1. 801364 All SR 2 and Australian Valves Detailed instructions are included with each modification kit Identification of Recalled Valves Verify the spring brake control valve is an SR 2 SR 4 or SR 5 Refer to Figure 1 to find the date code on the side of the valve near the cover and verify the valve falls within the date code parameters shown above Valves in use that have been previously repaired as a part of the recall campaign should have a green tie wrap secured to the valve in a conspicuous location to indicate that the valve has been repaired Identification of Recalled Kits Bendix has sold three different SR 4 maintenance kits that might contain the suspect Inlet Exhaust Valve The maintenance kit part numbers are 102048 108259 and 5002195 The date code appears on the kit box under the piece number Using the same date code identification and interpretation information described above check the kit date codes If the kit date code falls between March 1 2000 CO100T and April 30 2001 D3001T the kit must be replaced with a kit of the same piece number 2002 Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC Printed in U S A All rights reserved Inlet Exhaust Inlet Valve Valve Spring Pipe Thread Size Reservoir Check Valve Assembly with O ring Not included in kit SR 5 Valve piece number 801364 not included in kit Green Tie Wrap Figure 4 Modification Kit Contents 2002 Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems L

Technical Bulletin Bulletin No TCH 003 045 Effective Date 5 10 02 Cancels NA Page 1 of 3 Subject SR 2 SR 4 and SR 5 Product Recall Campaign The Bendix Trailer Spring Brake Control Valve models SR 2 SR 4 SR 5 and Australian valve models ABV3802 SR 3 and SR 38 manufactured between March 2000 and April 2001 are a part of a voluntary recall campaign Also included are SR 4 maintenance kits as identified below The recall DOES NOT affect the Bendix SR 3 Inversion Valve Piece number this Piece number side date code this side date code opposite Date code SR 4 New Style SR 4 Old Style Figure 1 Valve Identification What You Need To Do All vehicle manufacturers dealers and distributors should immediately stop using and or selling any of the SR 2 SR 4 or SR 5 or in Australia any ABV3802 SR 3 and SR 38 Trailer Spring Brake Valves or affected service kits manufactured between March 2000 and April 2001 containing the impacted component Also if you have sold any of these valves please make your customers aware of the recall campaign The Problem The molded rubber face of the Inlet Exhaust Valve I E Valve of the affected SR brake valve assembly can separate from the valve s metal insert and block the exhaust passage of the trailer spring brake circuit This condition can result in affected trailers being unable to apply the parking emergency spring brakes during parking or in the event of a trail

5. er supply line failure The service braking of the trailer as well as the service parking and emergency braking of the tractor are not affected by this defect The Cause The cause of the defect is due to manufacturing processes at a Bendix supplier of the impacted I E Valves The manufacturing processes have been changed to eliminate these factors and prevent recurrence of this fault Valve Date Code Interpretation The date code is interpreted as follows The first character is numeric representing the shift of manufacture 1 or 2 Note The shift of manufacture is optional and may not be on all valves Second is an alpha character A through M skipping the letter I representing January through December for the month of manufacture i e A January B February and so on The_next 4 characters are numbers representing the day of the month followed by the year two digits for each The last character is an alpha character representing the location of the manufacturing plant For example the date code 2K0300T indicates the product was manufactured on the second shift of October 3 2000 in Texas If the valve date code falls between March 1 2000 CO100T and April 30 2001 D3001T the valve must be repaired with one of the available repair kits shown in this bulletin Refer to figures 2 and 3 2002 Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC Printed in U S A All rights reserved Month A through M skipping I Shift of Y
