1. Disconnect battery cables from main wire harness Lift batteries out of the base and place on the side of the unit 19 Alante GP201 Manual Revised 060208 COMFORT SETTINGS You may be spending a great deal of time on your Alante To provide you with the maximum seating comfort Golden Technologies Inc has designed this power chair to incorporate the following adjustments for operator comfort COMFORT SETTINGS 1 Seat height 4 Footrest height 2 Armrest angle 9 Footrest extending 3 Footrest angle 6 Joystick controller length A WARNING Make certain that the power to your Alante is turned off before making any adjustments to eliminate the risk of the joystick controller being accidentally bumped and activating the power chair SEAT HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT 1 Remove the seat 2 Remove the shroud 3 Disconnect the joystick controller 4 Use two wrenches to remove the nut washers and bolt that secures the seat post in place 5 Adjust the inner seat pedestal to the desired height 6 Insert the bolt through the matching holes in the seat post and the seat post pedestal T Install the washers removed in Step 4 8 Install and tighten the nut removed in Step 4 9 Connect the joystick controller 1 1 O Replace the shroud 1 Attach the seat The Alant seat post height can be adjusted by moving the location of the bolt and washers in the seat post as shown at left 20 Alante GP201 M

Arm 3 EA Tilda ae TT Joystick Controller Receiver x r e kia Figure 14 Figure 15 17 Alante GP201 Manual Revised 060208 ASSEMBLY Cont 3 Route the joystick controller cable to the inside of the armrest and secure into place with the Velcro straps as shown Figs 16 amp 17 Figure 16 18 Alante GP201 Manual Revised 060208 DISASSEMBLY A WARNING Make certain that the joystick controller power is turned off and that the chair is NOT in freewheel mode before attempting to perform disassembly SEAT REMOVAL 1 2 3 9 6 1 8 9 10 11 Remove the Velcro straps that secure the joystick controller cable Fig 16 Remove the joystick controller by loosening the adjustment knob under the joystick controller receiver Fig 17 Slide the joystick controller and extension arm forward and out of the receiver Carefully lay the joystick controller beside the power chair Fold the seat back down Remove the arms Lift and hold the seat rotation lever upwards to release the seat Fig 11 With the seat swivel lever held up grasp the seat on both sides and lift straight up You may swivel the seat side to side to make the seat easier to remove Carefully lift the shroud over the brake release levers and place on side of Alant Fig 7 Disconnect joystick controller connections and feed connections through the center hole in the shroud Unfasten Velcro straps on batteries

RUBBER AT CORNER FOOTREST MA ADJUSTMENT SCREWS Figure 21 22 Alante GP201 Manual Revised 060208 COMFORT SETTINGS Cont FOOTREST EXTENSION OPTION 1 Place the footrest extension onto the footrest as shown below 2 Install the footrest extension bolt 3 Install a lock washer and locknut on the bolt and tighten securely 4 Tighten the set screw FOOTREST EXTENSION BOLT Figure 22 Figure 23 JOYSTICK CONTROLLER BRACKET LENGTH 1 Loosen the knob at the underside of the joystick controller receiver 2 Loosen and unwrap the Velcro straps holding the controller cord in place 3 Slide the joystick controller extension arm forward or rearward to find a comfortable position 4 Tighten the knob at the underside of the joystick controller receiver to secure the joystick controller extension arm 9 Route the joystick cable to the inside of the armrest and secure in place with the Velcro straps 23 Alante GP201 Manual Revised 060208 OPERATION Your Alante M is simple to operate However for your safety and the safety of others Golden Technologies Inc recommends that you carefully read and understand the following operating instructions We also recommend that you practice operating your Alante in an area free of any obstacles Once you have gained confidence in your ability to control your power chair you will more easily be able to operate it in nor mal daily conditions A WORD OF C

AUTION Before turning on the power of your Alante take note of your environment and set your speed control accordingly see Speed Control Buttons Figure 25 For indoor driving we recommend that you select the lowest speed setting For outdoor driving we recommend that you select a speed setting at which you feel comfortable safe and in control of your power chair Familiarize yourself with the features of your Alante described below and follow the instructions to safely operate your power chair Joystick Controller Display The joystick controller display See Figure 25 is a multifunctional visual display This display provides three types of information 1 On Off status 2 Battery charge level 3 Fault diagnostics 1 On Off Status When you turn on the power to your Alante the LED array will light up see Figure 25 To turn the power on press the on off button see Fig 25 To turn the power off press the on off button see Fig 25 4 If the LED array is not lit the joystick controller and the power chair are not in operating mode 24 Alante GP201 Manual Revised 060208 OPERATION Cont 2 Battery Charge Level The joystick controller LED array is composed of eight 8 LED s Two 2 red Two 2 amber Four 4 green When all eight 8 LEDs are lit continuously there is a full charge on the batter ies AS you use your power chair and the batteries discharge LEDs in the array will begin to turn of

