KOHLER ETERNIT BATH WHIRLPO P TM INSTALLATION MANUAL Installation Maintenance and Start Up Procedures For the K 1522 ET ETERNITY BATH WHIRLPOOL from Kohler Co INSTRUCTIONS PERTAINING TO RISK OF FIRE ELECTRIC SHOCK OR INJURY TO PERSONS IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS ATTENTION INSTALLER AND OWNER READ AND FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS A WARNING When using this unit basic precautions should always be followed including the following A DANGER To reduce the risk of injury do not permit children to use this unit unless they are closely supervised at all times Use this unit only for its intended use as denoted in this manual DO NOT use attachments not recommended by the Kohler Co Never drop or insert any object into any opening DO NOT operate this unit without the guard on the suction fitting The unit must be connected only to a circuit that is protected by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter GFCI Such a GFCI should be provided by the installer and should be tested on a routine basis To test the GFCI press the test button The GFCI should interrupt power Press the reset button Power should be restored If the GFCI fails to operate in this manner there is a ground current flowing or the GFCI is defective The possibility of an electric shock may exist DO NOT use this unit Disconnect the unit and have the problem corrected by a qualified licensed electrician A pressu

10. ard wall board Figs 21 and 22 show two different ways that this can be done Fig 21 shows the wallboard setting directly onto the rim Fig 22 shows a ledge installation with the wallboard away from the rim Install finished wall material to the framing and walls Notice that a silicone sealant MUST be used between the subwall and finish wall materials along the bath rim Seal joints under the unit rim between the bath and finished wall with a water resistant sealer DO NOT SUPPORT THE UNIT BY ITS RIM WALLBOARD BATH RIM SILICONE SEALANT JOINTS Fig 21 Fig 22 OPTIONAL 1525 APRON INSTALLATION OPTIONAL APRON CLEAN UP AFTER INSTALLATION If the unit has been operated for startup and troubleshooting and will not be used for over 72 hours ensure that all water is drained from the air channels by turning on the blower with the drain closed Open the drain after all residual water has been blown out of the air channels When cleaning up after installation DO NOT USE ABRASIVE CLEANERS as they may scratch and dull the surface Use warm water and a liquid detergent to clean the surface Stubborn stains paint or tar can be removed with turpentine or paint thinner DO NOT ALLOW CLEANERS CONTAINING PETROLEUM DISTILLATES TO REMAIN IN CONTACT WITH PLATED OR ACRYLIC SURFACES FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME Plaster can be removed by scraping with a wood edge Do not use metal scrapers wire brush

13. d plumbing installations must be complete before the unit is tested and installed LEVELING AND SETTLING THE UNIT 1 Refer to FRAMING CONSTRUCTION before installing the unit Carry the unit to the site as illustrated in Fig 8 Four or more people should move the unit When moving the unit DO NOT LET IT DROP ONTO THE FLOOR IMPORTANT DO NOT LET THE UNIT DROP EVEN A SHORT DISTANCE AS THE ACRYLIC SHELL AND COMPONENTS MAY BE DAMAGED DO NOT USE THE PIPING OR PUMP ETC AS STRUCTURAL SUPPORT 2 Remove the packing leg from the pump as shown in Fig 9 and discard 3 When installing the unit make sure the subfloor is level and the walls are plumb Check for level along the top of the unit The unit must be level and resting on both legs DO NOT SHIM UNDER THE LEGS AS THE BATH MAY DAM AGED SHIM THE SUBFLOOR ONLY CONSTRUCT SUITABLE PROTECTION TO COVER THE ENTIRE WHIRLPOOL AND FITTINGS SO THEY WILL NOT BE DAMAGED DURING CONSTRUCTION 4 When the unitis securely positioned connect the drain line to the trap as shown in Fig 10 You may install the trap and drain line in the most convenient location away from the electrical components Refer to PREPARATION FRAMING CONSTRUCTION and UNDER THE UNIT 5 IF YOU ARE NOT USING THE OPTIONAL K 1525 APRON 7 PROVIDE ACCESS TO THE

15. es or other metal tools One of the powder type detergents be used damp cloth to provide mild abrasive action to the residual plaster One of the joys of owning a Kohler acrylic unit is the ease of cleaning no seams or tight corners for lime or mildew to build up Wiping dry with a soft cloth or sponge is a good routine to follow If you have a busy houseful of habitual bathers you may wantto resort to a little more care Please DO NOT USE ABRASIVE CLEANERS on your acrylic unit We recommend soft cleaners such as 19 Refer to Fig 23 Slide apron lip up into groove on the unit as illustrated After the lip is snugly fit into the groove slide apron into position This apron is designed to be removable for access to the whirlpool equipment Amway L O C Cleaner Dow Spray Cleaner Lysol Tub amp Tile Cleaner Mr Clean Bathbrite FRP Cleaner If a stubborn build up appears the use of an automotive polishing compound such as DuPont No 7 followed by an application of a good quality automotive paste wax will restore the finish of your unit Before using your new Eternity Bath Whirlpool read the important safety operating and maintenance instructions in the Eternity Bath Whirlpool Owner s Manual Occasional disinfecting and cleansing of the entire bath pump etc is recommended PLEASE SAVE THIS MANUAL AS IT CONTAINS WARRANTY AND MAINTENANCE INFORMATION FOR REPLACEMENT PARTS PL

17. l service for the Eternity Bath Whirlpool requires a 240 V 30 amp single phase circuit The three wire plus ground service should be connected by your electrician in accordance with local codes 1 Metal structures including handrails stairs railings base board vents metal reinforcing in concrete slabs etc within five feet of the bath edge must be bonded to the power panel bonding terminal Use a minimum of 8 AWG solid copper wiring and approved bonding clamps Refer to Fig 14 All electrical components and current carrying collectors are grounded to a common bonding bar on the power panel Consult local codes for proper connection to the bonding bar NOTE All electrical components and current carrying collectors are bonded to this bonding bar An approved focal ground may be an eight foot ground rod a plate electrode or a buried metal water pipe CONSULT LOCAL ELECTRICAL CODES Refer to Important Safety Instructions on page 2 of this manual Electrical receptacles must not be closer than ten feet from the unit All receptacles MUST have GFCI protection Unless there is a minimum of twelve feet from the highest water level to the light fixture electrical light fixtures should not be installed directly over the unit If lights are to be installed on walls they must be at least five feet above the floor ground Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter GFCI pro tection must be provided to the light fixt
