2. mance of all scheduled maintenance Owner s Warranty Responsibilities As the small off road engine owner you should however be aware that B amp S may deny you war ranty coverage if your small off road engine or a part has failed due to abuse neglect improper maintenance or unapproved modifications You are responsible for presenting your small off road engine to an Authorized B amp S Service Dealer as soon as a problem exists The undisputed warranty repairs should be completed in a reasonable amount of time not to exceed 30 days If you have any questions regarding your war ranty rights and responsibilities you should con tact a B amp S Service Representative at 1 414 259 5262 The emission warranty is a defects warranty Defects are judged on normal engine perfor mance The warranty is not related to an in use emission test Briggs amp Stratton Emission Control Defects Warranty Provisions The following are specific provisions relative to your Emission Control Defects Warranty Coverage It is in addition to the B amp S engine warranty for non regulated engines found in the Operating and Maintenance Instructions 1 Warranted Parts Coverage under this warranty extends only to the parts listed below the emission con trol systems parts to the extent these parts were present on the engine purchased a Fuel Metering System e Cold start enrichment system e Carburetor and internal parts e Fuel Pump b Air Induc

7. before starting engine e Turn engine OFF and let engine cool at least 2 minutes 1 Tilt engine at angle shown to properly fill fuel before removing gas cap tank 2 Remove cap and add fuel until level is approximately 1 below top of fuel tank neck Be careful not to overfill 3 Replace cap before starting If you are starting your engine for the FIRST time follow the steps outlined under Starting A New Engine STARTING A NEW ENGINE Add oil and fuel as instructed in this manual prior to attempting to start engine See Oil and Fuel HALF CHOKE s 7 A OFF POSITION Set unit on flat surface push primer bulb 15 times Move red choke lever to the FULL CHOKE position Squeeze throttle trigger and pull starter handle sharply until engine runs Wait a maximum of 10 seconds then move choke lever to HALF CHOKE position TYPICAL THROTTLE TRIGGER Run the engine at HALF CHOKE for 20 seconds or until unit accelerates smoothly Move CHOKE to OFF position Wait a minimum of 20 seconds then release throttle trigger BRIGGS amp STRATTON STARTING CAUTION This engine is shipped from Briggs 8 Stratton without oil Check oil level before starting engine If you start the engine without oil the engine will be damaged beyond repair and will not be covered under warranty Ah WARNING EN e Do not use pressurized starting fluids e Vapors are flammable STARTING AND OPERATING TIPS After engi
8. chaff or grass e Drain all fuel from fuel tank into proper receptacle for storage e Press the primer bulb 15 times to purge fuel from carburetor and fuel lines Drain remaining fuel into proper receptacle If fuel is to be disposed please refer to local rules for proper disposal e Remove spark plug Place 1 teaspoon or 5 cc of oil into spark plug hole e Pull starter rope slowly 8 10 times to properly coat the cylinder bore and piston for storage Replace spark plug and tighten Any residual oil may burn off in subsequent starts This may result in white smoke emission from muffler e This trimmer may be stored in a variety of positions It is best to store in horizontal position with the spark plug up Do not store or transport with the spark plug down Note Storing or transporting with the spark plug down will result in hard starting and or engine smoking AX WARNING Store in a clean dry area Do not store in same area as a stove furnace water heater or other appliance that uses a pilot light or has a device that can create a spark e When removing the unit from storage only use fresh gasoline Perform operation checks see maintenance schedule before starting engine BRIGGS amp STRATTON 14 SERVICE See an Authorized Briggs amp Stratton Service Dealer Each one carries a stock of Genuine Briggs amp Stratton Parts and is equipped with special service tools Trained mechanics assure expert repa

L PURCHASE DATE AT THE TIME WARRANTY SERVICE IS REQUESTED THE MANUFACTURING DATE OF THE PRODUCT WILL BE USED TO DETERMINE THE WARRANTY PERIOD ABOUT YOUR ENGINE WARRANTY Briggs amp Stratton welcomes warranty repair and apologizes to you for being inconvenienced Any Authorized Service Dealer may perform warranty repairs Most warranty repairs are handled routinely but sometimes requests for warranty service may not be appropriate For example warranty would not apply if engine damage occurred because of misuse lack of routine maintenance shipping handling warehousing or improper installation Similarly warranty is void if the serial number of the engine has been removed or the engine has been altered or modified Ifa customer differs with the decision of the Service Dealer an investigation will be made to determine whether the warranty applies Askthe Service Dealerto submit all supporting facts to his Distributor or the Factory for review If the Distributor or the Factory decides that the claim is justified the customer will be fully reimbursed for those items that are defective To avoid misunderstanding which might occur between the customer and the Dealer listed below are some of the causes of engine failure that the warranty does not cover Normal wear Engines like all mechanical devices need periodic parts service and replacement to perform well Warranty will not cover repair when normal use has exhausted the life ofa
