1. Figure 21 The appliance should then relight and remain lit If this does not occur turn off the appli ance and call a qualified service technician Wire Terminals Right Side Refractory Panel NOTE DIAGRAMS amp ILLUSTRATIONS NOT TO SCALE Maintenance The appliance and venting system should be thoroughly inspected before initial use and at least annually by a qualified service techni cian Proper maintenanceand use will require more frequent less extensive inspections and servicing by the homeowner Generally annual inspections should be per formed by aqualified servicetechnician More frequent periodic inspections and cleanings should be performed by the homeowner Any discrepancies discovered by the homeowner should result in a call to a qualified service technician to effect the repair or correction Refer to the maintenance schedulefor mainte nance tasks procedures periodicity and by whom they should be performed IMPORTANT TURN OFF GAS AND ANY ELEC TRICAL POWER BEFORE SERVICING THE APPLIANCE Burner Adjustments Flame Appearance and Sooting Proper flame appearance is a matter of taste Generally most people prefer the warm glow of a yellow to orange flame Appliances operated with air shutter openings that are too large or with long vertical vent runs will exhibit flames that are blue and transparent These weak blue and transparent flames are termed anemic If the air shutter opening is too

TO GIVE YOUR APPLIANCE A SAFE RELI ABLE AND ATTRACTIVE FLAME PAT TERN ANY ATTEMPT TO USE A DIFFER ENT LOG SET IN THE FIREPLACE WILL VOID THE WARRANTY AND WILL RE SULT IN INCOMPLETE COMBUSTION SOOTING AND POOR FLAME QUALITY The logs are packaged within the firebox The bag of rockwool is in the lower control compartment Remove the rockwool from the packaging and tear into dime size pieces Figure 10 on page 8 Spread across the burner evenly Do not use more than is necessary to cover the burner When prop erly positioned the rockwool will unevenly cover approximately 85 of the burner with no appreciable gaps These appliances are equipped with a beauti fully crafted five 5 piece ceramic fiber log set The logs shown in Figure 11 on page 8 are to be positioned precisely as shown Any modi fication to the to the lay of these logs may result in sooting property damage and injury or death All logs that engage pins have mating holes for pin engagement on their bottom sides DONOT force a hole into a log by engaging the pins where they are not intended to go Apparent minor mis alignment of the pins and holes can be eliminated by gently adjusting the position of the logs until the pins and holes easily mate Step 1 To position the logs begin by placing the rear log c in position over the two pins located at the right center rear and right rear of the log grate refer to Figure 11 Step2 Position the fro
8. and or adjust pilot for maxi lighting instructions mum flame impingement on thermogenerator Ensure that the connection between the valve and thermogenerator are tight and secure Pilot burning no gas to A Damper closed or Damper Switch Ensure damper control lever is locked in the open position burner Valve knob ON defective all the way to the right If the damper control lever is locked Wall Switch ON in the open position troubleshoot through Steps B C and D below If the main burner will still not light determine if the damper switch is defective and replace if necessary B Wall switch or wires defective Check wall switch and wires for proper connections Jumper wire across terminals at wall switch if burner comes on replace defective wall switch If okay jumper wires across wall switch wires at valve if burner comes on wires are faulty or connections are bad C Thermopile may not be generating Check thermopile with millivolt meter Take reading at ther sufficient millivoltage mopile terminals of gas valve Should read 325 millivolts minimum with optional wall switch OFF Replace faulty thermopile if reading is below specified minimum D Plugged burner orifice Check burner orifice for stoppage and remove 4 Frequent pilot burner outage A Pilot flame may be too low or Clean and or adjust pilot flame for maximum flame impinge problem blowing high causing the pilot ment on thermogenerator F