11. aster Wheel Figure 1 10 Alante GP201 Manual Revised 060208 EMI RFI The rapid development of electronics especially in the area of communications has saturated our environment with electromagnetic radio waves that are emitted by television transmitters cellular phones citizen s band radios CBs amateur radios HAM radios wireless computers links microwave transmitters paging transmitters etc These electromagnetic EM waves are invisible and increase in strength the closer one gets to the source of transmission When these energy waves act upon electrical devices and cause them to malfunction or to function in an erratic or uncontrolled manner they are referred to as Electromagnetic Interference EMI or Radio Frequency Interference RFI EMI RFI AND YOUR ALANTE All electrically powered vehicles including power chairs are susceptible to EMI RFI This interference could result in abnormal or unintended movement of your Golden Alante The FDA has determined that each make and model of power chair can resist EMI RFI to a certain level The higher the level of immunity the greater the degree of protection from EMI RFI measured in volts per meter V m The FDA has also determined that current technology is capable of providing 20 V m of immunity to EMI RFI which would provide useful protection against common sources of interference Based on that determination the FDA has written to the manufacturers of power

14. erheated electrical components to cool to their normal operating temperatures SEAT ROTATION The seat of your Alante can be swiveled to one of five preset positions Full forward 45 degrees to the right 45 degrees to the left 90 degrees to the right 90 degrees to the left A a s To swivel the seat Pull up on the seat rotation lever see Figure 28 to swivel the seat Release the lever The seat will lock in one of the five preset positions Continue this process until the seat is positioned as you want it ES Main Circuit Breaker Reset Button Figure 28 28 Alante GP201 Manual Revised 060208 OPERATION Cont A WARNING Do not drive your power chair with the seat in any position other than full forward locked position OPERATIONAL RANGE Depending on the use the terrain and the driving conditions the batteries of your Alante rwx will provide up to 20 miles of operation We recommend that you charge the batteries when necessary Battery charge should be treated similarly to fuel in a car CHARGING THE BATTERIES Your Alante s charging system is designed for your safety and for your convenience Follow the steps below to recharge the batteries Position your Alante close to a standard wall electrical outlet Turn off the power on the joystick controller Remove the charger from the trunk Insert the matching charger plug into the joystick controller s charging socket that is located a

21. ndant present THERMAL ROLLBACK Your Alante is equipped with a safety system A microprocessor monitors the operating temperatures of the joystick controller In the event of excessive heat occurring in the joystick controller the joystick controller will decrease the speed of your chair This is done to reduce the load on the electrical system and allow the components to dissipate heat The joystick controller will automatically set the chair s speed back to full normal when the operating temperature returns to normal levels 27 Alante GP201 Manual Revised 060208 OPERATION Cont THE MAIN CIRCUIT BREAKER The main circuit breaker is another safety feature incorporated into your Alante This device monitors the amount of current being drawn from the batteries when the chair is in use When the motors are heav ily strained and too high a current draw is being placed on the batteries the main circuit breaker will trip and bring your chair to a stop The main circuit breaker reset button is located on the top right of the shroud RESET BUTTON If the main circuit breaker trips please wait for approximately 1 minute and then push the reset button to reset the main circuit breaker Fig 28 NOTE Usually the thermal rollback feature is more sensitive than the main circuit breaker We recommend that you turn off the power to the chair and wait for five minutes when the chair suddenly loses speed or power Doing so will allow the ov

24. re minimal maintenance We recommend that you periodically check the following Tire Pressure Your Alante is equipped with flat free foam filled tires There is no need to check tire pressure Tire Tread Regularly visually inspect the tire tread If the remaining tread is less than 1 32 of an inch have your local Golden representative replace the worn tires Motor Brushes Have your local Golden representative inspect the motor brushes once a year Joystick Controller Protect the joystick controller from adverse weather conditions Moisture will damage the joystick controller and void your power chair s warranty Battery Terminals Regularly inspect the condition of the battery terminals Make certain that they are not corroded Also check to see that the terminals are securely tightened Cleaning Use only a water dampened soft cloth to clean the ABS shroud The shroud has a protective coat that is very easy to maintain NOTE Do not use free flowing water to clean your Alante Water and extreme temperatures are the main elements that can adversely affect your power chair and its performance Water Rain Sleet and Snow Water in any form will cause electronic malfunction or corrosion of the electrical components connections and the chair frame Temperature At extremely low temperatures the batteries of your power chair may freeze preventing your Alante from operating At extremely high temperatures your p
