2. 1 Press the button marked SPEED DIAL The icons and 4 appear along with icons 1 9 for any speed dial num bers already programmed If speed dial numbers are programmed the 1182 will say Press number to speed dial or press to program If no speed dial numbers are pro grammed the 1182 will just say Press to program 2 Press the button below Icons 1 9 will appear 3 Press a button below any numerical icon If a number exists the 1182 will prompt you to enter a new num ber press 1 or to delete the number press 3 If no number has been pro grammed the 1182 will prompt you to enter a new Speed Dial number 4 Enter a Speed Dial number and then press the button below 4 You can enter numbers and pauses just as you program Call Forward numbers See page 28 Entering Special Num bers The 1182 will return you to Step 2 above You can repeat the steps above or press the 4 to exit 38 Use Speed Dial 1 Press the button marked SPEED DIAL Icons 1 9 will appear for each number programmed The 1182 will say Press number to speed dial or press to program 2 Press the button corresponding to the Speed Dial number you want to dial The 1182 will go off hook and dial the number You will hear dial tone and then the DTMF tones over the speaker as the call is dialed When the called party answers pick up the handset on your telephone to begin your co

To call forward to pager press 3 f the caller presses 3 the call is for warded to the pager number In Case of Difficulty Check this section if your 1182 does not work properly If the suggestions here don t help call our National Service Center at 1 800 222 3111 Display Screen Remains Blank e Check the line cord connections on the back of the unit and at the wall outlet e Move the AC adapter to another wall outlet No Messages Received e Check Main Greeting to see if your mailbox is offered e Check all line cord connections at both the wall jack the telephone and the 1182 If you have a message consisting of telephone ringing it is the result of a failed Call Forward attempt where the caller did not wait to be routed to your voice mailbox Messages are incomplete e Check Maximum Message Time e Check Maximum Number of Mes sages Received No Calls Forwarded e Make sure both lines are plugged in e Check Call Forwarding number No Voice Prompting Can Be Heard e Make sure the VOLUME switch is turned up high enough so as to be audible If You Press a Function Button and Nothing Happens Make certain that the panel is either fully up or down e The 1182 could be taking a message Low Battery Icon Remains On e Make sure batteries are installed cor rectly e If icon remains on replace the battery with a new battery System Does Not Respond to Remote Comm
4. your call press 1 f the caller presses 1 the 1182 then uses the second line to dial and forward the call Pager Notify Remote Notify If Call Forward Pager Notify and Re mote Notify are all activated the caller will not be offered the Pager Notify and or Remote Notify options unless the caller presses 0 to leave a message or if the Call Forward attempt was unsuc cessful Specific operation depends on the inter action of Call Forward Remote Notify and Pager Notify features as described below 40 1 If Remote Notify and Pager Notify are both off the caller hears the Mailbox Greeting and can leave a message 2 If Remote Notify is on the caller is prompted If your message is ur gent press 1 If your message is not urgent press 2 If the caller presses 1 the unit calls the Remote Notify number after the caller leaves a mes sage and hangs up and informs the owner of an urgent message If the caller presses 2 the 1182 takes the message without informing the owner 3 If just Pager Notify is on the caller is prompted To leave a message press 2 To call forward to pager press 3 If the caller presses 2 the unit plays the Mailbox Greeting and takes a message If the caller presses 3 the call is forwarded to the pager service 4 If Remote Notify and Pager Notify are both on the caller is prompted f your message is urgent press 1 If your message is not urgent press 2
5. 17 Retrieve Messages Remotely 1 Call the unit from any touch tone phone Listen to the Main Greeting and select your mailbox 2 During your Mailbox Greeting press the button on the telephone You will be prompted to enter your security code 3 If you enter an incorrect code twice your call is disconnected 4 For the correct code you will hear For your messages press 1 After listening to each message a va riety of choices on how to treat the message is offered see next page 33 Message Options To repeat message press 1 This lets you hear the message again To save message to your mailbox press 2 This function saves the message that you just listened to as an old mes sage To delete press 3 This function deletes the message It is suggested that you delete all unwanted messages to free memory To repaat from first message press 4 This allows you to repeat your mes sages starting with the first message To pause press 5 This immediately halts the playback of the message To resume at the point where you left off press 5 again The 1182 will pause indefinitely until you press 5 To skip forward one message press 6 This lets you skip to the next message To skip back one message press 7 This lets you to skip back to the pre vious message NOTE If the previous message was de leted the unit will automatically skip back to the m

