1. 3 With the help of a second person raise the treadmill Frame 55 Hold the Latch Housing 68 and the Latch Housing Cover 5 against the sides of the Frame as shown Loosely thread the two blunt tipped 1 2 Screws 132 into the Latch Housing Cover and the Latch Housing as shown Do not tighten the Screws yet Remove the knob from the pin Make sure that the collar and the spring are on the pin The collar should be on the side of the spring shown Insert the pin into the Latch Housing 68 and tighten the knob back onto it Align the pin with the hole in the Left Handgrip 3 by slid ing the Latch Housing 68 up or down Make sure that the pin can be inserted fully into the hole Hold the Latch Housing in place as you tighten two 1 2 Tek Screws 114 x Spring into the Latch Housing and the Frame 55 Then tighten Pin the 1 2 Screws 132 Note It may be necessary to pull on the knob to access and tighten the Screws 4 Note the location of the 75 ohm terminal near the power cord For the television to operate properly a CATV cable must be connected to the 75 ohm terminal see page 9 75 Ohm Terminal 5 Make sure that all parts are properly tightened before you use the treadmill Place a mat beneath the treadmill to protect the floor or carpet Note Extra hardware may be included Keep the included hex key in a secure place the hex key is used to adjust the walking

Wear appropriate exercise clothes when using the treadmill Do not wear loose clothes that could become caught in the treadmill Athletic support clothes are recommended for both men and women A ways wear ath letic shoes Never use the treadmill with bare feet wearing only stockings or in sandals When connecting the power cord see page 10 plug the power cord into a surge suppressor not included and plug the surge suppressor into a grounded circuit capable of carrying 15 or more amps No other appliance should be on the same circuit Do not use an extension cord Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that meets all of the specifications described on page 10 To purchase a surge suppressor see your local IMAGE dealer or call the toll free telephone number on the front cover of this manual and order part number 146148 or see your local electronics store 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 Failure to use a properly functioning surge suppressor could result in damage to the con trol system of the treadmill If the control sys tem is damaged the walking belt may change speed accelerate or stop unexpectedly which may result in a fall and serious injury Keep the power cord and the surge suppres sor away from heated surfaces Never move the walking belt while the power is turned off Do not operate the treadmill if the power cord or plug is damaged or if the treadmill is not working properl
4. at the right 4 Press the Volume buttons to adjust the volume When either Volume button is pressed the vol ume level indicator will appear on the screen for a few seconds To temporarily mute the sound press the Mute button Press the Mute button again to listen to the television Note To use ear phones or headphones not included plug them into the headphone jack on the console 5 When you are finished using the television press the Power button Press the Power button to turn off the television Note Removing the key from the console will also turn off the television 20 HOW TO USE THE INFORMATION MODE The console features an information mode that allows you to view treadmill usage information select a sys tem of measurement for the console and turn on and turn off the demo mode The information mode also al lows you to adjust the settings of the television and to save channels into the television s memory Follow the steps below to use the information mode Hold down the Stop button while inserting the key into the console When the information mode is selected the left display will show the total number of hours that the treadmill has been used The right display will show the total number of miles or kilometers that the walking belt has moved In addition the right display will show the letter E for English miles or the letter M for metric kilome ters Press the Speed increase
5. belt see pages 23 and 24 For your benefit we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the TROUBLESHOOTING section on pages 23 and 24 Before operating the television you must connect a 75 ohm CATV cable to the 75 ohm terminal on the treadmill Note Use a CATV cable to connect to an external source such as a cable box analog cable satellite TV box or VCR No CATV cable is included HOW TO CONNECT A 75 OHM CATV CABLE HOW TO CONNECT AN EXTERNAL SOURCE USING A CATV CABLE 1 Connect a 75 ohm CATV cable to the 75 75 Ohm CATV Cable 1 Connect one end of a 75 ohm CATV cable to the 75 ohm terminal near the ohm output jack on your external source power cord amp 2 Plug in the power cord of your external source See your external source s user s manual for proper grounding instructions 75 Ohm Terminal 3 Connect the 75 ohm CATV cable to the 75 ohm ter minal near the power cord TREADMILL OPERATION THE PRE LUBRICATED WALKING BELT Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with high performance lubricant IMPORTANT Never apply sil icone spray or other substances to the walking belt or the walking platform Such substances will deteriorate the walking belt and cause excessive wear HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD A DANGER Improper connection of the equipment grounding conductor can result in an increased risk of electric shock Check with a qualified electrician or service man if you are in doubt as to whe

