HIGH POWER DETACHABLE FACE ELECTRONICALLY TUNED AM FM MPX RADIO WITH AUTO REVERSE CASSETTE PLAYER AND QUARTZ CLOCK OWNER S MANUAL Page Operating 1 5 Notes on Use of Front Panel senes 6 Setting ING COCK QNT TTE 6 Freauency Step oie Debt obs eco bees dad ete ener 6 etes d E 7 Care and Maintenance soos 8 xeu Ee aA LU 9 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS i DA 5 D PLL SYNTHESIZER TUNER PROG soe esr REW FF Je RE 4X40 WATTS gu 11S D ON OFF POWER BUTTON VOLUME LEVEL MEMORY Press this button momentarily to turn the unit on or off This button is also used to set the memory for the volume level which will be recalled when the unit is turned on To set the volume memory turn the unit on and adjust the volume using the Volume Control 2 to the level which you wish to be recalled when the unit is turned on Then press the On Off button and hold it for approximately 2 seconds The unit will turn off and the selected volume level is now set in the memory If the unit is turned off with the volume higher than the memory setting the unit will return to the memory setting when turned back on If however the unit is turned off with the volume lower than the memory setting the unit will return to the lower sett

FMI or FMII will appear on the display panel according to your selection Pressing and holding the button for longer than 2 seconds will activate the Auto Store Tuning function which will automatically scan the AM or FMII bands and enter strong stations into the pre set memory positions for that band If you have already set the pre set memories on the AM or FMII bands to your favorite stations activating the Auto Store feature will erase those stations and enter new ones This feature is most useful when travelling in a new area where you are not familiar with the local stations 9 MANUAL UP DOWN TUNING TUN TUN AUTOMATIC SEEK TUNING Each time the side of the button is tapped the radio will tune one frequency step higher Similarly each tap of the side of the button will tune one frequency step lower To manually tune in a station tap the button of the appropriate direction until the desired frequency is reached Pressing either side of the button for longer than 0 5 seconds and then releasing will activate the Automatic Seek Tuning function in the selected direction The radio will seek the next available station and stop at that frequency The Seek function can be stopped by pressing the button again or activating any other tuning function Pressing either side of the button for longer than 0 5 seconds will cause the radio to continue tuning rapidly in the selected direction until the button is released at

4. be shown on the display panel Adjusting the balance toward the right will increase the number on the right side of the display to a maximum of 0 9 full right Adjusting the balance toward the left will increase the number on the left side of the display to a maximum of 9 0 full left The display will automatically return to the normal indication 5 seconds after the last balance adjustment or when another function is activated D FRONT REAR FADER CONTROL To adjust the front rear speaker balance first select the Fader mode by pressing the Select button 3 so that the FAd indication appears on the display panel Within 5 seconds of choosing the Fader mode press the or the side of the Level Control 2 to adjust the front rear speaker levels as desired When the level of the front and rear speakers is equal 0 0 will be shown on the display panel Adjusting the fader toward the front speakers will increase the number on the left side of the display to a maximum of 9 0 full front Adjusting the fader toward the rear speakers will increase the number on the right side of the display to a maximum of 0 9 full rear The display will automatically return to the normal indication 5 seconds after the last fader adjustment or when another function is activated AM FM BAND SELECTOR BND AUTO STORE TUNING AS During radio operation each momentary press of this button will change the radio band The indication AM
5. set the unit for bass adjustment level number above BASS will flash on display panel treble level number above TREBLE will flash balance bAL on display fader FAd or volume level number The display will automatically return to the normal indication 5 seconds after the last adjustment is made or when another function is activated This unit can be set so that either the clock time or radio fre quency will normally appear on the display panel Use the fol lowing procedure to set the display priority CLOCK TIME PRIORITY With radio frequency on the display panel press and hold the Select button for approximately 2 seconds until clock time is shown The display will now automatically return to time display 5 seconds after any other radio or audio function display NOTE Release the button as soon as the display changes from frequency to time approximately 2 seconds Holding the button in for too long will putthe unit into time setting mode flashing time display See section on Setting the Clock FREQUENCY DISPLAY PRIORITY With clock time showing on the display panel press and hold the Select button for approximately 2 seconds until the frequency display is shown The display will now automatically return to radio frequency 5 seconds after any other function is activated 4 BASS CONTROL To adjust the bass level first select the Bass mode by pressing the Select button 3 so that the level number abo
6. which point it will seek to the next available station LOCAL DISTANT SELECTOR LO DX This feature is used to select the strength of the signals at which the radio will stop during Automatic Seek Tuning Momentarily pressing the button will select the Local setting 1 will appear on the display panel and only strong local stations will be received Momentarily pressing the button again will select the Distant setting LOC will disappear from the display panel and the radio will stop at a wider range of signals including weaker more distant stations 0 STATION PRE SET MEMORIES To set any of the 6 pre set memories in each band use the following procedure 1 Turn the radio on and select the desired band 2 Selectthe first station to be pre set using the Manual Up Down or Automatic Seek Tuning Controls 9 3 Press the pre set button to be set and continue to hold it in After approximately 2 seconds the display will flash the 4 volume will be momentarily muted and the pre set button number P1 P2 etc will momentarily appear on the display panel indicating that the station is now set into that pre set memory position The station can now be recalled at any time by pressing that button 4 Repeat the above procedure for the remaining 5 pre sets on that band and for the other 2 bands on the unit 2 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY PANEL The Liquid Crystal Display LCD panel displays the frequency time and activat

