1. 16 THE MAIN FAN OVEN USES OF THE MAIN FAN OVEN PREHEATING The main fan oven quickly reaches its temperature so it is not usually necessary to preheat the oven Without preheating however you may find you need to add an extra 5 10 minutes on the recommended cooking times For recipes needing high temperatures e g bread pastries scones souffl s etc best results are achieved if the oven is preheated first For best results when cooking frozen or cooked chilled ready meals always preheat the oven first COOKING TEMPERATURES Fan oven cooking generally requires lower temperatures than conventional cooking Follow the temperatures recommended the chart on page 19 As a guide reduce temperatures by about 20 C 25 for your own recipes using a conventional oven BATCH BAKING The main fan oven cooks evenly on both shelf levels especially useful when batch baking SELECTING THE FAN OVEN FAN OVEN TOP OVEN GRILL SIMMER oor EPA DOUBLE OVEN AND GRILL Turn the main fan oven temperature control to TO FIT THE OVEN SHELVES the required setting The shelves should be fitted with the straight rods uppermost on the frame and the forms towards the THINGS TO NOTE back of the oven If not fitted correctly the anti tilt and safety stop mechanism will be affected The main fan oven indicator neon will glow until the oven has reached the desired temperature and then go out It will turn O

3. 15 minutes at 220 C to burn off any residue from their surfaces The procedure should be repeated with the grill for approximately 5 10 minutes During this period an odour may be emitted it is therefore advisable to open a window for ventilation CONTROL PANEL INDICATOR NEONS These lights indicate whether the ovens are switched on The neons also indicate when the set temperature has been reached They will turn on and off during use to show that the temperature is being maintained If the neons do not operate as the instructions indicate the controls have been incorrectly set Return all controls to zero and re set following the instructions for the required setting ABOUT CONDENSATION AND STEAM When food is heated it produces steam similar to a boiling kettle The oven is vented to allow some of this steam to escape However always stand back from the appliance when opening the oven door to allow any build up of steam or heat to release If the steam comes into contact with a cool surface on the outside of the appliance e g a trim it will condense and produce water droplets This is quite normal and is not caused by a fault on the appliance To prevent discolouration regularly wipe away condensation and also soilage from surfaces THE COOLING FAN FOR THE CONTROLS The cooling fan will always come on when the grill and the top oven are switched on If they are only used for a short period of time the fan will

6. 4 Always place plates on the oven shelf to warm Never place dishes directly on the top oven base as it becomes very hot and damage may occur 15 HINTS AND TIPS e All cooking should be carried out using an oven shelf positioned in one of the shelf runners Stand dishes on a suitablv sized baking trav on the shelf to prevent spillage onto the oven base and to help reduce cleaning The material and finish of the baking travs and dishes will affect the degree of base browning of the food Enamelware dark heavv or non stick utensils increase base browning Shiny aluminium or polished steel trays reflect the heat away and give less base browning DO NOT use the grill pan as a baking tray as this will increase base browning of the food Because of the smaller cooking space lower temperatures and shorter cooking times are sometimes required Be guided by the recommendations on page 19 For economy leave the door open for the shortest possible time particularly when placing food into a pre heated oven There should always be at least 2 5cm 1 between the top of the food and the element This gives best cooking results and allows room for rise in yeast mixtures Yorkshire puddings etc When cooking cakes pastry scones bread etc place the tins or baking trays centrally on the shelf directly below the element DO NOT place dishes directly onto the oven base as it becomes very hot and damage may occur

10. order to maintain the appearance of your appliance s sealed hotplates and trims you are advised to use the recommended cleaning agents daily If you do not allow spillages to burn on they will be much easier to clean off 22 THINGS TO NOTE The red spot in the centre of the hotplates may be removed with some abrasive cleaning agents This is not a fault and does not affect the performance of the hotplates FOR NORMAL SOILAGE Wipe over the hotplates and trims using a clean damp cloth then switch to a low or medium setting for a few minutes to thoroughly dry FOR HEAVY SOILAGE Use a clean damp cloth or scourer with a cream cleaner e g Cif or a powder cleaner e g Ajax on the hotplate and trims Follow the circular grooved pattern on the hotplate when cleaning Rinse off cleaning agents thoroughly Dry as for normal soilage For more stubborn marks warm the hotplate on a low setting for 30 seconds Clean the sealed plate with Ajax powder cleaner Cif cream cleaner or a Brillo pad You may have to rub hard for several minutes Rinse off cleaning agents thoroughly with a damp cloth Switch to a low or medium setting for a few minutes until the hotplate is thoroughly dry CLEANING THE HOTPLATE TRIMS The stainless steel trims may become straw coloured during use Using a proprietary stainless steel cleaner e g Shiny Sinks will help maintain a bright appearance Alternatively a powder cleaner such as Bar

