Keep firm footing and balance at all times Do not raise unit above your shoulders Keep all parts of your body away from the blades Use unit properly Use only for jobs ex plained in this manual Use only in daylight or in good artificial light MAINTENANCE SAFETY 4 WARNING Remove battery pack from unit before performing maintenance Maintain unit according to recommended procedures Have all service and maintenance not ex plained in this manual performed by an au thorized service dealer to avoid creating a hazard Never douse or squirt the unit or charger with water or any other liquid Clean unit and labels with a damp sponge Keep han dles dry clean and free from oil and grease Keep the blades and air vents clean and free of debris to avoid overheating the mo tor Clean after each use TRANSPORTING AND STORAGE Carry the unit with motor stopped and the blades away from your body Secure the unit before storing or transport ing it in a vehicle Store unit so blades cannot accidentally Cause injury Do not store near fertilizers or chemicals which can corrode metal parts Store unit indoors in a high dry place out of the reach of children Do not hang unit so that the trigger switch is depressed BATTERY CARE If over a period of time the battery pack quickly runs down after a full 5 6 hour charging period a replacement battery pack is needed There will be some charge present in the bat tery pack
6. but to ensure maximum running time recharge your battery pack for 5 6 hours before use To prevent permanent battery damage never store in a discharged condition Contact your authorized service dealer for a replacement battery pack and for safe disposal of your old battery pack Battery Use only the following type and size bat tery pack 18 Volt 1 3 Amp Hour Sealed for Life No maintenance required WINTER STORAGE Fully charge for 5 6 hours before winter storage Recharge the battery pack every 3 to 4 months for a 5 6 hour charging period to fully charge the battery pack during winter storage Avoid extended storage without recharge Store in a cool dry place IMPORTANT DISPOSE OF YOUR OLD BATTERIES SAFELY DO NOT CUT OPEN BURN OR INCINERATE DOUBLE INSULATION CONSTRUCTION The charger supplied with this unit is double insulated to help protect against electric shock Double insulation construction con sists of two separate layers of electrical in sulation instead of grounding Tools built with this insulation system are not intended to be grounded No grounding means is provided on this unit nor should a means of grounding be added to this unit Safety precautions must be observed when operating any electrical tool The double in sulation system only provides added protec tion against injury resulting from an internal electrical insulation failure 4 WARNING All electrical repairs to this un

8. fire or explosion and or causing damage to unit Do not attempt to repair unit battery pack or charger Inspect insulation and connectors on the unit and charger before each use If there is any damage do not use until damage is re paired by your authorized service dealer Do not insert any object into the motor area Battery powered units do not have to be plugged into an electrical outlet to operate therefore they are always in operating condi tion Be aware of possible hazards when you are not using your battery powered unit Do not dispose of the battery pack in a fire The cell may explode Check with local code for proper disposal Do not open or mutilate the battery pack Released electrolyte is cor rosive and may cause damage to the eyes or skin It may be toxic if swallowed When handling batteries take care not to short the battery pack with conducting materi als such as rings bracelets and keys The battery pack or conductor may overheat and Cause burns Do not use the unit if the switch levers do not turn the unit on and off properly Repairs to the switch levers must be made by your autho rized service dealer Remove battery pack from unit before ser vicing cleaning or storing Never immerse any part of the unit or char ger into any liquid Inspect charger cord periodically and if damaged have it repaired or replaced by an authorized service dealer Disconnect charger from receptacle when not in use t

GING BATTERY PACK 4 WARNING Never charge battery pack in an explosive or corrosive environment Avoid areas where flammable liquids or gasses are present to avoid creating a fire or explosion Only use the charger provided with your unit when charging the battery pack Use of any other charger could permanently dam age the battery pack and the hedge trim mer Use the charger with standard household electrical outlets only See the voltage specifications on the charger Ensure the charger is not exposed to mois ture Keep the charger and the hedge trim mer dry at all times Keep the charger well ventilated during charging Do not place the charger in an area of extreme heat or cold It will work best at normal room temperature Use the charger indoors only The battery pack should be charged for 5 6 hours before use During charging the battery pack becomes warm This is normal and means the char ger is operating correctly TO CHARGE BATTERY PACK 1 Plug the charger into a standard house hold electrical outlet Rear handle Front handle FRONT HANDLE AND REAR HANDLE The FRONT HANDLE and REAR HANDLE are used to maintain control of the unit CHARGER ene re is used to charge the battery pack 2 Place battery pack in charger When properly connected the red charge indi cator light LED will glow OTE The charge indicator light LED on the charger glows red continuously during Charging and will change
10. by pressing and releasing the levers Make sure motor stops once either lever is released AFTER EACH USE INSPECT AND CLEAN UNIT AND LABELS e After each use inspect complete unit for loose or damaged parts Clean the unit us ing a damp cloth with a mild detergent e Use a soft brush to remove debris from all air intakes and the cuiting blade LUBRICATE BLADES e Stop the unit and remove the battery pack e Remove any debris on blades e Clean all parts and check for damage Have damaged parts replaced Be cautious of sharp edges e Apply alight machine oil along the edge of the top and bottom straps NOTE Ensure handles remain clean and dry BATTERY PACK The battery pack for your hedge trimmer is equipped with nickel cadmium rechargeable batteries Length of service from each charg ing will depend on the type of work you are do ing The battery in this tool has been designed to provide maximum trouble free life However like all batteries it will eventually wear out Do not disassemble battery pack and or attempt to replace the batteries To obtain the longest possible battery life Do not store or charge the battery pack in an area of extreme heat or cold It will work best at normal room temperature Never store battery pack in a discharged condition Recharge the battery pack im mediately after use All batteries gradually lose their charge The higher the temperature the quicker they will lose th

17. to green when the battery pack is fully charged and ready for use Battery Pack Indicator Light LED RECHARGING YOUR BATTERY PACK Recharge the battery as soon as the cutting power of your cordless hedge trimmer is no longer effective Avoid running the battery into full dis charge i e avoid draining the battery com pletely Follow the procedure outlined in the CHARGING BATTERY PACK section Recharging the battery pack according to these instructions should ensure maximum battery life Do not recharge the battery pack in an area of extreme heat or cold The charger will work best at normal room temperature TO INSTALL BATTERY PACK e Place the battery pack in your hedge trim mer see illustration Ensure the latches on each side of the battery pack snap in place and battery pack is securely connected to hedge trimmer TO REMOVE BATTERY PACK e Press both latches on side of battery pack to release battery pack from hedge trimmer see illustration CORRECT OPERATING POSITION When operating unit stand as shown and check for the following e Wear eye protection and heavy clothing e Grip rear handle with right hand and front handle with left hand e Keep unit below waist level STOPPING YOUR UNIT To stop the unit release one of the switch lev ers allow blades to stop then move the hedge trimmer away from the cutting area STARTING YOUR UNIT Press both switch levers by gripping front and
