1. Insert the pin into the Latch Housing 82 and tighten the knob back onto the pin A YI Wu Pin Spring 4 See drawing 4c With the help of a second person hold the Console Base 101 near the Uprights 97 Look under the Console Base and locate the wires on the sides of the Console Base Make sure that the wires are not routed through the openings for the Trays 109 111 Drawing 4a shows the correct route for the wires drawing 4b shows an incorrect route See drawing 4c Locate the Wire Harness 74 and the pulse wire in the Uprights 97 Cut the plastic ties secur ing the Wire Harness and the pulse wire Connect the Wire Harness 74 and the pulse wire to the connectors on the sides of the Console Base 101 Make sure to connect the connectors properly see the inset drawings The connectors should slide to gether easily and snap into place If the connectors do not slide together easily and snap into place turn a con nector and try again to insert it IF THE CONNECTORS ARE NOT CONNECTED PROPERLY THE CONSOLE MAY BE DAMAGED WHEN THE POWER IS TURNED ON Insert the excess Wire Harness and pulse wire up into the Console Base 5 Set the Console Base 101 on the Uprights 97 Thread four Upright Bolts 76 with four Internal Star Washers 77 into the Uprights and the Console Base Be careful not to pinch the Wires not shown in the Uprights Tighten the two Upright Bolts indicated by the arrow
2. incline settings of the program Hold the handrails and begin walking Each pulse program is divided into 20 or 30 one minute segments One target heart rate is pro grammed for each segment Note The same tar get heart rate setting may be programmed for two or more consecutive segments The target heart rate setting for the first seg ment will be Current Segment shown in the flashing Current Segment column of the matrix The target heart rate settings for the next four segments will be shown in the columns to the right 15 When only three seconds remain in the first seg ment of the program both the Current Segment column and the column to the right will flash and a series of tones will sound In addition the speed setting and the incline setting will flash in the dis play to alert you When the first segment ends a farget heart rate settings will move one column to the left The target heart rate setting for the sec ond segment will then be shown in the flashing Current Segment column During each segment the console will compare your heart rate to the target heart rate If your heart rate is too far below or above the target heart rate the speed of the walking belt will auto matically increase or decrease to bring your heart rate closer to the target heart rate If the speed reaches the maximum speed setting of the pro gram see step 5 on this page and your heart rate is still too far below

6. intensity level can be found by using your heart rate as a guide The chart below shows recom mended heart rates for fat burning and aerobic exercise HEART RATE TRAINING ZONES AEROBIC MAX FAT BURN 145 140 130 125 115 145 138 130 125 118 110 103 125 120 115 110 105 95 90 Age 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 165 155 FAT BURN To find the proper heart rate for you first find your age near the bottom of the chart ages are rounded off to the nearest ten years Next find the three numbers above your age The three numbers define your train ing zone The lower two numbers are recommended heart rates for fat burning the higher number is the recommended heart rate for aerobic exercise Fat Burning To burn fat effectively you must exercise at a relatively low intensity level for a sustained period of time During the first few minutes of exercise your body uses easily accessible carbohydrate calories for en ergy Only after the first few minutes does your body begin to use stored a ca ories for energy If your goal 28 is to burn fat adjust the speed and incline of the tread mill until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone For maximum fat burning adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the middle number in your training zone Aerobic Exercise If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular sys tem your exercise must be aerobic Aerobic ex

9. may take a moment for the tread mill to reach the selected incline setting INCLINE P 4 Follow your progress with the display When the manual mode or the iFIT com mode is se lected the lower part of the display will show a track that represents 1 4 mile As you walk or run on the treadmill the indi cators around the track will appear in succession until the entire track appears The track will then disappear and the indicators will again begin to ap pear in succession The left side of the dis play will show the incline level of the treadmill the elapsed time the ap proximate number of grams of carbs you have burned and the distance that you have walked or run Note Each time the incline changes the dis play will show the incline setting for a few sec onds When a program is selected the display will show the time remaining in the program instead of the elapsed time INCLINE e g me 95 The right side of the display will show the speed of the walking belt the approximate number of calories you have burned and your pace in minutes per mile The display will also show your heart rate when you use the handgrip pulse sensor or the optional chest pulse sensor 7 31 Metric will appear in ic the display when speed and distance are shown in kilometres To change the unit of measurement first hold down the Stop button while inserting the key into the console An E for Engl

