1. Auger Shaft e Atleast once a season remove the shear pins from the auger shaft and spray lubricant inside the shaft See Figure 14 e On Model 1028 only grease fittings can be found at either end of the auger shaft Lubricate with a grease gun once a season Auger Bearings Every season lubricate the auger bearings and the bearings on the side of the frame with light oil See Figure 14 Drive and Shifting Mechanism Lubricate at least once a season or after every 25 hours of operation Remove the rear cover lubricate any chains sprockets gears bearings shafts and shifting mechanism at least once a season Use engine oil ora spray lubricant Avoid getting oil on the friction wheel rubber and aluminum drive plate Refer to Figure 10 There is a grease fitting on the top of the axle shaft which drives the rear track drive wheels on both sides of the unit Grease these fittings every 25 hours or once a season Gear Shaft Lubricate the gear shaft with 6 n 1 grease at least once a season or after every 25 hours of operation available at automotive stores or order part number 737 0170 Refer to Figure 10 IMPORTANT Keep all grease and oil off of the rubber friction wheel and aluminum drive plate Chute Directional Control The worm gear on the chute directional control should be greased with multipurpose automotive grease SECTION 7 SERVICING YOUR SNOW THROWER WARNING Before servicing repairing or A inspect

Electric Starter Button Switch Chute Directional Control t Model 1028 tt Model 1130 equipped with one 1 Safety Ignition Key Throttle Control dg A N WD Open gt Fuel Shut Off Valve If Equipped Figure 5 WARNING Read understand and follow A all instructions and warnings on the machine and in this manual before operating Drive Control Auger Control Lock The drive control is located on the right handle Squeeze the drive control to engage the wheel drive Release to stop See Figure 5 The drive control also lochs the auger control so you can turn the chute directional control without interrupting the snow throwing process If the auger control is engaged along with the drive control the operator can release the auger control on the left handle and the augers will remain engaged Release both controls to stop the augers and track drive IMPORTANT Always release drive control before changing speeds Auger Drive Control The auger drive control is located on the left handle Squeeze the control grip to engage the augers Release to stop the snow throwing action Drive control must also be released See Figure 5 IMPORTANT Refer to Auger Control Test on page 9 prior to operating your snow thrower Read and follow all instructions carefully and perform all adjustments to verify your snow thrower is operating safely and properly Chute Tilt Control The di
3. located below the carburetor cover NOTE Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable alternative in minimizing the formation of fuel gum deposits during storage Do not drain carburetor if using fuel stabilizer e Wipe equipment with an oiled rag to prevent rust Remove spark plug and pour one ounce of engine oil through spark plug hole into cylinder Cover spark plug hole with rag Crank engine several times to distribute oil Replace spark plug SECTION 8 TROUBLESHOOTING e Follow the lubrication recommendations found in the Maintenance Section Always store the snow thrower in a clean dry area NOTE When storing any type of power equipment in an unventilated or metal storage shed care should be taken to rust proof the equipment Using a light oil or silicone coat the equipment especially any chains springs bearings and cables Problem Cause Remedy Engine fails to start 1 Fuel tank empty or stale fuel 1 Fill tank with clean fresh gasoline Fuel becomes stale after thirty days 2 Blocked fuel line 2 Clean the fuel line 3 Choke not in the ON position 3 Move switch to the ON position 4 Faulty spark plug 4 Clean adjust gap or replace 5 Safety key not in ignition switch on engine 5 Insert the key fully into the switch 6 Spark plug wire disconnected 6 Connect spark plug wire 7 Primer button not being used properly 7 Refer to the engine manual 8 Fuel shut off valve closed

A pair of pliers may help in this job e Align the two holes on both chute rods and insert the hairpin clip removed earlier through these holes See Figure 2 Model 1130 e Adjust the eyebolt on the chute directional control so the rod does not come into contact with the engine by moving the hex nut against the handle if necessary Retighten the wing nut to secure the directional control in this position e If not already attached slip the cables that run from the handle panel to the chute assembly into the cable guide located on top of the engine See Figure 3 Figure 3 e If not already attached unwrap the headlight wire which is attached to the headlight beneath the handle panel Wind the headlight wire around the lower right handle until excess slack is removed See Figure 4 e Plug the wire from the headlight into the alternator lead coming from the right side of the engine underneath the fuel tank Alternator Lead NOTE Wheels are omitted from illustration for clarity Figure 4 Clean Out Tool e This tool along with the electric cord is fastened with a cable tie to the rear of the auger housing for shipping purposes Cut the cable tie and remove the electric cord before operating the snow thrower SECTION 3 KNOW YOUR SNOW THROWER Drive Control Auger Control Lock Heated Handles Switcht Headlighttt Chute Assembl VS Track Steering Control Auger Drive Control

