3. whichis interfering elec tomagnetic energy EM emitted from sourcessuch as radio stations TV stations amateurradio HAM transmitiers two way radios and cellular phones The interference from radio wave sources can cause pow ered wheelchair tp release its brakes move by itself or move in unintended directions It can also pemanently damage the powered wheelchair s contol system The intensity of the interfering EM energy can be measured in volts per meter V m Each powered wheelchaircan resist EMI up to a certain intensity This iscalled its immunity level The higherthe immunity level the greaterthe protec tion At this time current technology is capable of achieving atleasta 20 V m immunity level which would provide useful protection from the more common sourc esof radiated EMI This powered wheel chair model as shipped has an unknown immunity level GENERAL GUIDELINES PROCEDURE 1 There are a number of sources of relatively intense electromagnetic fields in the everyday environ ment Some ofthese sourc esare obvious and easy tp avoid Others notapparentand exposure is unavoidable However we believe thatby following the wamings listed below your risk to EMI will be minimized The sources of radiated EMI can be broadly classified into three types Hand held Portable transceivers transmitiers rec eivers with the antenna mounted directly on the transmitling unit Examplesinclude citizens band CB radios w
