1. 6 Set the Left Upright Spacer 76 the Base 83 Have a second person hold the Left Upright 74 near the Base Hold a Bolt Spacer 80 inside the lower end of the Left Upright Insert a 3 8 x 4 Bolt 6 with a 3 8 Star Washer 9 into the Left Upright and the Bolt Spacer Repeat this step with a second Bolt Spacer 80 3 8 x 4 Bolt 6 and 3 8 Star Washer 9 Then set the Left Upright in the Left Upright Spacer NS Partially tighten the 3 8 x 4 Bolts 6 do not fully tighten the Bolts yet Press a Base Endcap 77 into the Base 83 With the help of a second person tip the tread mill so that the Base 83 is flat on the floor 7 Attach the Tray 90 to the handrail assembly with two 8 x 1 2 Screws 1 Have a second person hold the handrail assem bly near the Right Upright 78 and the Left Upright 74 Connect the Upright Wire 38 to the console wire See the inset drawing The connectors should slide together easily and snap into place If they do not turn one connec tor and try again IF THE CONNECTORS ARE NOT CONNECTED PROPERLY THE CON SOLE MAY BE DAMAGED WHEN THE POWER IS TURNED ON Remove the wire tie from the Upright Wire 38 Set the handrail assembly on the Uprights 74 78 Be careful not to pinch the wires Attach the handrail assembly to the Uprights 74 78 with six 5 16 x 1 Bolts 7 and six 5 16 Star Washers 10 as shown See

EXERCISE INTENSITY Whether your goal is to burn fat or to strengthen your cardiovascular system exercising at the proper inten sity is the key to achieving results You can use your heart rate as a guide to find the proper intensity level The chart below shows recommended heart rates for fat burning and aerobic exercise 165 155 145 145 138 130 125 120 115 130 125 115 Y 118 110 103 Y 105 95 90 vw 20 30 40 60 70 80 To find the proper intensity level find your age at the bottom of the chart ages are rounded off to the near est ten years The three numbers listed above your age define your training zone The lowest number is the heart rate for fat burning the middle number is the heart rate for maximum fat burning and the highest number is the heart rate for aerobic exercise 28 Burning Fat To burn fat effectively you must exer cise at a low intensity level for a sustained period of time During the first few minutes of exercise your body uses carbohydrate calories for energy Only after the first few minutes of exercise does your body begin to use stored fat calories for energy If your goal is to burn fat adjust the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone For maximum fat burning exercise with your heart rate near the middle number in your training zone Aerobic Exercise If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular system you must