Keepers Friend may be used regularly CLEANING THE VITREOUS ENAMEL Use a clean damp cloth or scourer made for non stick saucepans with Cif cream cleaner AFTER CLEANING To maintain the appearance of the hotplates occasionally apply a little salt free vegetable oil or commercial restorative agent To apply vegetable oil first heat the hotplate on a medium setting for 30 seconds then turn OFF Pour a very small amount of oil onto kitchen paper apply the paper to the hotplate and wipe off any excess oil Heat the hotplate on a medium setting for 1 minute To apply restorative agent apply a thin coating of 4 Hob or use a Minky Hotplate Cleaning Cloth following the manufacturers instructions CLEANING THE GRILL AND OVEN FURNITURE All removable parts except the grill pan handle can be washed in the dishwasher The grill pan may be cleaned using a soap impregnated steel wool pad The grill pan grid and oven shelves should be cleaned using hot soapy water Soaking first in soapy water will make cleaning easier CLEANING INSIDE THE OVEN GRILL COMPARTMENTS The vitreous enamel coating in the fan oven top oven and grill compartment can be cleaned using normal oven cleaners or aerosol oven cleaners with care Ensure that the manufacturers instructions are followed and that all parts are well rinsed afterwards CARE OF STAYCLEAN SURFACES The back panel of the fan oven is coated with a Stayclean finish This sho

N TOP OVEN GRILL DOUBLE OVEN AND GRILL To operate the hotplates turn the control knobs either direction to vary the heat setting e The highest number represents the hottest setting and the lowest number represents the coolest setting Choose a setting appropriate to the quantity and type of food to be cooked RECOMMENDED SAUCEPANS For speed and economy only good quality saucepans with flat bases and close fitting lids recommended To check the flatness of the saucepan place a ruler across the pan base hold at eye level and look for light showing There should be very little or no light visible between the ruler and the pan base X The size of the base of the saucepan should be the same or up to 2 5cm 1 inch larger than the hotplate If the base is too small energy will be wasted boilovers will also be more difficult to deal with as spillage will fall directly onto the hotplate Pressure cookers preserving pans etc should comply with the recommendations given above Traditional round bottomed Woks must not be used even with a stand Woks with flat bottomed bases are available and do comply with the above recommendations 11 HINTS AND TIPS e Lift rather than slide saucepans on and off the hob to help reduce scratches and maintain the efficiency of the hotplates fii dd ELA X 011 M jm 7 NA Avoid the use of decorative covers a

N and OFF periodically during Back of the Oven cooking showing that the temperature is being maintained p Straight Rods 17 HINTS AND TIPS e Arrange the shelves in the required positions before switching the oven ON Shelf positions are numbered from the bottom upwards When cooking more than one dish in the fan oven place dishes centrally on different shelves rather than cluster several dishes on one shelf this will allow the heat to circulate freely for the best cooking results When batch baking one type of food e g Victoria sandwich cakes those of similar size will be cooked in the same time e t is recommended that when baking larger quantities the shelf positions should be evenly spaced to suit the load being cooked A slight increase in cooking time may be necessary DO NOT place baking trays directly on the oven floor as it interferes with the oven air circulation and can lead to base burning use the lower shelf position e The use of excessively high temperatures can cause uneven browning It may be necessary to reduce temperatures slightly Refer to the recommendations given in the oven cooking chart on page 19 The oven temperatures are intended as a guide only It may be necessary to increase or decrease the temperature by 10 C to suit individual preferences and requirements FAN OVEN FOOD SHELF COOKING APPROXIMATE POSITION TEMP C COOK TIME m Biscuits 1

S OF THE TOP OVEN The top oven is the smaller of the two ovens It is heated by elements in the top and bottom of the oven It is designed for cooking on one level and for smaller quantities of food It gives especially good results if used to cook fruit cakes sweet or savoury flans or quiche The top oven is also ideal for use as a warming compartment to warm dishes and keep food hot Use a temperature setting of 90 C 100 C on the top oven control dial SELECTING THE TOP OVEN SIMMER FAN OVEN TOP OVEN GRILL voueoven DOUBLE OVEN AND GRILL To operate the top oven turn the temperature TO FIT THE TOP OVEN SHELF control to the required setting Our diagram shows the oven set to 150 C Close the oven The shelf should be fitted with the straight rods door uppermost on the frame and the forms towards the back of the oven If not fitted correctly the anti tilt THINGS TO NOTE and safety stop mechanism will be affected 1 The grill cannot be operated when the top oven is in use Only the outer part of the top oven Back of the Oven element in conjunction with the base element will operate when using the top oven Be 2 The top oven indicator neon will glow until the oven has reached the desired temperature and then go out It will then turn ON and OFF showing that the oven temperature is being maintained Straight Rods 3 The cooling fan will operate For more details about the cooling fan see page 9

