1. Remove staples break glue on top flaps or cut tape at carton end and peel along top flap to open carton e Remove loose parts if included with unit i e operator s manual safety glasses etc e Cutalong corners lay carton down flat and remove packing material e Roll or slide unit out of carton and check carton thoroughly for loose parts Disconnecting Spark Plug Wire Before setting up your string trimmer mower disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug See Figure 1 Spark Plug Plug Wire Spark Plug Figure 1 Setting Up Your String Trimmer Mower e Loosen each wing nut enough to separate the plastic connectors between the upper and lower handle Gently lift up and pull back on the upper handle to raise the handle toward the operating position See Figure 2 e Separate the connectors and position the bottom tip of upper handle connector in front of the bottom tip of lower handle connector To secure the upper and lower handle tighten the wing nuts and washers carriage bolts must be seated properly into the handle and grooves must line up between connectors Lower Handle Connector Upper Handle Connector Carriage Bolt Figure 2 NOTE f you wish to adjust the height of the upper handle refer to the Adjustment Section e Loosen the wing nut that secures rope guide to handle With the spark plug wire disconnected and grounded pull t

3. attached to the trimmer deflector assembly It is used to cut the trimmer line if it is too long See Figure 4 Trimmer Deflector Assembly The trimmer deflector assembly is connected to the trimmer base and it is used to prevent yard debris from being thrown See Figure 4 Spindle Assembly The spindle assembly rotates the trimmer line Trimmer Line The trimmer line is attached to the spindle assembly and it is used to trim grass or weeds Throttle Control Lever Not Shown The throttle control lever is located on the engine It controls the engine s speed and stops the engine See separate engine manual packed with unit for details Engine Controls See the separate engine manual for the location and function of the controls on the engine Stopping Engine e Release control lever to disengage the spindle assembly and to lock it in the control lock bracket e Move throttle control lever to STOP or OFF position e Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug and ground against the engine SECTION 5 OPERATING YOUR STRING TRIMMER MOWER trimmer mower can result in foreign objects being thrown into the eyes which can cause severe eye damage Always wear safety glasses included with unit or eye shields when operating the string trimmer mower Gas And Oil Fill Up Service the engine with gasoline and oil as instructed in the separate engine manual packed with your string trimmer mower Read instructions carefully 1 WA
4. difficult to stand on do not trim Do not trim on slopes when the ground is slippery or wet Trim across the face of a slope not up and down e Avoid spindle assembly contact to concrete asphalt or gravel The lower handle connector has three marked lines on the top and the upper handle connector has one marked line See Figure 5 e To raise the upper handle move the upper handle forward to match the single marked line with the front marked line on the lower handle connector e To lower the upper handle move the upper handle rearward to match the single marked line with the rear marked line on the lower handle connector Secure the handle connectors in position by tightening each wing nut carriage bolts must be seated properly into the handle and grooves must line up between connectors Also make certain the bottom tip of the upper handle connector in front of the bottom tip of lower handle connector The trimmer line is connected to the spindle disc which can be raised or lowered See Figure 6 The spindle disc in the normal position rest on the spindle cap approximately 2 off the ground Loosen but do not remove each wing nut on spindle shaft See Figure 5 not to be removed from the spindle shaft 1 WARNING The wings nuts are designed by hand or using a tool e Slide spindle disc along shaft to the desired Wing Nut l Carriage Bolt position and tighten wing nuts to secure in position e The spindle di

