Position WARNING To reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to the equipment take the following precautions when installing the equipment eee The Compaq R6000 UPS and the Extended Runtime Modules ERMs 150 300 Ib MUST be installed at the bottom of the rack If placed in rack with existing equipment the rack must be re configured to allow installation of UPS at the bottom of the rack The Compaq R6000 UPS must be mounted on the fixed rails included in the UPS package Refer to the appropriate installation card and rack template also shipped with your Compaq R6000 UPS kit for instructions on rack mounting the Compaq R6000 UPS Installation 2 3 Outline of Installation Procedure This chapter details the following steps required for Compaq R6000 UPS installation Unpack the Compaq R6000 UPS Assemble the rails in the rack NOTE If installing an Extended Runtime Module ERM with the Compaq R6000 UPS the ERM must be installed at the bottom of the rack with the UPS immediately above If the UPS is installed without an ERM the UPS must be installed at the bottom of the rack Install the Compaq R6000 UPS chassis on the rails Wire the Compaq R6000 UPS Have a licensed electrician attach the REPO port Have a licensed electrician wire the UPS to utility power Install any optional ERMs Complete the assembly of the Compaq R6000 UPS in the rack install the batteries after the chassis is in place and all wiri

Refer to Care and Storage in this chapter for information on keeping the batteries charged while the UPS is in extended storage Battery Maintenance 5 3 When to Replace Batteries If the red LED flashes check the LCD display for the type of alarm If the alarm reads Battery Self test failed your batteries should be replaced within 30 to 60 days The red LED will be accompanied by an audible alarm if enabled NOTE Depending on usage and environmental conditions your batteries will last 3 to 6 years after purchase Verify that battery replacement is required by initiating a UPS self test press the Test Reset Alarm If the red LED is still flashing after the test replace the batteries See Chapter 3 Operation for information on initiating a self test Pre Failure Battery Warranty The Pre Failure Battery Warranty standard on all Compaq Uninterruptible Power Supply UPS models extends the advantage of a Compaq three year limited warranty by applying it to the battery before it actually fails Specifically the Pre Failure Battery Warranty ensures that when Compaq Power Management software notifies customers that the battery may fail the battery is replaced free of charge under the warranty Compaq maintains the highest standards in the industry as evidenced by the Compaq Pre Failure Battery Warranty The Pre Failure Battery Warranty is beneficial in at least two significant ways treduced total cost of

X Alarms Utility Not Present Battery Totally Discharged This means there is no charge left in the battery and the UPS can no longer power its loads The batteries must be recharged for 24 hours before further use If this alarm occurs when the UPS is not on battery power the battery needs to be replaced X Alarms Battery Totally Discharged UPS on Battery When the UPS switches to battery power it triggers an alarm The left yellow LED will light Configuration 4 11 UPS on Battery Load Power Off When the UPS is no longer protecting its load devices and there is no utility voltage powering the devices the UPS will trigger an alarm Load Power Off Battery Test Failed Periodically the Compaq UPS microprocessor initiates a brief discharge cycle to check the charge level of the battery packs If this test fails the UPS will trigger an alarm indicating that battery replacement is imminent Battery Self Test Failed Site Wiring Fault This alarm is triggered when either there is no ground connection between utility power and the UPS or the line and neutral connections between utility power and the UPS are reversed This is disabled for 200V and 208V X Alarms Site Wiring Fault Battery Data gt Battery Data Also under Main Menu is Battery Data displaying in 10 increments the amount of charge on the battery If the UPS is in Battery mode the graph 4 12 Compaq R6000 Series UP