9. between the friction wheel and the drive plate in all positions of the shift lever e With the drive control engaged the friction wheel must contact the drive plate See Figure 10 If adjustment is necessary Loosen the jam nut on the drive cable Adjust the cable as necessary e Retighten the jam nut to secure the cable when correct adjustment is reached Reassemble the frame cover Gear Shaft Pivot Rod Friction Wheel Rubber Drive Plate Figure 10 NOTE f you placed plastic film under the gas cap be certain to remove it before operating the snow thrower Shift Rod Adjustment To adjust the shift rod proceed as follows e Remove the hairpin clip and slide the shift rod connector up to separate the upper shift rod from the lower shift rod See Figure 11 e Place the shift lever into the sixth 6 position e Rotate the shift arm clockwise from the operator s position as far as it will go e Thread the upper shift rod downward until the elbow on its lower end aligns with the hole found in the lower shift rod Shift Lever Upper Shift Rod Hairpin Clip Lower Shift Rod j Model 1028 Shown ii Shift Arm Figure 11 e Reconnect the upper shift rod to the lower shift rod by reinserting the hairpin clip removed earlier and sliding the shift rod connector back down into place IMPORTANT Make certain to check for correct adjustment of the shift rod as instructed under Final Adjustment

13. the Auger Control and the Drive Auger Control Lock e Stop the engine by moving the throttle to the stop position Remove the clean out tool from the mounting clip e Use the shovel shaped end of the clean out tool to dislodge and scoop any snow and ice which has formed in and near the chute assembly A e Refasten the clean out tool to the mounting clip on the rear of the auger housing reinsert the ignition key and start the snow thrower s engine e While standing in the operator s position behind the snow thrower engage the auger control for a WARNING Never use your hands to clean snow and ice from the chute assembly or auger housing Use the clean out tool or a stick to unclog few seconds to clear any remaining snow and ice from the chute assembly Drift Cutters it Equipped Drift cutters should be used when operating the snow thrower in heavy drift conditions On models so equipped drift cutters are assembled to the auger housing inverted Remove the carriage bolts by unthreading the hex nuts which secure them and reinstall the drift cutters in their proper position before operating the snow thrower See Figure 8 If your unit is not equipped with drift cutters contact Customer Support as instructed on page 2 for information regarding price and availability Snow Thrower Model Drift Cutter Kit All models OEM 390 679 Carriage Scre amp Hex Nuts Figure 8 Operating Tips NOTE Allow the en

E Do not lose ignition key Keep it in a safe place Engine will not start without ignition key e Wipe all snow and moisture from the carburetor cover in the area of the control levers Also move control levers back and forth several times 10 Engage Track Drive With the engine running near top speed move the shift lever into one of the six FORWARD positions or two REVERSE positions Select a speed appropriate for the snow conditions that exist e Squeeze the auger control and the augers will turn Release it and the augers will stop e Squeeze drive control and the snow thrower will move Release it and drive motion will stop IMPORTANT NEVER move shift lever without releasing the drive control Doing so will cause premature wear on the drive system s friction wheel To Engage Augers e To engage the augers and start throwing snow squeeze the auger control against the left handle e To disengage power to the augers release both the auger control and the drive control if engaged The auger control can be locked so you can turn the chute directional control without interrupting the snow throwing process Auger Control Test IMPORTANT Perform the following test before operating your snow thrower for the first time and at the start of each winter season Check the adjustment of the auger control as follows When the auger control is released and in the disengaged up position the cable should have very little

40. o unclog Heated Handles Switch Model 1028 This switch is located on the right side of the snow thrower dash panel To activate the heated handles toggle the switch to the right to generate heat within the handle grips Toggle the switch to the left to the OFF position after using the snow thrower See Figure 5 NOTE The heated handles grips are a compliment to not a substitute for proper cold weather outerwear for the operator s hands It is recommended that the snow thrower operator wear gloves mittens to avoid extremities of winter while operating this equipment Track Steering Controls The left and right track steering controls are located on the underside of the handles and they are used to assist in steering the snow thrower Squeeze the right track control when turning right squeeze the left control when turning left Operate your snow thrower in open areas until you become familiar with these controls See Figure 5 NOTE lt is easier to maneuver a non running snow thrower with both track steering controls held in simultaneously Throttle Control The throttle control is located on the engine It regulates the speed of the engine and will shut off the engine when pushed down completely See Figure 5 Fuel Shut Off Valve Optional Equipment On models so equipped the fuel shut off valve located under fuel tank controls fuel flow from the fuel tank to the engine See Figure 5 Safety Ignition Key The safet

