1. Store idle tools out of reach of children and other untrained persons Tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users Maintain tools with care Keep cutting tools sharp and clean Properly maintained tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the tools operation If damaged have the tool serviced before using Many acci dents are caused by poorly maintained tools Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer for your model Accessories that may be suitable for one tool may become hazardous when used on another tool 6 Service Tool service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel Service or maintenance per formed by unqualified personnel could result in a risk of injury 3 Specific safety rules and symbols When servicing a tool use only identical replace ment parts Follow instructions in the Maintenance section of this manual Use of unauthorized parts or failure to follow Maintenance Instructions may create a risk of electric shock or injury 3 1 Basic information concerning safety In addition to the information relevant to safety given in each of the sections of these operating instructions the following points must be strictly observed at all times WARNING Read all safety precautions and instructions Failure to observe t

When working always guide the tool away from the body o Lift the tool away from the workpiece only once the blade has come to a standstill e Do not lay the tool down before the blade has come to astandstill CAUTION e The saw blade becomes hot when used for long periods e There is arisk of burning if the blade is touched e Wear protective gloves 6 1 Switching on off 1 Plug the supply cord into the electric socket 2 Press the transport lock and then press the control switch 6 2 Stroke rate 6 2 1 Adjusting the stroke rate The recommended stroke rate can be selected by turn ing the stroke rate regulator When the control switch is pressed the tool will then run up to the pre selected speed The electronic speed control system maintains constant stroke rate even under load The recommended stroke rate settings and information concerning the correct choice of saw blade can be found in the product infor mation and in the corresponding table of applications 6 2 2 Recommended stroke rates 1 low stroke rate 6 high stroke rate Recommended stroke rate 5 6 Material to be cut Wood Wood with embedded nails 5 Interior finishing drywall 3 Plastic 3 Steel 2 Non ferrous metals 2 Aluminum 2 Stainless steel 1 wj A AIO The above settings are general guidelines intended to provide optimum cutting performance These also apply when the pipe cutting adapter accessory is used The optimu
3. if necessary The tool is not water or moisture proof Liquids running out may cause a short circuit in the tool resulting in an electric shock being received When cutting pipes hold the tool so that it is higher than the pipe being cut 3 3 General safety precautions IN e To ensure efficient and safe operation the contact shoe of the tool must be pressed against the work piece EI e Keep the tool especially its grip surfaces clean and free from oil and grease e Always hold the tool securely with both hands on the grips provided E Make sure to grip the tool and posi tion your hands and fingers so they will not contact or slip into the area of the blade clamp or saw blade e Switch on the tool only after it has been brought into position where the cut is to be made e Do not start the tool with the blade contacting the work surface e When cutting always guide the tool away from the body e Switch the tool off before transporting it e Always allow the tool to come to a complete stop before removing it from the workpiece e Never place your hands in front of or on the saw blade e Check the tool for possible damage Protective devices and any parts that may have suffered slight damage should be checked for correct operation and func tionality before further use of the electric tool Safety devices or other parts that are found to be damaged must be replaced or repaired properly by an autho rized repair worksh
4. it has engaged 8 Open the screw clamp to the maximum position 9 Place the adapter chain around the pipe locking the chain to the fitting NOTE The handle should be at a 45 angle 5 5 Fitting the side handle accessory 1 Unplug the supply cord from the electric socket 2 Remove the saw blade see 5 2 3 Place the adaptor around the front grip section from above and close the adaptor 4 Slide the side handle onto the adaptor from the front 5 Secure the side handle by turning the screw knob on the handle 5 6 Positioning the side handle accessory 1 Unplug the supply cord from the electric socket 2 Slacken the screw knob on the side handle 3 Bring the side handle into the desired position 4 Secure the side handle by turning the screw knob on the handle CG No 6 Operation CAUTION e The cutting edges of the saw blade are sharp e The cutting edges may present a risk of injury e Wear protective gloves e The sawing operation swirls up dust and wood chips into the air e The dust and wood chips may be harm ful to the eyes and respiratory system e Wear protective goggles and breath ing protection e Operation of the tool creates noise e Excessive noise may damage the hear ing e Wear ear protection NOTE e To ensure good cutting performance and ease the load on the tool use only saw blades that are in good con dition e Do not overload the tool WARNING e
5. moving parts Loose clothes jewelry or long hair can be caught in mov ing parts Avoid accidental starting Be sure switch is off before plugging in Carrying tools with your finger on the switch or plugging in tools that have the switch on invites accidents Remove adjusting keys or wrenches before turning the tool on A wrench or a key that is left attached to a rotating part of the tool may result in personal injury Do not overreach Keep proper footing and bal ance at all times Proper footing and balance enables better control of the tool in unexpected situ ations Use safety equipment Always wear eye protec tion Dust mask non skid safety shoes hard hat or hearing protection must be used for appropriate conditions 5 Tool Use and Care Use clamps or other practical way to secure and support the workpiece to a stable platform Hold ing the work by hand or against your body is unsta ble and may lead to loss of control Do not force tool Use the correct tool for your application The correct tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it is designed Do not use tool if the switch does not turn it on or off Any tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments changing accessories or storing the tool Such preventive safety measur es reduce the risk of starting the tool accidentally
6. use only extension cords approved and correspondingly marked as suitable for outdoor use e Avoid using extension cords with multiple sockets and the simultaneous use of several electric tools con nected to one extension cord e Never operate the tool when it is dirty or wet Dust or dampness on the surface of the tool make it difficult to hold and under unfavorable conditions may lead to electric shocks Accordingly have the tool checked regularly at a Hilti service center if it is used frequently for cutting conductive materials e Hold tool by insulated gripping surfaces when per forming an operation where the cutting tool may con tact hidden wiring or its own cord Contact with a live wire will make exposed metal parts of the tool live and shock the operator N Ne A e The saw blade may become hot during use You should therefore wear protective gloves when changing saw blades e When using the pipe cutting adaptor accessory especially when cutting large diameter pipes apply only moderate pressure and select a suitable cutting speed in order to avoid overheating the tool e The cutting produced when sawing especially metal cuttings may be hot Wear suitable protective clothing 3 3 4 Dust e Wear respiratory protection when the work causes dust e Before beginning work find out the hazard class of the dust produced by the work Use only an industri al vacuum cleaner with an officially approved p