TOP OVEN WILL OPERATE e f the grill door is accidentally closed during grilling the grill will cut out and the top oven will operate e The cooling fan will operate For more details about the cooling fan see page 9 Some smoke from fat splashes may be evident as the grill cleans itself The top oven cannot be operated when the grill is in use Only the inner element will operate when grilling 13 THE GRILL PAN AND HANDLE The grill pan is supplied with a removable handle To insert the handle press the button on the handle with the thumb and pivot the handle slightly upwards inserting the lip into the widest part of the bracket Move the handle towards the left lower into position and release the button Ensure the handle is positively located When removing the handle press the button on the handle with the thumb and pivot the handle slightly upwards and towards the right to remove from the bracket Ensure your hand is protected when removing the grill pan handle as the grill element can become very hot ALWAYS REMOVE THE GRILL PAN HANDLE DURING GRILLING To correctiv locate the grill pan on the shelf ensure hat kecut ot dba handle Preheat the grill on a full setting for a few minutes before sealing steaks or toasting Adjust the heat setting and the shelf as necessary during cooking bracket locates over the front bar of the shelf The food shoul

23. l For safety purposes fill the pan only one third full of oil 3 Testing the temperature of the oil It is advisable to use a thermometer to test the temperature of the oil Alternatively drop a small cube of bread into the oil which should brown in just under a minute if the oil is at the correct temperature of 190 C 375 F 4 Cooking the food Lower the food gently into the oil Do Not add too much food at once or the temperature of the oil will be reduced and may result in soggy greasy food Turn the food if necessary doughnuts float to the surface so will not brown on the upperside if not turned Once cooked drain the food on absorbent paper 5 Double frying chips Double frying will ensure good chips First fry the chips for a few minutes at 170 C 340 F to seal the outside Remove the chips from the oil Increase the temperature of the oil to 190 C 375 F to finish cooking and brown the chips Chips may be kept for several hours after the first frying before finishing off with the second frying 12 PRESERVING 1 DONOT use a pan that overlaps the perimeter of the hob trim 2 To allow for a full rolling boil the pan should be no more than one third full when all the ingredients have been added It is better to use two pans rather than overfill one or use half quantities 3 Use firm fruit or vegetables and wash well before using 4 Preserving sugar gives clear jam however granulated sugar

25. oil is there to help keep the door cool if it is damaged it will not work Ensure that all parts are well rinsed and thoroughly dried before attempting to replace the outer door TO REPLACE THE OUTER GLASS 1 Holding the oven glass with both hands gently place the locators into the holes of the brackets at the bottom of the oven door 2 Push the top of the oven glass towards the oven door ensuring the screw location holes line up 3 Hold the glass in place with one hand and insert the cross head screws into the location holes with the other hand Give the screws one turn to ensure the glass is secure 4 Tighten the screws positivelv with a Pozidrive screwdriver before closing the oven door Do not attempt to use the oven without the glass being in place If the door glass panel becomes chipped or has deep scratches the glass will be weakened and must be replaced to prevent the possibilitv of the panel shattering Please contact vour local Service Force Centre who will be pleased to advise further TO CLEAN THE INNER GLASS DOOR PANELS Clean the inner glass door panels using a soft cloth and hot water to which a little washing up liquid has been added If the inner panel is heavily soiled Hob Brite mav be used Do not use abrasive cleaning materials on the door glass Ensure that all parts are well rinsed and thoroughiv dried before attempting to replace the glass We strongly recommend that you carry out the follo

33. uld not be cleaned manually Aerosol cleaners must not be used on Stayclean surfaces and must not come into contact with elements or the door seal as this may cause damage During normal use the Stayclean coating will become splashed with fats and food residues By running the oven without food the Stayclean surfaces burn off any soilage CLEANING THE DOOR GLASS To prevent damaging or weakening of the door glass panels avoid the use of the following e Household detergents and bleaches e impregnated pads unsuitable for non stick saucepans e Brillo Ajax pads or steel wool pads e Chemical oven pads or aerosols e Rust removers e Bath Sink stain removers CLEANING BETWEEN THE OUTER AND INNER DOOR GLASS The outer door glass is removable for cleaning TO REMOVE THE OUTER GLASS 1 Open the oven door slightly to gain access to the two cross head screws on the top of the oven door 2 Loosen the two screws using a Pozidrive screwdriver 3 Hold the door glass securely in place with one hand before removing the screws completely with the other hand 4 Using both hands gently tilt the top of the door glass towards you lift slightly to disengage the locators from the two bottom brackets 5 Clean the outer and inner glass using hot soapy water or Hob Brite cleaner may be used with care DO NOT use Hob Brite on the Stainless Steel or painted finishes DO NOT try to clean the foil which is inside the door The f