43. peration or while performing any adjustments or repairs Lubrication Engine Refer to the separate engine manual packed with your unit for all engine lubrication instructions WARNING If any adjustments need to be A made to the engine while the engine is running e g carburetor keep clear of all moving parts Be careful of muffler engine and other surrounding heated surfaces Drive Auger Control Lock The cams on the ends of the control rods which interlock the drive and auger controls must be lubricated at least once a season or every 25 hours of operation The cams can be accessed beneath the handle panel Use a multi purpose automotive grease See Figure 13 Handle Panel Figure 13 Gear Case The gear case is lubricated with grease at the factory and it does not require checking If disassembled for any reason lubricate with 2 ounces of Shell Alvania grease EPROO part number 737 0168 Before reassembling remove old sealant and apply new sealant See Figure 14 Shear Pin Bearings Model 1130 Shown Bearing Figure 14 To check the level of grease in the gear case remove the vent plug On Model 1028 only you may if necessary add grease using a grease gun and the grease fitting on the side of the gear case IMPORTANT Do not overfill the gear case since damage to the seals could result Be sure the vent plug is free of grease in order to relieve pressure
44. primer button when pushing Additional priming may be necessary for first start if temperature is below 15 F e Grasp starter handle and pull rope out slowly until it pulls slightly harder Let rope rewind slowly e Pull starter handle rapidly Do not allow handle to snap back Allow it to rewind slowly while keeping a firm hold on the starter handle e Repeat the previous steps until engine starts e s engine warms up rotate choke knob slowly to OFF position If engine falters return to FULL choke then slowly move to OFF position To Stop Engine Run engine for a few minutes before stopping to help dry off any moisture on the engine e To help prevent possible freeze up of starter proceed as follows Electric Starter e Connect power cord to switch box on engine then to 120 volt AC receptacle With the engine running push starter button and spin the starter for several seconds The unusual sound made by spinning the starter will not harm engine or starter Disconnect the power cord from receptacle first and then from switch box Recoil Starter With engine running pull starter rope with a rapid continuous full arm stroke three or four times Pulling the starter rope will produce a loud clattering sound which is not harmful to the engine or starter e To stop engine move throttle control to stop or off position e Remove ignition key DO NOT turn key to prevent unauthorized use of equipment NOT
45. s in the Assembly Section before operating the snow thrower Skid Shoes The space between the shave plate and the ground can be adjusted See Figure 12 e For close snow removal on a smooth surface raise skid shoes higher on the auger housing e Use a middle or lower position when the area to be cleared is uneven Carriage Bolt Flange Lock Nut Skid Shoe Figure 12 WARNING Do not operate this snow A thrower on gravel as loose gravel can be easily picked up and thrown by the auger causing injury to the operator and or damage to the snow thrower e Adjust skid shoes by loosening the flange lock nuts and carriage bolts Move skid shoes to desired position Make certain the entire bottom surface of skid shoe is against the ground to avoid uneven wear on the skid shoes Retighten nuts and bolts securely Repeat on the other side of the snow thrower Carburetor e Minor carburetor adjustment may be required to compensate for differences in fuel temperature altitude and load e Refer to the separate engine manual packed with your unit for carburetor adjustment information SECTION 6 MAINTAINING YOUR SNOW THROWER WARNING Before lubricating repairing A or inspecting disengage all clutch levers and stop engine Wait until all moving parts have come to a complete stop Disconnect spark plug wire and ground it against the engine to prevent unintended starting Always wear safety glasses during o
46. slack It should NOT be tight e In a well ventilated area start the snow thrower engine as instructed earlier in this section under the heading Starting Engine Make sure the throttle is set in the FAST position e While standing in the operator s position behind the snow thrower engage the auger e Allow the auger to remain engaged for approximately ten 10 seconds before releasing the auger control Repeat this several times e With the engine running in the FAST position and the auger control in the disengaged up position walk to the front of the machine e Confirm that the auger has completely stopped rotating and shows NO signs of motion IMPORTANT If the auger shows ANY signs of rotating immediately return to the operator s position and shut off the engine Wait for ALL moving parts to stop before re adjusting the auger control e To readjust the control cable loosen the hex jam nut on the auger control cable Z fitting e Rotate the coupling end of the cable counterclockwise to provide more slack e Retighten the hex jam nut See Figure 7 e Repeat Auger Control Test to verify proper adjustment has been achieved Figure 7 Clean Out Tool The clean out tool is conveniently fastened to the rear of the auger housing with a mounting clip Should snow and ice lodge itself in the chute assembly during operation proceed as follows to safely clean the chute and chute opening Release both

50. ws With the engine off move the shift lever all the way forward to the highest speed With the drive control lever released push the snow thrower forward The unit should roll forward Then engage the drive control The wheels should stop turning Now release the drive control and push the unit again e Move the shift lever back to the fast reverse position then all the way forward again There should be no resistance in the shift lever and the wheels should keep turning e Ifyou have resistance when moving the shift lever or the wheels stop when they should not loosen the jam nut on the drive control cable and unthread the cable one turn e If the wheels do not stop when you engage the drive control loosen the jam nut on the drive control cable and thread the cable in one turn e Recheck the adjustment and repeat as necessary Tighten the jam nut to secure the cable when correct adjustment is reached WARNING Drain the gasoline out of the snow thrower s tank or place a piece of plastic film under the gas cap to avoid spillage BEFORE making the adjustment To test further for correct adjustment if necessary proceed as follows e Tip the snow thrower forward allowing it to rest on the auger housing See Figure 9 Frame Cover Auger Housing Figure 9 e Remove the frame cover underneath the snow thrower by removing the six self tapping screws With the drive control released there must be clearance