IT Valve Shown Figure 1 Millivolt appliances will be fitted with one of the two gas control valves shown in Figure 2 on page 4 Appliances with electronic sys tems will be fitted with the electronic valve shown in Figure 3 on page 4 Familiarize yourself with the differing controls for the valve your appliance uses To light millivolt appliances refer to the de tailed lighting instructions found in both En glish and French on pages 10 and 11 of these instructions respectively Millivolt and elec tronic appliance lighting instructions may also be found on the pull out rating plate located within the gas control compartment Refer to Figure 2 tor the spark ignitor location used with your appliance If your appliance is equipped with an optional remote wall switch or remote control kit the appliance main burner may beturned on and off with the wall switch or remote control If the appliance is not equipped with a wall or remote control the main burner must be turned off and on with the gas control knob Turn the knob counter clockwise from the PILOT position to ON to light the main burner and clockwise from ON to PILOT to turn off the main burner To light electronic appliances refer to the detailed lighting instructions found in both English and French on pages 12 and 13 of these instructions respectively Millivolt and electronic appliance lighting instructions may also be found on the pull out rating plate located within the g

NTROLS This appliance is fitted with a manually con trolled vent damper The vent damper should be closed when the appliance is not in use to prevent cold air from entering the homethrough the venting system The damper is controlled through the use of acontrol lever located within the appliance opening at the top center in front of the firebox lintel see Figure 5 The control lever snaps into place at either extreme of its range of motion When locked in position all the way to the right the damper is open When locked in position all the way to the left the damper is closed The damper lever actuates a switch see wir ing diagram which will prevent the appliance main burner from lighting unless the damper is locked open The appliance flue damper must always remain open when operating WARNING DAMPER MUST BE IN OPEN POSITION WHEN APPLIANCE MAIN BURNER IS OPERATING AVERTISSEMENT LE REGISTRE DOIT TRE EN POSITION OUVERTE LORSQUE LE OU LES BRULEURS PRINCIPAUX DE L APPEREIL FONCTIONNMENT Outside Air Actuator Figure 5 Many appliances are equipped when installed with an outside make up air vent system that is designed to provide the appliance with outside make up air for combustion when in operation The shut off lever for the outside air system is standard on all appliances but should not be operated if the complete system is not installed Refer to Figure 5 When the complete outside air vent sy

38. sation principale 5 Fermez la porte du compartiment de contr le du bas 13 TROUBLESHOOTING THE MILLIVOLT GAS CONTROL SYSTEM Note Before troubleshooting the gas control system be sure external gas shut off valve located at gas supply inlet is in the ON position Important Valve system troubleshooting should only be accomplished by a qualified service technician SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTIVE ACTION 1 Spark ignitor will not light A Defective ignitor Check for spark at electrode and pilot if no spark and pilot after repeated no spark at electrode electrode wire is properly connected replace ignitor triggering of ignitor button B Defective or misaligned electrode Using a match light pilot If pilot lights turn off pilot and at pilot spark at electrode trigger the ignitor button again If pilot lights an improper gas mixture caused the bad lighting and a longer purge period is recommended If pilot will not light check gap at electrode and pilot should be 3 to have a strong spark If gap measures replace pilot Figure 9 on page 7 C Gas supply pressure errant Check inlet gas pressure It should be within the limits as marked on the rating plate D Pilot orifice plugged Clean or replace pilot orifice 2 Pilot will not stay lit after A Defective pilot generator Check pilot flame it must impinge on thermogenerator carefully following the thermogenerator Figure 9 on page 7 Clean
39. small sooting may develop Sooting is indicated by black puffs developing at the tips of very long orange flames Sooting results in black deposits form ing on the logs appliance inside surfaces and on exterior surfaces adjacent to the vent termi nation Sooting is caused by incomplete com bustion in the flames and alack of combustion air entering the air shutter opening To achieve awarm yellow to orange flame with an orange body that does not soot the shutter opening must be adjusted between these two extremes No smoke or soot should be present Reposi tion the log set if the flames impinge on any of them If sooting conditions exist the air shutter opening on the main burner can be adjusted Normally the more offsets in the vent system the greater the need for the air shutter to be opened further WARNING AIR SHUTTER ADJUSTMENT SHOULD ONLY BE PERFORMED BY A QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL SERVICE TECHNICIAN Maintenance Schedule Annually Before the onset of the Burning Season Maintenance Task Accomplishing Person Inspecting Cleaning Burner Logs Qualified Service Technician Inspect valve and ensure it is properly operat and Controls ing Check piping for leaks Vacuum the control compartment fireplacelogs and burner area Check Flame Patterns and Flame Height Qualified Service Technician Refer to Figure 8 on page 7 and verify the flame pattern and height displayed by the appliance conforms to the picture F
