Decal Mounts on the Gear Housing Assembly just above the cutting attachment Helps protect the operator by deflecting debris produced during the trimming operation This shield must be replaced with the steel shield for blade use THROTTLE TRIGGER Controls engine speed Spring loaded to return to idle when released During acceleration press trigger gradually for best operating technique BLADES Circular steel blades for grass weeds or brush cutting applications Harness metal shield and U handle required for blade operation METAL BLADE SHIELD Required when unit is equipped with blades Do not operate unit without shield SHOULDER HARNESS An adjustable shoulder strap that suspends the unit from the operator s shoulder Using the strap reduces operator fatigue and enhances safety CHOKE Adjusts Fuel Air ratio for starting or running engine The choke control is located at the top of the air filter case Move choke lever to Cold Start qd to close choke for cold starting Move choke lever to Run b position to open choke SPARK PLUG Provides spark to ignite fuel mixture TOP GUARD Protects operator s arm from the hot engine during normal operation SPARKARRESTOR CATALYTICMUFFLER MUFFLER The muffler or catalytic muffler controls exhaustnoise and emission The spark arrestor screen prevents hot glowing particles of carbon from leaving the muffler Keep exhaust area clear of flammable debris FUEL TAN

Make sure screen is positioned properly before tightening screws Grass TrRimmerR BRUSH CUTTER CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT Level 2 Tools required Screwdriver Tachometer ECHO P N 99051130017 Parts required None NOTE Every unit is run at the factory and the carburetor is set in compli ance with emission regulations In addition the carburetor is equipped with HI and LO needle adjustment limiters that prevent settings outside acceptable limits Before adjusting the carburetor clean or replace the air filter and spark arrester screen 2 Trimmer line must be extended to the cut off knife Start engine and run for several minutes to reach operating temperature 4 Stop engine Turn HI speed needle A CCW counter clockwise to stop Turn LO speed needle B midway between full CCW and CW clockwise stops Idle Speed Adjustment Start engine and turn idle speed adjustment screw C CW until the cutting attachment begins to turn then turn the screw CCW until attachment stops turning Turn screw C CCW an additional 1 4 turn 6 Accelerate to full throttle for 2 3 seconds to clear excess fuel from engine then return to idle Accelerate to full throttle to check for smooth transition from idle to full throttle If engine hesitates turn LO needle B CCW an additional 1 8 turn and repeat accelera tion Continue adjusting until smooth acceleration results 7 Check HI

7. toward you Place index finger between the two lines and wind line clockwise tightly and evenly 5 When approximately 15 20 cm 6 8 in of line remains place lines in spool notches F 6 Thread line ends through housing eyelets G and place spool in housing against spring 7 Align cover tabs with tab holes in housing and push cover on until tabs snap lock into place 8 Pullon both lines until they come free from notches in spool 9 Indexline out by pushing tap knob and trim line to cut off knife length OPERATOR S MANUAL 27 29 MECHO SHARPENING METAL BLADES Of the three styles of metal blades that are approved for use on the ECHO Brush Cutter only the 8 tooth blade can be sharpened as an operator maintenance item The clearing blade and 80 tooth blade require professional service Before sharpening CLOSELY inspect blade for cracks look at the bottom of each tooth and the center mounting hole closely missing teeth and bending If ANY of these problems are discovered replace the blade When sharpening a blade always remove the same amount of material from each tooth to maintain balance A blade that is not balanced will cause unsafe handling due to vibration and can result in blade failure Sharpening 8 tooth Blades Tool required Flatfile preferred Electric grinder if special care is used Round rat tail file for gullet radius IMPOR

L Trimmer Brush Cutter use The Shoulder Waist Harness suspends the trimmer from the operator s shoulder and reduces operator fatigue during nylon line trimming or cutting with a blade Operator safety is also enhanced by restricting trimmer movement and preventing blade or line contact with the operator s hands and feet during operation NOTE In case of Emergency the trimmer brushcutter can be released from the the harness by pulling up on the quick release collar IS TED PME FUEL Fuel Requirements Gasoline Use 89 Octane R M 2 mid grade or higher gasoline known to be good quality Gasoline may contain up to 15 MTBE methyl tertiary butyl ether Gasohol containing methyl wood alcohol is NOT approved Two Stroke Oil A two stroke engine oil meeting ISO L EGD ISO CD 13738 and J A S O FC Standards must be used Echo brand Premium 50 1 oil meets these standards Engine problems due to inadequate lubrication caused by failure to use an ISO L EGD and J A S O FC certified oil such as Echo Premium 50 1 Two stroke Oil will void the two stroke engine warranty Emission related parts only are covered for two years regardless of two stroke oil used per the statement listed in the Emission Defect Warranty Explanation IMPORTANT Echo Premium 2 Stroke Oil may be mixed at 50 1 ratio for application in all Echo engines sold in the past regardless of ratio specified in those manuals
