1. 13 OPERATION E As the angle of the pole pruner boom to ground increases the difficulty of making the first cut from the underside of limb increases Failure to follow this procedure can result in the blade binding and becoming pinched or trapped in the limb If this should happen 1 Stop the unit and remove the battery pack 2 Remove the blade retaining screw with the allen wrench supplied then remove the unit from the trapped blade 3 Lift the limb while holding the blade This should release the pinch and free the blade 4 lf the blade or pole pruner is still trapped call a professional for assistance The long reach of the unit allows the operator to prune branches or limbs that are normally out of reach Long branches should be removed in several stages Cutting lower branches first will allow the top branches more room to fall Work slowly keeping both hands on the pole pruner with a firm grip Maintain secure footing and bal ance Keep the tree between you and the blade while limbing Cut from the side of the tree opposite the branch you are cutting Do not cut from a ladder this is extremely danger ous Leave this operation for professionals Do not use for felling or bucking When pruning trees itis important notto make the flush cut next to the main limb or trunk until you have cut off the limb further out to reduce the weight This prevents stripping the bark from the main member Und

5. pruner 2 Upon release of the trigger the trigger lock button will be automatically reset to the lock position PREPARATION FOR CUTTING PROPER GRIP ON HANDLES See Figure 12 Refer to Important Safety Instructions earlier in this manual for appropriate safety equipment E Wear non slip gloves for maximum grip and protection E Maintain a proper grip on the unit when in operation Use your right hand to firmly grip the rear handle while your left hand has a firm grip on the front handle E Never stand directly under the limb you are cutting BASIC CUTTING PROCEDURE See Figures 13 and 14 Accelerate the unit to full speed just before entering the cut by squeezing the trigger E Do not use a back and forth sawing type motion for cutting The following steps should be followed to prevent damage to tree or shrub bark See Figure 13 1 The first cut should be a shallow cut 1 4 of the limb diameter on underside of limb or trunk 2 Thesecond cut should be made from the top side of the limb outboard from first cut 3 Make the final cut close to the trunk and from the top of the branch ARST CUT 1 4 DIAMETER 12 OPERATION A WARNING To prevent possible serious injury to yourself or to others read understand and follow all instructions in this operator s manual E Keep the unit at full speed the entire time you are cutting E For second and final cuts from top of limb or branch hol

FOR RECHARGING HOT BATTERIES When using your pole pruner continuously the batteries in your battery pack will become hot You should let a hot battery pack cool down for approximately 30 minutes before attempting to recharge NOTE This situation only occurs when continuous use of your pole pruner causes the batteries to become hot It does not occur under normal circumstances Refer to Charging Your Pole Pruner earlier in this manual for normal recharging of batteries If the charger charging assembly does not charge your battery pack under normal circumstances return both the battery pack and charger charging assembly to your nearest Homelite Authorized Service Center for electrical check OPERATION A CAUTION When placing battery pack in your pole pruner be sure raised rib on battery pack aligns with groove in pole pruner s battery port and latches snap in place properly Improper assembly of battery pack can cause damage to internal components STARTING AND STOPPING THE POLE PRUNER See Figure 11 STARTING THE POLE PRUNER 1 Hold the pole pruner as shown and ensure that you are well away from anything that may contact the blade See Figure 12 2 Press and hold the trigger lock button This makes the trigger operational 3 Press and hold the trigger release the trigger lock button and continue to squeeze the trigger for continued operation STOPPING THE POLE PRUNER 1 Release the trigger to stop the pole

