For Windows 95 and Windows 98 The Disaster Recovery process for Windows 95 and Windows 98 takes placein DOS A series of screens will appear in DOS and prompt you to insert the media from your Disaster Recovery Set What is DOS DOSis a simple operating system that resides on your Windows 95 98 Startup Disk To recover your data You should first decide if another recovery method is possible For example if the problem appears to be associated with the Windows operating system such as acorrupt registry try to recover by following Recovering Y our Data 10 5 the steps outlined in your Microsoft Windows User s Manual before attempting the following procedures If you have determined that a hard drive failure has occurred proceed to Step 2 Replace any damaged hard drives with comparable drives In order to recover all of your information HP Disaster Recovery must have at least as much hard disk space as existed before the drive failure Insert the Windows Startup Disk diskette 1 of the DR Set into the 3 5 floppy drive from which your computer boots and restart your computer A DOS screen appears If aWindows Startup Diskette 2 was created not all systems require the creation of this diskette insert Diskette 2 into the 3 5 floppy drive from which your computer will boot At the prompt type A README then press Enter The README TXT appears After reading the text press Alt H
2. m Point to Tools amp Information m Point to Utilities m Click Uninstall 2 Select the CD Writer Plus drive s program s that you wish to remove 3 Click the Finish button The software is removed including all related entries in your system registry Moving CD W riter Plus to Another Computer 1 13 Moving CD Writer Plus to Another Computer A CAUTION The CD W riter Plus contains sensitive high precision optical equipment Dropping or shaking the CD W riter Plus may cause damage to these sensitive components Please be careful when handling your drive You can disconnect the CD Writer Plus drive and move it to another computer as long as the other computer meets the Minimum System Requirements on page A 1 The CD Writer Plus drive can be used by only one computer at a time Do not try to use the CD Writer Plus drive on more than one machine by attaching it to a switch box To disconnect the CD Writer Plus drive In Windows NT go to step 2 In Windows 95 or Windows 98 click on the Connect or Disconnect external drive icon on the desktop i et Select Shuttle EPAT External ATAPI Adapter then click Disconnect Unplug the CD Writer Plus s power supply from the outlet or power strip The power plug and outlet may look different in your country a SI Zu D NOTE Thereis no power switch on the CD W riter Plus drive or power supply You may safely unplug the power supply without damage to

Control Panel Simple Trax Index icon E Simple Trax Index Se Network Neighborhood gf Recycle Bin My Briefcase If the CD you placed in your CD Writer Plus has not been used with HP Simple Trax before the program prompts you to type a name to identify the CD This nameis used in the HP Simple Trax Index for identification Be sure to write the same name on the CD label with a felt tip pen 5 HP Simple Trax will now copy the selected file s and folder s to the CD in your CD Writer Plus and place information about the files into the Simple Trax Index Automatically Copying Files to CD You can have Simple Trax automatically copy files to CD for you You specify how often once a day once a week whatever schedule you choose you can also specify the types of files to copy For example you could set up a schedule for Simple Trax to copy all your spreadsheet files each Monday at noon Then just leave your computer on with aCD in the drive and Simple Trax will take it from there XEL S GWIS dH YUM yse4 sajl4 Puly 6 48 deyD Automatically Copying Files to CD Preparing a CD for Automatic Operations For a Simple Trax session to run unattended you will need to havea CD that is formatted and has a name for use in HP Simple Trax To prepare the CD you will m Format it m Use Simple Trax to copy at least one file so you can give the CD a name for use in the Simple Trax program To prepare a CD for automatic

Import from the HP Simple Trax menu The Import Wizard appears Follow the instructions on the screen The import process can take anywhere from a couple of minutes to over an hour The duration of the operation depends mainly on the type of computer you have and the number of files on the CD Event Logs 9 19 Event Logs An event log is automatically created every time a Simple Trax operation runs such as aretrieve import or scheduled copy Look at the event log for additional information if an error message appears during an operation To view an Event Log Point to Start then to Programs HP CD Writer Plus then to HP Simple Trax and click HP Simple Trax Control Panel The Control Panel Screen appears Click on the Event Log tab towards the top of the screen Highlight the event log you want to see and click on View To delete an event log Highlight the event log you want to delete and click Delete NOTE When you delete an event log it cannot be restored Changing the Index Display You can view the index by folder or by CD The initial setting is to display the contents of aCD by folders To change the way the index is displayed Run Windows Explorer by clicking the Start button pointing to Programs and clicking Windows Explorer Click on the Simple Trax Index icon You may need to scroll down to see it From the View menu highlight HP Simple Trax View Options then click on either By

14. adaptec com m TheAdaptec Software Products Group can be found on several CD ROM CD R and CD publishing newsgroups and lists on the Internet For customer support information refer to Appendix B Customer Support Chapter 6 Making Music CDs A music CD is a compact disc CD containing digital audio tracks recorded in the Compact Disc Digital Audio CD DA format Music CDscan store up to 74 minutes of music and may contain up to 99 tracks each usually representing a separate piece of music Music CDs can be played back from a home or car CD player or from a CD ROM drive through speakers or headphones attached to the drive s output jack You can use Easy CD Creator to m Compile audio CDs of your favorite music m Make CDs from Wave wav files on your hard drive Starting Easy CD Creator 1 Start up your computer 2 Insert a blank CD R or CD RW disc in the CD Writer Plus After a few seconds a screen will appear which asks you to Please select the type of CD you wish to create NOTE If no screen appears after about 15 seconds you may have inserted a disc that is already formatted Remove the disc and insert a blank disc Or the Auto insert notification option may be disabled this applies to W indows 95 only To check this click Start move the mouse pointer over Settings and click Control Panel In Control Panel double click System and select the Device Manager tab Double click the icon for t
15. d2 b uip uuop T saqydeyD 1 8 If You Have Problems If You Have Problems After connecting your CD Writer Plus drive and turning on your computer the computer should start boot as it normally does If it does not check the following items Is the computer power plugged in Is each device plugged in and turned on Are all cables properly plugged into the back of your computer and the CD Writer Plus drive Try turning off your computer Wait at least 20 seconds before turning it back on Installing the Software for Windows 95 98 or Windows NT 4 0 After the CD Writer Plus drive is attached to your computer you are ready to install the application software If your computer DOES have a CD ROM drive 1 Insert the CD labeled Software Disc 1 into your CD ROM drive not the CD Writer Plus drive The main menu appears O CORE Erpanding Possibilities Click the Install CD Writer Plus icon oO If You Have Problems If the main menu does not appear automatically click on the Start button on the task bar select Run typeD SETUP where D is your CD drive s letter then click on OK 2 Click on theInstall CD Writer Plus icon Follow the instructions on the screen If your computer DOES NOT have a CD ROM drive 1 To get your CD Writer Plus started right away insert the diskette labeled Driver Installation into your floppy drive 2 Click the Start button on the task bar select Run 3
