The port setting is incorrect The machine may be configured incorrectly The printer driver may be incorrectly installed The machine is malfunctioning 9 5 Troubleshooting Disconnect the printer cable and reconnect it If possible attach the cable to another computer that is working properly and print a job You can also try using a different printer cable Check the Windows printer setting to make sure that the print job is sent to the correct port for example LPT1 If the computer has more than one port make sure that the machine is attached to the correct one Check the printer properties to ensure that all of the print settings are correct Repair the printer software See the Software Section Check the display message on the control panel to see if the machine is indicating a system error Condition The machine selects print materials from the wrong paper source A print job is extremely Slow Half the page is blank The machine prints but the text is wrong garbled or incomplete Possible cause The paper source selection in the printer properties may be incorrect The job may be very complex If you are using Windows 98 Me the Spooling Setting may be set incorrectly The page orientation setting may be incorrect The paper size and the paper size settings do not match The printer cable is loose or defective The wrong printe

15. document Toner Save Mode Selecting this option extends the life of your toner cartridge and reduces your cost per page without a significant reduction in print quality Some printers do not support this feature e Printer Setting If you select this option this feature is determined by the setting you ve made on the control panel of the printer e On Select this option to allow the printer to use less toner on each page e Off If you don t need to save toner when printing a document select this option Darkness Use this option to lighten or darken your print job e Normal This setting is for normal documents e Light This setting is for bolder line widths or darker gray scale images e Dark This setting is for finer line width higher definition in graphics and lighter gray scale images Basic Printing Advanced Options You can set advanced settings by clicking the Advanced Options button e TrueType Options This option determines what the driver tells the printer about how to image the text in your document Select the appropriate setting according to the status of your document This option may be available only in Windows 9x Me depending on your particular printer model Download as Bitmap When this option is selected the driver will download the font data as bitmap images Documents with complicated fonts such as Korean or Chinese or various other fonts will print faster in this setting
16. e Premature wear on the machine Properties such as weight composition grain and moisture content are important factors that affect the machine s performance and the output quality When you choose print materials consider the following e Desired outcome The paper you choose should be appropriate for your project e Size You can use any size paper that fits easily within the paper adjusters of the paper input tray e Weight Your machine supports paper weights as follows 16 to 24 Ib 60 to 90 g m bond for the paper input tray 16 to 43 Ib 60 to 165 g m bond for the manual feeder Brightness Some papers are whiter than others and produce sharper more vibrant images Surface smoothness The smoothness of the paper affects how crisp the printing looks on the paper NOTES e Some paper may meet all of the guidelines in this section and still not produce satisfactory results This may be the result of improper handling unacceptable temperature and humidity levels or other variables over which Xerox has no control Before purchasing large quantities of paper ensure that the paper meets the requirements specified in this user s guide CAUTION Using paper that does not meet these specifications may cause problems requiring repairs Such repairs are not covered by the Xerox warranty or service agreements 3 2 Supported paper types and sizes Type Size Dimensions 215 9 x 279 mm 8 5 x 11 inches
17. 208 C 406 4 F the machine s fusing temperature Place them on a flat surface after removing them from the machine Do not leave them in the paper tray for long periods of time Dust and dirt may accumulate on them resulting in spotty printing e To avoid smudging caused by fingerprints handle them carefully e To avoid fading do not expose printed transparencies to prolonged sunlight Ensure that transparencies are not wrinkled curled or have any torn edges e To avoid damaging the machine use only labels designed for use in laser printers e When selecting labels consider the following factors Adhesives The adhesive material should be stable at 208 C 406 4 F the machine s fusing temperature Arrangement Only use labels with no exposed backing between them Labels can peel off sheets that have spaces between the labels causing serious jams Curl Prior to printing labels must lie flat with no more than 13 mm 5 inches of curl in any direction Condition Do not use labels with wrinkles bubbles or other indications of separation Make sure that there is no exposed adhesive material between labels Exposed areas can cause labels to peel off during printing which can cause paper jams Exposed adhesive can also cause damage to machine components Do not run a sheet of labels through the machine more than once The adhesive backing is designed for only a single pass through the machine
