both vehicles e Turn off engine and all lights and accessories except hazard warning flashers or work lights e Apply parking brake and shift selector lever to position P Important 3 Clamp one end of the first jumper cable to the positive terminal of the discharged battery and the other end to the positive terminal of the charged battery Make sure the cable clamps do not touch any other metal parts 4 Clamp one end of the second jumper cable to the grounded negative terminal of the charged battery and the final connection to the negative terminal of the discharged battery Important 5 Start engine of the vehicle with the charged battery and run at high idle Make sure the cables are not on or near pulleys fans or other parts that will move when the engine is started Then start engine of the disabled vehicle in the usual manner 6 After the engine has started remove jumper cables by exactly reversing the above installation sequence starting with the last connection made first When removing each clamp make sure that it d