Do not leave the treadmill in the stor age position in temperatures above 85 F 30 C Latch Knob HOW TO MOVE THE TREADMILL Before moving the treadmill convert the treadmill to the stor age position as described above Make sure that the latch knob is locked in the storage position Hold a handrail and the frame and place one foot against one of the wheels N Tilt the treadmill back until it rolls freely on the wheels Carefully move the treadmill to the desired location Never move the treadmill without tipping it back To reduce the risk of injury use extreme caution while moving the treadmill Do not attempt to move the treadmill over an uneven surface 3 Place one foot against a wheel and carefully lower the treadmill until it is resting in the storage position 23 HOW TO LOWER THE TREADMILL FOR USE 1 Hold the upper end of the treadmill with your right hand Pull the latch knob to the left and hold it It may be neces sary to push the frame forward as you pull the knob to the left Pivot the frame downward and release the latch knob 2 Hold the metal frame firmly with both hands and lower it to the floor CAUTION Do not grip only the plastic foot rails or drop the frame to the floor Bend your legs and keep your back straight 24 TROUBLESHOOTING Most treadmill problems can be solved by following the steps below Find the symptom that
6. press a button the speed set ting will change by 0 1 mph if you hold down a but ton the speed setting will change in increments of 0 5 mph If you press one of the numbered 1 Step Speed buttons the walking belt will gradually in crease in speed until it reaches the selected speed setting To stop the walking belt press the Stop button To restart the walking belt press the Start button the Speed increase button or one of the numbered 1 Step Speed buttons 14 4 Change the incline of the treadmill as desired To change the incline of the treadmill press the Incline increase and decrease buttons or one of the numbered 1 Step Incline buttons Each time you press one of the buttons the incline will gradu ally change until it reaches the selected incline set ting Monitor your progress with the displays The matrix When you select the manual mode the matrix will display a 1 4 mile track As you exercise the indicators around the track will light in succession until the entire track is lit The track will then darken and the indicators will again begin to light in succession The Time Incline dis play The Time Incline display can show the elapsed time and the in cline of the treadmill Note When a weight loss workout or a classic workout is selected the display will show the time remaining in the workout instead of the elapsed time DIST TIME The Distance display The Distance display
7. the Play button on your iPod CD player or personal audio player Adjust the volume on your iPod CD player or personal audio player or press the Volume increase and decrease buttons on the con sole If you are using a personal CD player and the CD skips set the CD player on the floor or another flat sur face instead of on the console 20 HOW TO USE AN IFIT CARD 1 Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 14 Insert an iFit card and select a workout To use an iFit workout insert an iFit card into the iFit slot make sure that the iFit card is oriented so the metal contacts are face down and are inserted into the iFit slot Next select an iFit workout by pressing the iFit in crease or decrease button When an iFit workout is selected the display will show the name of the workout the maximum incline setting and the max imum speed setting of the workout and the work out time In addition a profile of the speed settings of the workout will appear in the display Each iFit workout is divided into several one minute segments One speed setting and one in 21 cline setting are programmed for each segment Note The same speed setting and or incline set ting may be programmed for two or more consecu tive segments Press the Start button to start the workout A moment after you press the button the treadmill will automatically adjust to the first speed and in cline sett
8. the walking belt has shifted to the right turn the bolt counterclockwise 1 2 of a turn Be careful not to overtighten the walking belt Then plug in the power cord insert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walk ing belt is centered b If the walking belt slips when walked on first re move the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the hex key turn both rear roller bolts clock wise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is cor rectly tightened you should be able to lift each edge of the walking belt 2 to 3 in 5 to 7 cm off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walk ing belt centered Then plug in the power cord in sert the key and carefully walk on the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened 27 EXERCISE GUIDELINES AWARNING Before beginning this or any exercise program consult your physi cian This is especially important for persons over the age of 35 or persons with pre exist ing health problems The pulse sensor is not a medical device Various factors may affect the accuracy of heart rate readings The pulse sensor is in tended only as an exercise aid in determining heart rate trends in general These guidelines will help you to plan your exercise program For detailed exercise information obtain a reputable book or consult your physician Remember proper nutrition and adequate rest are essential for successful results

13. a second person carefully tip the treadmill onto its left side Partially fold the Frame 56 so that the treadmill is more stable do not fully fold the Frame yet Remove and discard the two indicated bolts A and the shipping bracket B Cut the shipping tie securing the Upright Wire 38 to the Base 83 Locate a tie in the indi cated hole in the Base and use the tie to pull the Upright Wire out of the hole Attach a Base Pad 81 to the Base 83 in the location shown with a 8 x 1 Tek Screw 2 and a Base Pad Spacer 13 Then attach another Base Pad 81 with only a 8 x 1 Tek Screw 2 Remove the 3 8 Nut 8 the 3 8 x 2 Bolt 4 and the shipping bracket C from the Base 83 Attach a Wheel 84 with the Bolt and the Nut that you just removed Do not overtighten the Nut the Wheel must turn freely Discard the shipping bracket Identify the Right Upright 78 and the Right Upright Spacer 79 which are marked with stickers Insert the Upright Wire 38 through the Right Upright Spacer as shown Set the Right Upright Spacer on the Base 83 Be careful not to pinch the Upright Wire Have a second person hold the Right Upright 78 near the Base 83 See the inset drawing Tie the wire tie in the Right Upright securely around the end of the Upright Wire 38 With the help of a second person hold the Right Upright near the Base Then pull the other end of the wire tie until the Upright Wire is routed comp

