A V Rack Recording S VHS with the DVD R The Pioneer PRV LX1 DVD R allows you to record video as you would with a VCR This document describes the process of creating the simplest DVD possible It will not have a menu nor will it have chapters aside from those which are created when you stop and restart recording for instance when switching source tapes This document describes how to record a DVD from S VHS You can also use this same procedure to capture from a regular VHS tape if it has been recorded at the SP speed highest quality normally 2 hours You will need three things for this process e Your S VHS or VHS tape s containing the source material e A blank DVD R disc e Anidea of the total running time of the material you wish to record on the DVD R Making the Connections 1 On the Autopatch do the following a Patch the S VHS deck to VMONI and the DVD R This will send the audio and video from the S VHS deck to the DVD R It will also allow you to monitor the video coming directly from the S VHS deck using VMON1 i Press Change ii Press S VHS on the input side iii Press VMON1 on the output side iv Press DVD R on the output side v Press Take b Patch the DVD R to VMON2 This will allow you to monitor the video coming into the DVD R using VMON2 which is located above the DVD R in the A V Rack i Press Change ii Press DVD R on the input side iii Press VMON2 on the output side iv

Press Take 2 On the SVHS deck locate the remote switch in the group of five switches on the left hand side and set it to local Configuring the DVD R 3 On the DVD R Press FUNCTION and a colorful interface will appear on VMON2 4 Adjust the input settings a Using the cursor keys and ENTER button move the cursor to the right and set the following options on the initial screen i Drive DVD1 ii V Input Component SMPTE iii A Input XLR 5 Adjust the Menu type a b Using the cursor keys and ENTER button navigate from the initial screen to the DVD Menu menu select the Menu Type option and choose No Menu This will prevent the DVD R from creating the default menu which unless you plan on taking the time to select thumbnails and name the chapters is not very useful 6 Navigate back to the initial screen using the cursor keys and ENTER button to select Back from the menu 7 Adjust the Video Encode Rate a b C Using the cursor keys and ENTER button navigate from the initial screen to the Recording menu move the cursor to the right and set the Video Encode Rate accordingly Adjusting this setting allows you to effectively trade picture quality for quantity A smaller encode rate value displayed as Mbps means lower picture quality but increases the amount of video you can fit on a disc displayed as hours minutes