7. of the treadmill as desired To change the incline of the treadmill press the Incline buttons Each time a button is pressed the incline will change by 0 5 To change the incline setting quickly press the numbered Incline buttons Note After the buttons are pressed it may take a moment for the treadmill to reach the selected in cline setting Follow your progress with the displays The left display tThis display will show the elapsed time your pace in minutes per mile and the incline level of the treadmill Note When a pro gram is selected this display will show the time remaining in the program instead of the elapsed time Each time the incline of the treadmill changes the display will show the incline setting for several seconds The left display will also show a training zone bar that indicates the approximate intensity of your ex ercise For example if four to six segments of the bar appear the bar shows that your exercise inten sity is ideal for weight loss Training Zone Bar Track Performance When the manual mode is selected the left display will also show a track As you exercise the indica tors around the track will appear in succession until the entire track is lit The track will then dis appear the indicators will again begin to appear in succession The right display tThis display will show the dis tance that you have walked or run the number of 1 4 mile laps you have complet
8. step 5 on pages 12 and 13 8 Turn on the fan if desired See step 7 on page 13 When you are finished exercising remove the key from the console See step 7 on page 15 HOW TO OPERATE THE PERSONAL TELEVISION IMPORTANT Before operating the television you must connect a 75 ohm CATV cable to the 75 ohm terminal on the treadmill See page 9 for instruc tions Follow the steps below to operate the television 1 Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 12 Press the Power button to turn on the television When the key is inserted the television will auto matically turn on If you have turned off the televi sion turn it on by pressing the Power button 3 Press the Channel buttons to select the desired cable channel Note Complete this step only if you are using analog cable Otherwise change channels through an external source such as your cable box or your VCR When the television is turned on the screen will show the last cable channel that was selected To select a different channel press the Channel but tons The selected cable channel number will ap pear on the screen for a few seconds Note The television is equipped with a channel memorizing function that allows you to go directly from the cur rent channel to the next channel saved in mem ory Before channels can be selected in this way they must be saved in the television s memory See HOW TO USE THE INFORMATION MODE
9. the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is cen tered b If the walking belt slips when walked on first remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the hex key turn both rear roller bolts clockwise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is correctly tightened you should be able to lift each edge of the walking belt 3 to 4 inches off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Then plug in the power cord insert the key and walk on the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened PROBLEM The displays of the console do not function properly SOLUTION a Remove the key from the console and UNPLUG THE a POWER CORD Next remove the screws from the hood 1 8 bt de and carefully remove the hood Locate the Reed Switch 17 Ti an 17 and the Magnet 12 on the left side of the Pulley 11 a Turn the Pulley until the Magnet is aligned with the Reed Switch Make sure that the gap between the Magnet and the Reed Switch is about 1 8 If necessary move Top the Reed Switch slightly using a slotted screwdriver Re at View tach the hood and run the treadmill for a few minutes to check for a correct speed reading PROBLEM Television reception is poor SOLUTION a Check for the problems listed below and follow the applicable instructions e Ignition black spots or horizontal streaks that appear or a

Make sure that the latch knob is fully released so the pin is fully inserted into the hole in the left handgrip To protect the floor or carpet from damage place a mat under the treadmill Keep the treadmill out of direct sunlight Do not leave the treadmill in the stor age position in temperatures above 85 Fahrenheit HOW TO MOVE THE TREADMILL Before moving the treadmill convert the treadmill to the storage position as described above Make sure that the pin on the latch knob is fully inserted into the hole in the left handgrip 1 Hold the handgrips and place one foot against one of the wheels 2 Tilt the treadmill back until it rolls freely on the wheels Carefully move the treadmill to the desired location To re duce the risk of injury use extreme caution while moving the treadmill Do not attempt to move the treadmill over an uneven surface 3 Place one foot against a wheel and carefully lower the treadmill until the base is in the storage position HOW TO LOWER THE TREADMILL FOR USE 1 See drawing 2 above Hold the treadmill frame firmly with your left hand Pull the latch knob to the right Pivot the frame down until the pin on the latch knob is below the handgrip Then slowly release the latch knob 2 See drawing 1 above Hold the frame firmly with both hands and lower the frame to the floor To decrease the possibility of injury bend your legs and keep your back straight 22 TROUBLESHOOTING M