14. he following safety precautions and instruc tions may lead to electric shock fire and or serious injury 3 2 Take the necessary precautions to make the workplace safe AR e Ensure that the workplace is well ventilated e Keep the working area tidy Objects which could cause injury should be removed from the working area Untidi ness at the workplace may lead to accidents e Keep the area above and below the cutting line free of obstacles e Wear suitable working clothing Wear a hair net if you have long hair e Do not permit other persons to touch the electric tool or the extension cord e Avoid unusual body positions Work from a secure stance and stay in balance at all times e To avoid tripping and falling when working always lead the supply cord and extension cord away to the rear e Concealed electric cables or gas and water pipes pre sent a serious hazard if damaged while you are work ing Accordingly check the area in which you are work ing beforehand e g using a metal detector e Unknown base materials should be examined in order to avoid personal injury or the possibility of cutting into pipes or cables Use the right blade for the mate rial being cut e Do not cut unless there is proper clearance beyond the workpiece being cut The blade may cause the tool to kick back if it strikes a hidden object e Before cutting pipes always first ensure that the pipes contain no liquids Empty the pipes

16. irection and hold it in this position 4 Push the saw blade into the blade clamp 5 Release the locking sleeve and allow it to move back It should be heard to engage 6 Check that the clamp has engaged by pulling on the blade 5 2 Removing the saw blade amp 1 Unplug the supply cord from the electric socket 2 Turn the blade clamp locking sleeve in a counter clockwise direction and hold it in this position voltage 110 120 V 3 Pull the blade out of the clamp toward the front of the tool 4 Release the locking sleeve 5 3 Adjusting the contact shoe EJ The contact shoe can be adjusted to provide optimum use of the blade length and to improve access in corners 1 Unplug the supply cord from the electric socket 2 Remove the saw blade see 5 2 3 Press the contact shoe lockbutton and hold it in this position 4 Slide the contact shoe forward or back into the desired position 5 Release the lockbutton 6 Pull on the contact shoe to check that it has engaged 5 4 Using the pipe cutting adaptor accessory Unplug the supply cord from the electric socket Remove the saw blade see 5 2 Press the contact shoe lockbutton and hold it in this position 4 Pull the contact shoe away from the tool toward the front 5 Push the pipe cutting adaptor into the tool from the front until it is in the desired position 6 Release the lockbutton 7 Pull on the pipe cutting adaptor to check that
