6. de air ventilation be fore running heater Provide at least three square feet of fresh outside air for each 100 000 Btu Hr of rat ing This heater requires a fresh air opening of at least 11 25 square feet Provide extra fresh air if more heaters are being used 100416 INSTALLATION AX WARNING Review and un derstand the warnings in the Safety Information section page 2 They are needed to safely op erate this heater Follow all local codes when using this heater Ay WARNING Test all gas pip ing and connections for leaks after installing or servicing Never use an open flame to check for a leak Apply a mixture of liquid soap and water to all joints Bubbles forming show a leak Correct all leaks at once 1 Provide propane supply system see Propane Supply page 4 2 Connect POL fitting on hose regulator assembly to propane tank s Turn POL fitting counterclockwise into threads on tank Tighten firmly using a wrench IMPORTANT Tighten regulator with black adjustment knob pointing down Pointing adjustment knob down pro tects regulator from weather damage 3 Connect hose to inlet connector Tighten firmly using a wrench IMPORTANT Extra hose or piping may be used if needed Install extra hose or piping between hose regulator assembly and propane tank You must use the regulator supplied with the heater Supply Valve Propane Tank Regulator Adjustment Knob pointing
7. e design specific parts Do not substitute or use generic parts Improper replacement parts could cause serious or fatal injuries Do not adjust regulator below 7 psig or above 20 psig 100416 OWNER S MANUAL PRODUCT UNPACKING IDENTIFICATION 1 Remove all packing items applied to Hot Air Outlet heater for shipment Keep plastic cover Front caps attached to inlet connector and hose regulator assembly for storage Remove all items from carton 3 Check all items for shipping damage If heater is damaged promptly inform dealer where you bought heater Handle Hose Regulator Assembly Figure 1 375 000 Btu Hr Models 100416 3 375 000 BTU HR A SERIES PROPANE CONSTRUCTION HEATER THEORY OF OPERATION The Fuel System The hose regulator assembly attaches to the propane gas sup ply The propane gas moves through the solenoid valve and out the nozzle The Air System The motor turns the fan The fan pushes air into and around the combustion chamber This air is heated and provides a stream of clean hot air Combustion Chamber Clean Heated Air Out Front The Ignition System The direct spark ignitor DSI sends voltage to the ignitor The ignitor ignites the fuel and air mixture The Safety Control System This sys tem causes the heater to shut down if the flame goes out The motor will continue to run but no heat is produced Ignitor Cool Air In Back

9. fied Petroleum Gas ANSI NFPA 56 and the Propane Instal lation Code CAN CGA B149 2 This in structs on the safe storage and handling of propane gases e Use only the electrical voltage and fre quency specified on model plate The electrical connections and grounding of the heater shall follow the National Electric Code ANSI NFPA 70 or the Canadian Electric Code Part 1 Hlectrical grounding instructions This appliance is equipped with a three prong grounding plug for your protection against shock hazard and should be plugged directly into a properly grounded three prong receptacle or extension cord e Approved by the New York City Fire Department under certificate of Ap proval 4953 To be used only at con struction site with applicable New York City codes regulations rules direc tives permits etc e This product has been approved for use in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts e For indoor use only Provide adequate ventilation e Keep heater away from strong drafts wind water spray rain or dripping water e Use only in well vented areas Before using heater provide at least a three square foot opening of fresh outside air for each 100 000 Btu Hr of rating This heater produces carbon monoxide which is listed by the State of California as a reproductive toxin under Proposition 65 e Do not use heater outdoors or in occu pied dwellings Donot use heater in living or sleeping quarters Kee
10. heater before each use Check connections for leaks Apply mixture of liquid soap and water to connections Bubbles forming show a leak Correct all leaks at once Inspect hose regulator assembly before each use If hose is highly worn or cut replace Have heater inspected yearly by a quali fied service agency Keep inside of heater free from com bustible and foreign objects 100416 SERVICE PROCEDURE AX WARNING Never service heater while it is plugged in con nected to propane supply oper ating or hot Severe burns and electrical shock can occur CLEANING FAN Clean fan every 500 hours of operation or as needed 1 4 Thermal Switch Wire Mounting Bolts Remove screws on side cover using 5 16 nut driver Remove side cover Detach the five motor wires from parts under heater shell Be sure to detach only wires coming from motor The five motor wires are white wire to terminal board black wire to terminal board blue wire to thermal switch wire orange wire to solenoid valve green wire to grounding screw on shell Remove fan guard from rear of heater Grounding Screw Mount Motor Wires Figure 7 Location of Fan and Motor 100416 10 11 OWNER S MANUAL Reach into rear of heater shell Care fully pull motor wires through hole in bottom of shell Note Pull wires through hole one at a time Remove nuts and mounting bolts hold
11. ing motor mount to shell Use 3 8 nut driver and 7 16 wrench Carefully pull motor and fan out of shell IMPORTANT Be careful not to damage fan Do not set motor and fan down with the weight resting on fan This could damage fan pitch Tum motor and fan around Place motor and fan into shell backwards Note Mo tor will go into shell first see Figure 8 Line up rear mounting holes in shell with first hole on each side of motor mount see Figure 8 Note When holes are lined up fan should be out side of shell Holding mounting bolt carefully reach through fan blades into rear of heater Be careful not to damage fan pitch In sert bolt through motor mount and shell With free hand attach nut finger tight Repeat process for other mounting hole Use 1 8 hex wrench to loosen setscrew which holds fan to motor shaft see Fig ure 9 Rear Mounting Hole Figure 8 Fan and Motor Turned Around Setscrew Motor shaft Figure 9 Fan Motor Shaft and Setscrew Location N 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 Slip fan off motor shaft Clean fan using soft cloth moistened with kerosene or solvent Dry fan thoroughly Replace fan on motor shaft Make sure setscrew is touching back of flat sur face on motor shaft see Figure 10 Place setscrew on flat of shaft Tighten setscrew firmly 40 50 inch pounds Remove two nuts and bolts securing motor mount to sh