11. speed settings may move down wardso that only the highest indicators appear in the matrix The program will continue in this way until the speed setting for the last segment is shown in the Current Segment column and the last segment ends The walking belt will then slow to a stop If the speed or incline setting for the current segment is too high or too low you can manually override the setting by pressing the Speed or Incline buttons Every few times a Speed button is pressed an additional indicator will appear or dis appear in the Current Segment column if any of the columns to the right of the Current Segment column have the same number of lit indicators as the Current Segment column an additional indica tor may appear or disappear in those columns as well Important When the next segment of the program begins the treadmill will automatically adjust to the speed and incline settings for the next segment To stop the program at any time press the Stop button The time will begin to flash in the display To restart the program press the Start button or the Speed button The walking belt will begin to move at 1 mph When the next segment of the pro gram begins the treadmill will automatically adjust to the speed and incline settings for the next seg ment E Follow your progress with the display See step 5 on page 11 E Measure your heart rate if desired See step 6 on page 12 3 Turn on the fan if desired See s
12. the key and slide the clip onto the waistband of your clothes 7 When the on screen countdown ends the program will begin and the walking belt will begin to move Hold the handrails step onto the walking belt and begin walking During the program an electronic chirping sound will alert you when the speed and or incline of the treadmill is about to change CAUTION Always listen for the chirp and be prepared for speed and or incline changes If the speed or incline settings are too high or too low you can manually override the settings at any time by pressing the Speed or Incline buttons on the console However when the next chirp is heard the speed and or incline will change to the next settings of the program To stop the walking belt at any time press the Stop button on the console The time will begin to flash in the display To restart the program press the Start button or the Speed button After a mo ment the walking belt will begin to move at 1 0 mph When the next chirp is heard the speed and or incline will change to the next settings of the program When the program is completed the walking belt will stop Note To use another program press the Stop button and go to step 5 Note If the speed and or incline of the treadmill does not change when a chirp is heard make sure that the letters iFIT appear in the display and that the time is not flashing In addition make sure tha
13. turn off the fan press the button a third time Note A few minutes after the walking belt is stopped the fan will automatically turn off When you are finished exercising remove the key Step onto the foot rails press the Stop button and adjust the incline of the treadmill to the lowest setting The incline must be at the lowest setting when the treadmill is folded to the storage posi tion or the treadmill will be damaged Next re move the key from the console and put it in a se cure place Note If the display remains lit after the key is removed the console is in the demo mode See page 23 and turn off the demo mode When you are finished using the treadmill switch the reset off circuit breaker to the off position and unplug the power cord HOW TO USE A PRESET PROGRAM 1 Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 11 A Select one of the preset programs To select one of the six preset programs TIME press the Program Select but ton repeat edly As each preset program is selected the maximum speed setting of the program and the maximum incline setting of the program will flash in the dis play for a few seconds The display will also show how long the program will last The matrix in the lower part of the display will show the first seven speed settings of the program INCLINE 5 nD rere tty SPEED 81 seri 0505 0 BO 8 6 cores Press the Start button or the Sp
14. walking belt To start the walking belt press the Start button the Speed button or one of the ten Quick Speed buttons If the Start button or the Speed button is pressed the walking belt will begin to move at 1 11 mph As you exercise change the speed of the walking belt as desired by pressing the Speed and buttons Each time a button is pressed the speed setting will change by 0 1 mph if a but ton is held down the speed setting will change in increments of 0 5 mph Note After the buttons are pressed it may take a moment for the walking belt to reach the selected speed setting Fx 5 325 If one of the Quick Speed buttons is pressed the walking belt will gradually increase in speed until it reaches the selected speed setting To stop the walking belt press the Stop button The time will begin to flash in the display To restart the walking belt press the Start button the Speed button or one of the Quick Speed buttons Note The first time the treadmill is used observe the alignment of the walking belt and align the walking belt if necessary see page 27 Change the incline of the treadmill as desired To change the incline of the treadmill press the Incline increase and de crease buttons Each TIME 385 time a button is pressed the incline will change by 0 5 To change the incline quickly press one of the Quick Incline buttons Note After the buttons are pressed it

TION a Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that meets all of the specifications described on page 9 b If the walking belt is overtightened treadmill perfor mance may decrease and the walking belt may be come damaged Remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the allen wrench turn both rear roller bolts counterclockwise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is properly tightened you should be able to lift each edge of the walking belt 2 to 3 inches off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walk ing belt centered Then plug in the power cord insert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Rear Roller Bolts Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened c If the walking belt still slows when walked on please see the front cover of this manual PROBLEM The walking belt is off center or slips when walked on SOLUTION a If the walking belt is off center first remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD If the walking belt has shifted to the left use the allen wrench to turn the left rear roller bolt clockwise 1 2 of a turn if the walking belt has shifted to the right turn the left bolt counterclockwise 1 2 of a turn Be careful not to overtighten the walking belt Then plug in the power cord insert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is centered b If the walking belt slips when walked on first re move the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using th