RNING Debris thrown from the string engine running or until the engine has been allowed to cool for at least two minutes after running WARNING Never fill fuel tank indoors with Starting Engine Attach spark plug wire to spark plug Make certain the metal cap on the end of the spark plug is fastened securely over the metal tip on the spark plug See separate engine operator s manual e Before each use remove any debris from the engine s air intake screen on top of engine Debris can cause engine to overheat Prime engine as instructed in the separate engine manual packed with your unit e Move throttle control lever on engine to FAST or RUN position e Make sure control lever is disengaged and locked in bracket e Stand behind the string trimmer mower and grasp starter handle and pull rope out slowly until engine reaches start of compression cycle rope will pull slightly harder at this point Let the rope rewind slowly Pull rope with a rapid continuous full arm stroke Keeping a firm grip on the starter handle let the rope return to the starter slowly Repeat until engine starts SECTION 6 MAKING ADJUSTMENTS WARNING Do not at any time make any A adjustments without first stopping engine and disconnecting spark plug wire Handle Adjustment To adjust position of the upper handle proceed as follows e Loosen each wing nut so the carriage bolts are unseated from the handle and the handle connectors ar
8. alf way toward you d Repeat these steps as needed Do not operate the string trimmer mower while under the influence of alcohol or drugs The trimmer head control handle is a safety device Never attempt to bypass its operation Doing so makes the safety device inoperative and may result in personal injury through contact with the rotating head or lines The trimmer head control handle must operate easily in both directions and automatically return to the disengaged position when released Disengage the trimmer head before starting the engine Never operate the string trimmer mower in wet grass Always be sure of your footing A slip and fall can cause serious personal injury If you feel you are losing your footing release the trimmer head control handle immediately and the trimmer head will stop rotating within a few seconds 9 Trim or mow only in daylight or good artificial light Walk never run 10 Stop the trimmer head when crossing gravel drives walks or roads 11 If the equipment should start to vibrate abnormally stop the engine and check immediately for the cause Vibration is generally a warning of trouble 12 Shut the engine off and wait until the trimmer head comes to a complete stop before replacing trimmer line making any adjustment or repairs The trimmer head continues to rotate for a few seconds after the engine is shut off Never place any part of the body in the trimmer head area until you are sure the blade h
9. an adult Service Safe Handling Of Gasoline To avoid personal injury or property damage use extreme care in handling gasoline Gasoline is extremely flammable and the vapors are explosive Serious personal injury can occur when gasoline is spilled on yourself or your clothes which can ignite Wash your skin and change clothes immediately 1 Use only an approved gasoline container 2 Extinguish all cigarettes cigars pipes and other sources of ignition 3 Never fuel machine indoors because flammable vapors will accumulate in the area 4 Never remove gas cap or add fuel while the engine is running Allow engine to cool at least two minutes before refueling 5 Never over fill fuel tank Fill tank to no more than 1 2 inch below bottom of filler neck to provide space for fuel expansion 6 Replace gasoline cap and tighten securely 7 If gasoline is spilled wipe it off the engine and equipment Move unit to another area Wait 5 minutes before starting the engine 8 Never store the machine or fuel container inside where there is an open flame spark or pilot light as on a gas water heater space heater furnace clothes dryer or other gas appliances 9 To reduce fire hazard keep the string trimmer mower free of grass leaves or other debris build up Clean up oil or fuel spillage and remove any fuel soaked debris 10 Allow mower to cool at least 5 minutes before storing General Service 7 1 Never run an engine

21. nd do not leave the unit tipped for any length of time Oil can drain into the upper part of the engine causing a starting problem Engine Refer to the separate engine manual for all engine maintenance instructions e Check engine oil level before each use as instructed in the separate engine manual packed with your unit Read and follow instructions carefully e Replace air cleaner every 25 hours under normal conditions or once a season Clean every few hours under extremely dusty conditions To service the air cleaner refer to the separate engine manual packed with your unit e The spark plug should be cleaned and the gap reset once a season Check engine manual for correct plug type and gap specifications Threading Trimmer Line WARNING Always stop engine discon A nect spark plug wire and ground against the engine before threading trimmer line on your string trimmer mower Wait for the trimmer line to stop rotating When the trimmer line becomes too short or worn change to a new trimmer line as follows e Remove the worn trimmer line and replace with new trimmer line packed with your string trimmer mower Always use OEM 743 0112 when purchasing additional trimmer line e Fold new trimmer line in half and thread the ends of line through the loop from the inside out without going all the way through the loop See Figure 8 Slide the loop end of the trimmer line under the metal tab and secure in place by crossing