Line Cords Important Installation Precautions e Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the Jacki is specifically de signed for wet locations Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals unless the telephone line has been disconnected at the network interface Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines If you are going to place your 1182 unit on a desk or table top proceed with the following in structions to connect your telephone line cord s You have two options when connecting the 1182 to the phone You may either Connect two single line telephone units or e Connect a 2 line telephone unit Connect the outside line s If you have one wall jack for both incoming lines plug one end of a line cord into the jack on the 1182 marked TO LINE 1 1 amp 2 Plug the other end of the line cord into the modular wall jack If you have a separate wall jack for each in coming line plug one end of a second line cord into the jack on the 1182 marked To LINE 2 ONLY and the other end into the sec ond modular wall jack 10 Connect Telephone Line Cords Connect two single line telephones Take a line cord and plug one end into the jack on the first tele phone Plug the other end of the cord into the jack on the 1182 marked TO TEL 1 1 amp 2 Take another line cord and plug one end into the second

Message Press 2 The Attach Message function lets you record and attach a message at the end of your Main Greeting Usually you will want to attach a message which you in tend to delete after a few days An ex ample of an Attach Message is Sorry the office is closed today due to the national holiday Press the button below 2 You will hear Enter attach message To record the attach message press 7 To re peat the menu press O To exit from menu press You are prompted to select the desired line and then to begin recording at the tone When finished press the button below the The 1182 will give you the opportunity to hear delete or re record your Attach Message To Record Main Greeting Press 7 To record your Main Greeting press the button below the 7 and follow the voice prompts You are given the option of playing and recording a different Main Greeting for each of the two lines or to record one Main Greeting to be played for both lines When recording from the microphone you should be in a quiet area Speak clearly and normally at 8 10 inches from the microphone You can also re cord the Main Greeting from the hand set of a remote telephone See Remote Programming on page 35 21 Main Greeting Functions To Record Voice System Prompts Press 8 You can replace certain digital voice prompts with your own custom voice prompts Before proceeding you should be f

10. selection the 1182 automatically selects lines 1 and 5 The 1182 returns to the idle display To activate additional mailboxes re peat the steps described above To Deactivate a Mailbox 1 To deactivate a mailbox press the same SETUP MAILBOX button as de scribed above You will then be given the menu of all mailboxes 2 Select the one you would like to deac tivate for instance mailbox 3 You will hear Mailbox 3 is on To turn off mailbox 3 press 2 3 If you press the button below the 2 you will hear Mailbox 3 is off The LCD screen will return to its original display with mailbox 1 and the time and date Deactivating a mailbox erases the Mailbox Greeting An nouncement as well as all mes sages in that mailbox including any timed memos Greetings amp Announcements The Main Greeting is the first thing a caller hears when the 1182 answers the call It is used to greet callers and to of fer them options of where to route their call You can record a custom Main Greeting for each incoming line or use a recorded default Main Greeting that automatically routes all calls to mailbox 1 Here is an example of a custom Main Greeting Hello you have reached the XYZ Company To forward your call to Dave press 1 to leave a message for Dave press 2 If you want to leave a message for Tom press 3 for Lisa press 4 If you need our mailing address press 7 To get di rections press 8 To
11. will hear the DTMF tones as you dial When the called party answers pick up the handset on your tele phone to begin your conversation 3 To terminate the dial sequence at any time press the button below the 4 icon 4 twice The 1182 will not answer the second ringing line until the local extension of the line using the dialing feature goes off hook or until the feature is terminated and the unit returns to the idle state Auto Redial 1 To have the 1182 redial the last num ber dialed press the button marked AUTO REDIAL The 1182 will display the last num ber dialed and the icon above a corresponding button You will hear the DTMF tones over the speaker as the 1182 dials the number When the called party answers the call pick up the handset on your tele phone to begin the conversation If the line is busy the 1182 will load the number into a retry queue and will redial the number at set inter vals See Set Auto Redial Delay Time on the next page to set the interval To cancel the redial attempts press the button below the 4 icon If there is an incoming call when there is a redial number in queue the 1182 will terminate the redial mode and answer the call Also if you pick up the handset on the local telephone or press any other button on the 1182 the retry attempt will be cancelled 37 Dialing Functions Speed Dial Program Change or Delete a Speed Dial Number