21. ched to one of the parts to be assembled To avoid damaging plastic parts do not use power tools for assembly O amo Internal Star 1 Tek Screw 80 Washer 77 4 Upright Bolt 76 4 1 Make sure that the power cord is unplugged With the help of a second person carefully raise the Uprights 97 to the position shown Insert one of the Extension Legs 92 into the base of the Uprights Note It may be helpful to tip the Uprights forward as you insert the Extension Leg Make sure that the Caution Decal 91 is in the indicated location Insert the other Extension Leg not shown in the same Way 2 With the help of a second person carefully tip the Uprights 97 down as shown Note It may be helpful to place one foot on one of the Extension Legs 92 as you tip the Uprights Make sure that the Extension Legs remain in the Uprights Attach the Extension Legs 92 with four 1 Tek Screws 80 and two Base Pads 99 as shown Tighten the Tek Screws without the Base Pads first Note The indi cated center holes are not used Attach the other two Base Pads 99 to the base of the Uprights 97 in the locations shown with two 1 Tek Screws 80 With the help of a second person raise the Uprights 97 to the vertical position 3 Remove the knob from the pin Make sure that the collar and the spring are on the pin Note If there are two col lars place one on each side of the spring

23. e allen wrench turn both rear roller bolts clockwise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is cor rectly tightened you should be able to lift each edge of the walking belt 2 to 3 inches off the walking plat form Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Then plug in the power cord insert the key and care fully walk on the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened 27 SUGGESTED STRETCHES The correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right Move slowly as you stretch never bounce 1 Toe Touch Stretch Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible Hold for 15 counts then relax Repeat 3 times Stretches Hamstrings back of knees and back 2 Hamstring Stretch Sit with one leg extended Bring the sole of the opposite foot toward you and rest it against the inner thigh of your extended leg Reach toward your toes as far as possible Hold for 15 counts then relax Repeat 3 times for each leg Stretches Hamstrings lower back and groin 3 Calf Achilles Stretch With one leg in front of the other reach forward and place your hands against a wall Keep your back leg straight and your back foot flat on the floor Bend your front leg lean forward and move your hips toward the wall Hold for 15 counts then relax Repeat 3 times for each leg To

26. ercise is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time This increases the demand on the heart to pump blood to the muscles and on the lungs to oxygenate the blood For aerobic exercise adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone WORKOUT GUIDELINES Each workout should include the following three parts A Warm up Start each workout with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise A proper warm up in creases your body temperature heart rate and circula tion in preparation for exercise Training Zone Exercise After warming up increase the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is in your training zone for 20 to 60 minutes During the first few weeks of your exercise program do not keep your heart rate in your training zone for longer than 20 minutes Breathe regularly and deeply as you exer cise never hold your breath A Cool down Finish each workout with 5 to 10 min utes of stretching to cool down This will increase the flexibility of your muscles and will help prevent post exercise problems EXERCISE FREQUENCY To maintain or improve your condition complete three workouts each week with at least one day of rest be tween workouts After a few months you may com plete up to five workouts each week if desired The key to success is to make exercise a regular and enjoyable part of your everyday

45. the current target heart rate the incline of the treadmill will also increase to bring your heart rate closer to the target heart rate The program will continue in this way until the tar get heart rate setting for the last segment is shown in the Current Segment column and the last segment ends The walking belt will then slow to a stop If the speed or incline setting is too high or too low at any time during the program you can adjust the setting with the Speed or Incline buttons However each time the console compares your heart rate to the target heart rate the speed and or incline of the treadmill may automatically change to bring your heart rate closer to the target heart rate If your pulse is not detected during the program the letters PLS will flash in the display and the speed and incline of the treadmill may automati cally decrease If this occurs see the instructions included with the optional chest pulse sensor To stop the program at any time press the Stop button The time will begin to flash in the display To restart the program press the Start button or the Speed button The walking belt will begin to move at 1 mph When the console compares your heart rate to the current target heart rate the speed and or incline of the treadmill may automati cally change Follow your progress with the display See step 5 on page 11 E Turn on the fan if desired See step 7 on page 12 When you are finished e