ROGRAM SELECTOR PROG To manually reverse tape direction and play the other side program of the cassette lightly push both the Fast Forward and Rewind 8 buttons at the same time The change of direction will be shown by the tape direction arrow on the dis play panel 2 EJECT BUTTON A Tape playback is stopped and the cassette is ejected by pressing this button which also has the function of switching over to radio operation NOTE Never leave a cassette engaged in the player when not in use Doing so can cause damage to the cassette and or mechanism of the unit Always press the eject button and remove the cassette before removing the detachable front panel FRONT PANEL RELEASE BUTTON This button is used to release the mechanism that holds the front panel to the chassis To detach the front panel press the button so that the left side of the panel is released Grasp the released side and pull it off of the chassis To re attach the panel position the right side of the panel in place first and then press the left side of the panel until the mechanism locks it into place NOTES ON USE OF FRONT PANEL Make sure the front panel is right side up when attaching it DETACHING THE FRONT PANEL to the chassis as it cannot be attached when up side down 2 Do not press very hard on the front panel when attaching it to the chassis No more than light to moderate pressure should be needed 3 When attaching the front panel make sure th

11. e right side is correctly engaged before pressing the left side to lock it into Release Button position 4 When taking the front panel with you please use the supplied ATTACHING THE FRONT PANEL carrying case to protect the panel from dirt and damage Make sure there is no dust or dirt on the electrical terminals on the back of the panel as this could cause intermittent operation or other malfunctions Engage right side first SETTING THE CLOCK Turn the radio on so that the radio frequency or clock time is shown on the display panel Press and hold the Select button 3 approximately 4 seconds until the time display begins flashing While the time display is still flashing press the Manual Up Tuning button to adjust the hours and the Manual Down Tuning button to adjust the minutes to the correct time 4 When the correct time is shown on the display panel press the Select button 3 again to return to normal display FREQUENCY STEP SWITCH This unit is supplied pre set at the factory for reception of North American radio stations 10 KHz channel spacing on AM 200 KHz spacing on FM Use in other areas of the world may require different channel spacing A switch on the bottom of the chassis allows selection of 9 KHz AM 50 KHz FM channel spacing With the 16 pin power connector un plugged from the socket at the rear of the chassis slide the switch to the appropriate position using a small screwdriver blad
12. ed functions NOTE It is a characteristic of LCD panels that if subjected to cold temperatures for an extended period of time they may take longer to illuminate than under normal conditions In addition the visibility of the numbers on the LCD may slightly decrease The LCD read out will return to normal when the temperature increases to a normal range 3 CASSETTE DOOR Hold the cassette with the exposed tape edge to the right and insert it into the cassette door Depress fully until the cassette is engaged and begins playing as shown by the tape direction indication on the display panel When the cassette reaches the end on the side of the tape being played the unit will automatically change direction of play as shown by the direction arrow and play the other side of the cassette NOTE Observe cassette operation Cautions in the Care and Maintenance section of this manual FAST FORWARD BUTTON Pushing the Fast Forward button will cause the tape to move rapidly in the forward direction of play tape direction arrow on display panel will flash To stop Fast Forward movement lightly push the Rewind Button until the Fast Forward button disengages 5 REWIND BUTTON REW Pushing the Rewind button will cause the tape to move rapidly in the reverse direction of play opposite tape direction arrow on display panel will flash To stop Rewind movement lightly push the Fast Forward button until the Rewind button disengages P
13. ing when turned back on 1 VOLUME LEVEL CONTROL VOL VOL To increase the volume level press the VOL side of the button The volume will increase and the level will be shown on the display panel from a minimum of 0 to a maximum of 80 To increase the volume quickly keep the button pressed To decrease the volume level press the VOL side of the button Keep the button pressed to decrease the volume quickly The display will automatically return to the normal indication 5 seconds after the last volume adjustment or when another function is activated These buttons are also used in conjunction with the Select button 3 to adjust the bass treble balance and fader levels as described in 4 and D SELECT BUTTON SEL DISPLAY CALL DISPLAY PRIORITY SELECTOR This button is used to select the audio function volume bass treble balance or fade to be adjusted using the Level Control 2 as well as the indication time frequency or radio pre set number shown on the display panel A momentary press of the button will change the display from radio frequency to clock time After 5 seconds the display will automatically return to frequency if set to frequency display priority If the unit has been set to time display priority a momentary press of the button will change the display from time to frequency After 5 seconds it will change back to time display Additional momentary presses of the button will