See step 7 on page 15 HOW TO USE A HEART RATE PROGRAM A CAUTION tr you have heart prob lems or if you are over 60 years of age and have been inactive do not use the heart rate programs If you are taking medication regu larly consult your physician to find whether the medication will affect your exercise heart rate Follow the steps below to use a heart rate program 1 Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 12 A Select a heart rate program To select a heart rate program press the Heart Rate Control Programs button repeatedly until P 11 P 12 P 13 or P 14 appears in the right display Heart Rate o Max If heart rate program 11 is selected a pulse symbol will scroll across the matrix in the left dis play If heart rate program 12 13 or 14 is se lected a profile of the target heart rate settings of the program will appear in the matrix in the left display Note During heart rate program 11 your heart rate will remain near a target heart rate setting that you select During heart rate programs 12 13 or 14 your heart rate will reach approximately 85 of your estimated maximum heart rate Note Your maximum heart rate is estimated by sub tracting your age from 220 For example if you are 30 years old your estimated maximum heart rate is 190 beats per minute 220 30 190 E Enter your age When a heart rate program is selec
13. abrasive cleaner Assembly requires a phillips screwdriver 3 and the included hex key j To avoid damaging plastic parts do not use power tools for assembly 1 With the help of a second person carefully raise the 1 Uprights 65 to a vertical position Console Assembly Have the second person hold the console assembly near the Uprights 65 as shown Look under the console as sembly and locate the Console Wire Harness 71 and the console TV cable Cut the plastic ties securing the Upright Wire Harness i 85 and the Upright TV Cable 100 to the Uprights 65 85 Console TV Cable Connect the Upright TV Cable to the console TV cable z2 65 100 Connect the Upright Wire Harness to the Console Wire Harness 71 Make sure to connect the connectors properly see the inset drawing The connectors should slide together easily and snap into place If the connectors do not slide together easily and snap into place turn one connector and try again IF THE CON NECTORS ARE NOT CONNECTED PROPERLY THE CONSOLE MAY BE DAMAGED WHEN THE POWER IS TURNED ON 2 Insert the slack in the Wire Harnesses 71 85 and the 2 console TV cable into the Uprights 65 Console Assembly Set the console assembly on the Uprights 65 While a second person holds the console assembly attach the console assembly with four 1 Console Bolts 133 and four Console Washers 69 as shown Firmly tighten the Console Bolts

15. button to change the unit of measurement if desired IMPORTANT If the letter d appears in the right display the demo mode is selected This mode is intended to be used only when a treadmill is displayed in a store When the demo mode is se lected the power cord can be plugged in the key can be removed from the console and the dis plays and indicators on the console will automati cally light in a preset sequence The buttons on the console will not function If a d appears in the right display when the information mode is selected press the Speed decrease button Press the Power button and adjust the brightness contrast color sharpness and or hue of the television When the Power button is pressed the brightness level indicator will appear on the television screen Press the Volume buttons to adjust the brightness setting if desired Next press the Channel buttons until the contrast color sharpness or hue level indicator appears Adjust the settings if desired by pressing the Volume buttons Press the Power button again and add or delete cable channels Note Complete this step only if you are using analog cable After all cable valid channels available in your area have been saved into the television s mem ory See step 5 on page 21 you can manually add channels or delete unwanted channels To add or delete a cable channel first press the Channel buttons until the desired channel numb
16. d setting for the second segment will then be shown in the flashing Current Segment column and the treadmill will automatically adjust to the second speed and incline settings that you pro grammed previously The program will continue until the speed setting for the last segment is shown in the Current Segment column and the last segment ends The walking belt will then slow to a stop If desired you can redefine the program while using it To change the speed or incline setting during the current segment simply press the Speed or Incline buttons When the current segment ends the new setting will be saved in memory To increase the length of the program first wait until the program ends Then press the Start button and program speed and incline settings for as many ad ditional segments as desired When you have added as many segments as desired press the Stop button twice To decrease the length of the program press the Stop button twice at any time before the program ends To stop the program at any time press the Stop button The time will begin to flash in the left dis play To restart the program press the Start but ton or the Speed increase button 4 Follow your progress with the displays See step 5 on pages 12 and 13 5 Measure your heart rate if desired See step 6 on page 13 6 Turn on the fan if desired See step 7 on page 13 When you are finished exercising remove the key from the console

