1. Use devices such as low ki chain guide bar nose guards chain brakes and special guide bars that reduce the risks associated with kick back Only use replacement bars and chains specified by the manufacturer or the equivalent Avoid Pin Be extremely aware of situations or obstructions that can cause material to pinch the top of or otherwise stop the chain e Do not cut more than one log at a time e Do not twist the saw as the bar is withdrawn from an undercut when Always begin cutting with the saw at full ays begin the saw housing against wood e Use wedges made of plastic or wood Never use metal to hold the cut open MAINTAIN CONTROL The following precautions should be fol lowed to minimize kickback e A good firm grip on the saw with both hands will help you maintain control Don t let go Grip the rear handle with your right hand whether you are right or left handed Wrap the fingers of your left hand over and around the front handlebar and your left thumb under the front handlebar DO e When making bucking or pruning cuts position your left hand on the front handiebar so it is in a straight line with your right hand on the rear handle Stand slightly to the left side of the saw to keep your body from be ing in a direct line with the cutting chain Keep your left arm straight with the elbow locked e Stand with your weight evenly bal anced on both feet e Do not overreac

10. with your second cut Using a support stand 2 Cut LIMBING AND PRUNING WARNING Never climb into a tree to limb or prune Do not stand on ladders platforms a log or in any position which can cause you to lose your bal ance or control of the saw IMPORTANT POINTS e Watch out for springpoles Springpoles are small size limbs ich can whip toward you or pull you off balance Use extreme caution when cutting small size limbs Be alert for Springback Watch out for branches that are bent or under pres sure Avoid being struck by the branch or the saw when the tension in the wood fibers is released e Frequently clear branches out of the way to avoid tripping over them LIMBING Limbing is removing the branches from a fallen tree When limbing leave larg er lower limbs to support the log off the ground Remove the small limbs in one cut as illustrated in the figure above Branches under tension should be cut from the bottom up to avoid binding the chain saw e Limb a tree only after it is cut down Leave the larger limbs undemeath the _ tree to support the tree as you wo e Start at the base of the felled tree and work toward the top cutting branches and limbs Remove small limbs with one cut e Keep the tree between you and the chain a Remove larger supporting branches with the 1 3 2 3 cutting techniques de scribed in the bucking section e Always use an overcut to cut small and freely ha