14. ach button can perform two func tions depending upon whether the flip down panel is up or down For example when the lid is up and you press the button corresponding to GREETING ANNOUNCE this function is en acted But when the lid is down and you press the same button the TIME DATE feature is activated Most of the time you won t be using the functions under the lid These are primarily used for the initial setup of your 1182 for example the time and date on the display You should take the time to read through all the instructions to gain an understanding of the interaction of the system 14 Lid closed Initial Settings Set Number of Rings The 1182 is set to answer in 3 rings when it is shipped from the factory You can set it to answer after 1 3 4 or 5 rings or for toll saver mode 2 You can also specify the number of rings for each line individually In Toll Saver mode the unit will an swer after four rings if there are no new messages If there are any new messages it will answer after two rings If you then call in for messages and the phone rings a third time you can hang up the phone before the fourth ring and incur no charge for the call 1 Flip the panel down so that the bot tom list of features is exposed 2 Press the button marked RINGS The 1182 says Select Rings and then prompts you to select line 1 or line 2 Once you select a line the 1182 tells you the cur
15. amiliar with the operation of the sys tem This function is accessed by pressing 8 in response to the Main Greeting menu The chart below identifies each of the prompts by number Default Digital Prompt Dv rompt 2 o To record a message press O To forward your call press 1 Please say your name f your message is urgent press 1 If your message is not urgent press 2 To call forward to pager press 3 To record message press 2 Please enter security code Repeat plays for invalid security code entry Your prompt must convey essentially the same message as the factory prompt For example your custom mes sage for prompt 6 must always tell your caller to press three in order for the prompt to function The only other re striction is a maximum of 4 seconds re cording time for prompt 1 22 When you press 8 the 1182 dis plays icons above buttons 1 through 7 and prompts you to Select Mes sage Select any of the prompts based on the chart for example prompt 1 You will be offered the following options To play the message press 1 To delete message press 3 To re cord a new message press 7 To re peat the menu press 0 To exit menu press Press 7 to record a new message you will hear Message number 1 To record a message press O To forward your call press 1 To record message pre

17. ay hang up the phone Recording a Conversation The 2 Way Memo function lets you re cord a phone conversation into a spe cific message mailbox The system will not answer the other line while the 2 WAY MEMO function is in use To record a phone conversation 1 Press the button marked 2 WAY MEMO signifying 2 way record 36 2 Choose from any of the active mail boxes Once you make your mailbox selec tion the LCD display shows the mail box selected into which the message will be recorded When you select this function during a phone conversation there will be no voice prompt ing The LCD screen will display exactly the same prompts that are shown when the function is selected for the purpose of leav ing a memo in a mailbox 3 If you wish to end the recording press the last button on the right NOTE This unit does not sound warn ing beeps to let the other party know that their call is being re corded To ensure that you are in compliance with any state and federal regulations that con cern recording a telephone call you should start the recording process and then inform the caller that you are recording the call Dialing Functions On Hook Dial 1 Press the button marked ON HOOK DIAL The 1182 will display icons 1 through 9 plus and 4 and you will hear dial tone through the speaker 2 Press the buttons corresponding to the telephone number you want to dial You

21. e lete all messages e Press 0 Repeat the menu e Press 4 Exit menu with no changes To Leave Messages for Others You can leave a message in any of the activated message mailboxes by using the memo function To leave a memo 1 Press SELECT MAILBOX and then press the button marked 2 WAY MEMO Once you press the button the LCD screen will display the word MEMO and you will hear Memo Select mailbox The unit will offer the choice of leav ing a memo in any active voice mail box 2 Select the mailbox 1 2 3 4 5 or 6 The 1182 will then say After the tone record message and then press 3 Record your message When you are finished press 4 4 The messages LED will light and the display will show a new message in that mailbox Mailbox Functions To Leave a Timed Memo The timed memo function lets you re mind yourself of pending activities You can record up to 3 timed memos speci fying the time and date to place each memo in a mailbox At the programmed time and date the 1182 will sound a beep tone over the speaker and leave the memo in your mailbox If Remote Notify is activated the 1182 can call you to alert you to the timed memo To listen to the memo simply select your mailbox and press the MESSAGES button 1 Press SELECT MAILBOX and then press the button marked TIMED MEMO The following example assumes that you are currently in Mailbox 1 You will hear
22. e 1182 will give these options first System Functions Do Not Disturb The Do Not Disturb function allows you to work without hearing the constant ringing of the telephone or hearing mes sages left The Do Not Disturb function answers the phone after 1 full ring and can be turned on and off by the same button 1 Flip the panel down and press the but ton marked DO NOT DISTURB to turn this function on or off Do Not Disturb overrides the An nounce Caller and Speaker On functions Memory Check The digital memory is not partitioned among mailboxes rather it is a pooled resource This means that the allocation of digital memory is dependent upon where the memory is most needed You can use the memory check function to see if you are in danger of running out of memory 1 To activate memory check flip the panel down and press the button marked MEMORY CHECK The unit automatically notifies you with a Low Memory icon when the memory is down to 2 minutes or less When the mem ory reaches zero a memory is full prompt plays when a caller attempts to record a message 31 System Functions Turning On or Off The unit may be turned on and off with out disconnecting the AC power to the unit 1 Flip the panel down and press the but ton marked ON OFF When the 1182 is off you will see an OFF icon on the display screen 2 If you are calling in when the 1182 is OFF letting it ri