18. ed the speed of the walking belt and the approximate numbers of calories and fat calories you have burned see FAT BURNING on page 25 37 i3 ia DISTANCE ad A a8 MPH Heart Rate o Max SPEED The right display will also show your heart rate when you use the handgrip pulse sensor In addi tion during heart rate programs the right display will show a heart rate bar that shows your heart rate as a percentage of your estimated maximum heart rate see step 2 on page 18 for an explana tion of your estimated maximum heart rate For example if four to six segments of the bar appear your heart rate is between 60 and 70 of your estimated maximum heart rate Heart Rate Bar Sc ad 1 DISTANCE Heart Rate Max 60 Ba e SPEED Note The console can display speed and dis tance in either miles or kilometers The letters MPH or Km H will appear in the right display to show which unit of measurement is selected To change the unit of measurement see HOW TO USE THE INFORMATION MODE on page 20 For simplicity all instructions in this section refer to miles To reset the displays press the Stop button re move the key and then reinsert the key Measure your heart rate if desired Before using the handgrip pulse sensor remove the sheets of clear plastic from the metal contacts In addition Contacts 13 make sure that your hands are clean Next hold the hand
19. ed or incline setting is too high or too low at any time during the program you can manually override the setting by pressing the Speed or Incline buttons Every few times a Speed button is pressed an additional indicator will appear or dis appear in the Current Segment column If any of the columns to the right of the Current Segment column have the same number of indicators as the Current Segment column an additional indicator may appear or disappear in those columns as well Note When the next segment of the pro gram begins the treadmill will automatically adjust to the speed and incline settings for the next segment To stop the program at any time press the Stop button The time will begin to flash in the left dis play To restart the program press the Start button or the Speed increase button The walking belt will begin to move at 1 mph When the next segment of the program begins the treadmill will automati cally adjust to the speed and incline settings for the next segment Follow your progress with the displays See step 5 on pages 12 and 13 Measure your heart rate if desired See step 6 on page 13 15 6 Turn on the fan if desired T See step 7 on page 13 When you are finished exercising remove the key from the console When the program ends make sure that the in cline of the treadmill is at the lowest setting Next remove the key from the console and put it in a secure place Note If the disp
20. eed setting for the first segment will be shown in the flashing Current Segment column of the matrix The in cline settings are not shown in the matrix The speed settings for the next seven segments will be shown in the columns at the right Current Segment Column When only three seconds remain in the first seg ment of the program both the Current Segment column and the column to the right will flash and a series of tones will sound If the speed and or in cline of the treadmill is about to change the left display and or the right display will flash to alert you When the first segment ends a speed set tings in the matrix will move one column to the eft The speed setting for the second segment will then be shown in the flashing Current Segment column and the treadmill will automatically adjust to the speed and incline settings for the second segment Note If all of the indicators in the Current Segment column are lit after the speed settings have moved to the left we speed settings may move downward so that only the highest indi cators appear in the matrix If some indicators in the Current Segment column are not lit when the speed settings move to the left again the speed settings will move back up The program will continue in this way until the speed setting for the last segment is shown in the Current Segment column and the last segment ends The walking belt will then slow to a stop If the spe
21. er appears on the screen Then press the Volume increase button to add the channel or the Volume decrease button to delete the channel Continue this process until you have added all desired channels and deleted all unwanted channels Press the Power button again and select a cable connection If you have connected a CATV cable one of the three Cable settings should be selected try all three Cable settings if necessary to find the opti mal setting Press the Volume increase button to select the Standard Cable setting the Channel decrease button to select the Cable IRC setting or the Channel increase button to select the Cable HRC setting Note The setting that you select will not appear on the screen Press the Power button again and save cable channels into the television s memory When the Power button is pressed the television will begin scanning all of the cable channels avail able in your area When no cable signal is de 21 tected on a channel the channel will be skipped When a cable signal is detected the channel will be saved into memory and the next channel will be selected This process will continue until the highest channel is reached Do not remove the key while the television is scanning channels Note If you are viewing channels through an ex ternal source such as a cable box or a VCR the television will only save the channel used by the external source When you are finished using the informati

28. lar sys tem your exercise must be aerobic Aerobic exercise is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time This increases the demand on the heart to pump blood to the muscles and on the lungs to oxygenate the blood For aerobic exercise adjust the speed or incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone WORKOUT GUIDELINES Each workout should include the following three parts A Warm up Start each workout with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise A proper warm up in creases your body temperature heart rate and circula tion in preparation for exercise Training Zone Exercise After warming up increase the intensity of your exercise until your pulse is in your training zone for 20 to 60 minutes During the first few weeks of your exercise program do not keep your pulse in your training zone for longer than 20 minutes Breathe regularly and deeply as you exercise never hold your breath A Cool down Finish each workout with 5 to 10 min utes of stretching to cool down This will increase the flexibility of your muscles and will help prevent post ex ercise problems EXERCISE FREQUENCY To maintain or improve your condition complete three workouts each week with at least one day of rest be tween workouts After a few months you may com plete up to five workouts each week if desired The key to success is to make exerc
