RECORDING Recording cannot be performed Recording does not start PLAYBACK The tape is running but there s no playback picture e The battery pack has not been attached correctly r pg 6 e The battery pack is not charged r pg 6 The power supply has not been correctly connected gt pg 7 The battery pack has completely discharged Remove the cassette and disconnect the power source then after a few minutes try turning the power back on If it still doesn t come on consult your nearest JVC dealer e The recording tape s Erase Protection tab is missing Cover the hole with adhesive tape Some tapes have sliding tabs In this case check the position of the tab The camcorder Power switch has not been set to CAMERA F pg 12 The TV has not been set to its VIDEO mode or channel If A V connection is used the TV s VIDEO TV switch has not been set to VIDEO The RF unit has not been set to the correct channel Playback picture is blurred or The video heads are dirty or worn out Consult your interrupted nearest JVC dealer for head cleaning or replacement The counter indication is blurred e This is normal during Still playback TAPE TRANSPORT Noise bars appear in the playback e Manual Tracking has not been performed t pg 33 picture The tape stops during fast forward or The Counter Memory Function has been activated rewind C pg 33 Rewinding o

Only video signal is recorded in the Insert Editing mode Audio dubbing indicator dcs PS Viewfinder To MIC e capped _ lt RM V704U or RM V700U provided 41 Audio Dubbing You can record a new soundtrack on a prerecorded tape normal audio only Perform steps 1 2 and 3 of the Insert Editing procedure pg 40 before continuing The sound comes from the built in mike or an external mike if connected FIND EDIT IN POINT Press REW to go a little beyond the beginning of the scene onto which you want to dub new audio press PLAY to view the recorded tape then press PAUSE at exactly the point where dubbing should start ENGAGE AUDIO DUB STANDBY MODE Press and hold A DUB and without releasing A DUB press and release PAUSE BEGIN AUDIO DUBBING Press PLAY When the counter reaches 0 00 00 Audio Dubbing stops automatically and the camcorder enters the Audio Dub Standby mode END AUDIO DUBBING 4 Press STOP NOTES Do not press FF or REW during Audio Dub Standby or the edit points will not be accurate e If the mike is too close to the TV or if the TV s volume is too high whistling or howling may occur NOTES for Insert Editing and Audio Dubbing e Insert Editing and audio Dubbing may not work correctly if the tape contains blank segments or if the recording speed was changed during the original recording To edit dub

8. 25 12 97 10 45 56 RECORDING Advanced Features cont Date Time Character Insert This feature allows you to display date time and characters in your viewfinder and on a connected colour monitor record them manually or automatically and even make your own titles NOTE You should already have performed the Date Time Setting procedure t pg 9 If you haven t do so before continuing DISPLAY SELECT MODE Turn the PROGRAM AE select dial to any position except AUTO LOCK SELECT DISPLAY 2 Press SELECT repeatedly until gt Disp appears CHOOSE DISPLAY MODE Press SET while in Record Standby to cycle through the modes as shown in the illustration at left NOTES e The selected display can be recorded If you don t want to record the display select Date off mode before shooting If you want to delete the display during shooting engage the Record Standby mode and select the Date off mode using SET AUTO DATE RECORD Your camcorder automatically records the date for about 5 seconds after recording is initiated in the following situations After changing the date After loading a cassette After Auto Date Record mode is selected by pressing SET In this mode the date is replaced after 5 seconds with Auto Date NOTES Setting PROGRAM AE to LOCK always engages this mode and disables all other modes e In the Auto Date Record mode if the date changes while you re sh

19. unit immediately and consult your local JVC dealer SPECIAL NOTES ON VIDEO HEADS Dust and dirt on video heads 1 Always allow enough time for your camcorder to acclimatize to its environment before using it 2 Do not use the unit in areas of high humidity Typical areas of high humidity are given below From being used or stored in a very cold outdoor situation then immediately being used in a warm indoor situation From being used or stored in a cool air conditioned situation then being used in a high humidity outdoor situation Other areas where rapid large temperature changes can occur 3 Taking care of your C format video cassette tapes Store the video cassette tapes in a vertical position complete in their cassette cases During transportation always store cassettes in their cassette cases 4 Check recorded information at regular intervals If the camcorder is equipped with a quick review facility use this facility to check whether the picture is clear or not If the quick review or playback picture is not clear then the video heads may be dirty Note As a maladjusted tracking control can give similar symptoms to dirty video heads please check that the tracking control of the unit is in the centre position Cleaning the video heads Accumulation of dirt and other particles on the video heads may cause the playback picture to become blurred or interrupted Although this camcorder i