17. can show the distance that you have walked or run 15 The Fitness Age Calculator display The Fitness Age Calculator display is used during the fitness test and can show your age the approximate number of calories you have burned your pulse your weight and your height CALS The Custom Workout Center display The Custom Workout Center display can show the speed of the walking belt and your maximum and minimum speeds As you exercise the workout intensity level bar will indicate the approximate intensity level of your ex ercise For example if six of the indicators in the bar are lit the bar shows that your intensity level is ideal for aerobic exercise Workout Intensity Level Bar TRAINING ZONES n jj jj a 11 COOL DOWN FAT BURN AEROBIC ENDURANCE PERFORMANCE To reset the displays press the Stop button re move the key and then reinsert the key 6 Measure your heart rate if desired You can measure your heart rate using either the handgrip pulse sensor or the optional chest pulse sensor See page 22 for more information on the optional chest pulse sensor Before using the handgrip pulse sensor remove the sheets of clear plastic from the metal contacts In addition make sure that your hands are clean To measure your heart rate stand on the foot rails and hold the metal contacts on the handrail avoid moving your hands When your pulse is de tected a heart shaped ind
18. ceiver 11 OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENT THE PRE LUBRICATED WALKING BELT Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with high performance lubricant IMPORTANT Never apply sil icone spray or other substances to the walking belt or the walking platform Such substances will deteriorate the walking belt and cause excessive wear HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD A DANGER Improper connection of the equipment grounding conductor can result in an increased risk of electric shock Check with a qualified electrician or service man if you are in doubt as to whether the product is properly grounded Do not modify the plug provided with the product if it will not fit the outlet have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician Your treadmill like any other type of sophisticated electronic equipment can be seriously damaged by sudden voltage changes in your home s power Voltage surges spikes and noise interference can result from weather conditions or from other appliances being turned on or off To decrease the possibility of your treadmill being damaged always use a surge suppressor with your treadmill see drawing 1 at the right To purchase a surge suppressor see your local GOLD S GYM dealer or call the telephone number on the front cover of this manual and order part number 146148 or see your local electronics store Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that is UL 1449 listed as a

20. displays remain lit see THE INFORMATION MODE on page 22 to turn off the demo mode Next stand on the foot rails of the treadmill Locate the clip attached to the key see the drawing at the right and slide the clip se curely onto the waistband of your clothes Then insert the key into the console After a moment the dis plays will light IMPOR TANT In an emergency situation the key can be pulled from the console causing the walking belt to slow to a stop Test the clip by carefully taking a few steps backward if the key is not pulled from the console adjust the position of the clip HOW TO USE THE MANUAL MODE 1 Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER at the left Select the manual mode Each time the key is inserted the manual mode will be selected If you have selected a workout press either of the workout buttons repeatedly until only zeros appear in the display Note Make sure that an iFit card is not inserted into the iFit slot Start the walking belt and adjust the speed To start the walking belt press the Start button the Speed increase button or one of the numbered 1 Step Speed buttons If you press the Start button or the Speed increase button the walking belt will begin to move at 1 mph As you exercise change the speed of the walking belt as desired by pressing the Speed in crease and decrease buttons next to the Start but ton Each time you
21. e 19 To use the sound system see page 20 To use an iFit card see page 21 IMPORTANT If there is a sheet of clear plastic on the console remove the plastic To prevent dam age to the walking platform wear clean athletic shoes while using the treadmill The first time the treadmill is used observe the alignment of the walking belt and center the walking belt if neces sary see page 27 Note The console can display speed and distance in either miles or kilometers To find which unit of mea surement is selected see THE INFORMATION MODE on page 22 For simplicity all instructions in this manual refer to miles 13 HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER IMPORTANT If the treadmill has been exposed to cold temperatures allow it to warm to room tem perature before turning on the power If you do not do this the console displays or other electrical components may become damaged Plug in the power cord see page 12 Next locate the reset off circuit breaker on the treadmill frame near the power cord Make sure that the circuit breaker is in the reset position Reset Position IMPORTANT The console features a display demo mode designed to be used if the treadmill is dis played in a store If the displays light as soon as you plug in the power cord and switch the reset off circuit breaker to the reset position the demo mode is turned on To turn off the demo mode hold down the Stop button for a few seconds If the