10. ck and depress both sides to release the battery pack from the pole pruner ADJUSTMENTS ADJUSTING THE SHAFT See Figures 7 8 and 9 1 Rotate the lower portion of the shaft adjustment collar to the Unlock position See Figure 7 2 Lower shaft should now be free to slide down from inside the upper shaft Make sure the shaft is pulled out to the desired position See Figure 8 3 Rotate shaft adjustment collar to the Lock position and tighten securely See Figure 9 10 OPERATION BATTERY PACK AND CHARGER LED FUNCTION OF CHARGER See Figure 10 LED WILL BE ONTO INDICATE STATUS OF CHARGER AND BATTERY PACK E Red LED on Fast charging mode E Green LED on Fully charged battery pack E Yellow and Green LEDs on Control charge or defective battery pack E No LED on Defective charge or battery pack CHARGING YOUR POLE PRUNER The battery pack for your pole pruner has been shipped in alow charge condition to prevent possible problems Therefore you should charge it prior to use NOTE Batteries will not reach full charge the first time they are charged Allow several cycles pruning fol lowed by recharging for them to fully charge TO CHARGE E Charge battery pack only with the charger provided E Make sure power supply is normal household voltage 120 volts 60 Hz AC only Connect charger to power supply Place battery pack in charger See Figure 10 Align raised rib on battery pack w
11. d the front cutting guide against the limb being cut This will help steady the limb and make it easier to cut See Figure 14 E Allow the blade to cut for you exert only light downward pressure If you force the cut damage to the blade or unit can result E Release the trigger as soon as the cut is completed allowing the unit to stop WORK AREA PRECAUTIONS E Cut only wood or materials made from wood no sheet metal no plastics no masonry no non wood building materials Never allow children to operate your pole pruner Allow no person to use this pole pruner who has not read this Operator s Manual and received adequate instructions for the safe and proper use of this pole pruner E Keep everyone helpers bystanders children and animals a safe distance of at least 50 ft 15 m from the cutting area Always cut with both feet on solid ground to prevent being pulled off balance E Cut only when visibility and light are adequate for you to see clearly LIMBING AND PRUNING See Figures 15 and 16 This unit is designed for trimming small branches and limbs up to 4 in 10 25cm in diameter E Plan the cut carefully Be aware of the direction in which the branch will fall E Branches may fall in unexpected directions Do not stand directly under the branch being cut E The most typical cutting application is to position the unit at an angle of 60 or less depending on the specific situation See Figure 15
12. emove the battery pack from the pole pruner could result in accidental starting which could possibly cause serious personal injury INSTALLING THE BLADE See Figures 4 and 5 1 Remove the battery pack from the pole pruner 2 Remove the blade wrench from the storage area See Figure 4 3 Place the blade wrench in access hole and loosen the blade retaining screw See Figure 5 4 Install blade into the mounting clamp NOTE Make sure the mounting clamp pin is positioned correctly in the positioning pin hole of the blade If not positioned correctly the mounting clamp will not hold the blade securely 5 Tighten the blade retaining screw securely with blade wrench 6 Return blade wrench to storage area REMOVING THE BLADE See Figures 4 and 5 1 Remove the battery pack from the pole pruner 2 Remove the blade wrench from the storage area See Figure 4 3 Place the blade wrench in access hole and remove the blade retaining screw See Figure 5 4 Remove the blade from the unit making sure the blade clears the mounting clamp pin See Figure 5 TO INSTALL BATTERY PACK See Figure 6 1 Place the battery pack in your pole pruner Align raised rib on battery pack with groove in pole pruner s battery port 2 Make sure the latches on each side of the battery pack snap in place and that battery pack is secured in pole pruner before beginning operation TO REMOVE BATTERY PACK See Figure 6 Locate latches on side of battery pa

16. ith groove in charger Press down on battery pack to be sure contacts on battery pack engage properly with contacts in charger When properly connected red light will turn on Normally the yellow and green lights on the charger will come on This indicates charger is in control charge mode and should switch to fast charge mode within 5 minutes When charger is in fast charge mode the red light will come on If after a period of 15 minutes the yellow and green lights remain on remove the battery pack wait 1 minute and reinsert battery pack in charger If the yellow and green lights continue to remain on an additional 15 min utes the battery pack is damaged and will not accept charge When your battery pack becomes fully charged the red light will turn off and the green light will turn on After normal usage 1 hour of charge time is re quired to be fully charged A minimum charge time of 1 to 1 1 2 hours is required to recharge a com pletely discharged tool 11 RED LIGHT ON INDICATES FAST CHARGING MODE YELLOW AND GREEN LIGHTS ON INDICATES CONTROL CHARGE OR POSSIBLE FAULTY BATTERY GREEN LIGHT ON INDICATES FULLY CHARGED Fig 10 E The battery pack will become slightly warm to the touch while charging This is normal and does not indicate a problem E DO NOT place charger in an area of extreme heat or cold It will work best at temperatures above 50 F and below 100 F IMPORTANT INFORMATION
