Be sure to adjust left and right return springs equally TENSION ADJUSTING FIGURE 4 1a 4 1 3 Tracking Adjustments When both motion control levers are fully engaged in forward drive the machine should move in a straight line If the machine tracks veers left or right a tracking adjustment must be made Each motion control lever is equipped with a tracking adjustment plate See Figure 4 1b Moving the plate forward or backward adjusts the machine s tracking 1 If mower tracks to the left loosen the two torx screws on the left adjustment plate slide plate forward approximately 1 8 and retighten screws If plate is already as far forward as it can go loosen the right plate and slide back 1 8 Check machine tracking and repeat as needed 2 If mower tracks to the right loosen the two torx screws on the right adjustment plate slide plate forward approximately 1 8 and retighten screws If plate is already as far forward as it can go loosen the left plate and slide back 1 8 Check machine tracking and repeat as needed 3 In cases of severe tracking one plate may need to be moved fully back and the other moved fully forward FIGURE 4 1b Section 4 ADJUSTMENTS amp REPAIR WARNING A DO NOT attempt any adjustments maintenance service or repairs with the engine running Stop engine Stop blade Engage parking brake Remove key Remove spark plug wire from spark plug and secure away from plug

12. filter 3 Install new fuel filter Reinstall hose clamps See Figure 3 10 17 NEW FUEL FILTER PART NO 1 4359 HOSE CLAMPS FIGURE 3 10 3 5 STORAGE OUT OF SEASON Perform the following procedures to insure the SCRAMBLER will operate properly when taken out of storage 1 Thoroughly clean the SCRAMBLER by removing all grass clippings and debris 2 Perform maintenance and described in the previous sections 3 Drain fuel from fuel tank into an approved container outdoors away from all sources of ignition 4 Start engine and allow it to run until engine runs out of fuel This allows the carburetor and fuel system to remain clean during storage 5 Remove battery Refer to Section BATTERY REMOVAL AND STORAGE 6 Close vent on fuel filler cap and fuel valve in fuel line Remove key lubrication as Section 4 ADJUSTMENTS amp REPAIR WARNING A DO NOT attempt any adjustments maintenance service or repairs with the engine running Stop engine Stop blade Engage parking brake Remove key Remove spark plug wire from spark plug and secure away from plug Engine and components are HOT Avoid serious burns allow all parts to cool before working on machine Fuel Filler Cap and Vent must be closed securely to prevent fuel spillage 4 1 MOTION CONTROL ADJUSTMENTS 4 1 1 Neutral Adjustments When the machine is on a flat level surface and motion control levers are in their neutral or neutral lock positio
13. produces a highly explosive gas Keep all sparks flame and fire away from area when charging battery or when handling electrolyte or battery Electrolyte acid is a highly corrosive liquid Wear eye protection Wash affected areas immediately after having eye or skin contact with electrolyte acid Battery acid is corrosive Rinse empty acid containers with water and mutilate before discarding If acid is spilled on battery bench or clothing etc Flush with clear water and neutralize with baking soda DO NOT attempt to charge battery while installed on the SCRAMBLER DO NOT use BOOST chargers on the battery If battery is removed DO NOT operate engine without insulating Positive battery cable terminal with electrical tape or sparking from the battery cables can result 4 6 4 BATTERY STORAGE lf SCRAMBLER is to be stored out of season on its rear bumper it is recommended the battery be removed charged and stored 1 Remove battery Refer to Section BATTERY REMOVAL 2 Perform battery service 3 Bring battery to full charge if required 4 Store battery in an area away from the SCRAMBLER on a wood surface DO NOT STORE BATTERY ON A CONCRETE SURFACE 4 6 5 BATTERY TESTING There are two types of battery tests Unloaded and Loaded unloaded test is the procedure that will be discussed It s the simplest and most commonly used An unloaded test is made on a battery without discharging current To perf
14. 38 Decks ADJUSTING NUT 3 4 3 5 BLADE BRAKE ADJUSTMENT The SNAPPER SCRAMBLER is equipped with an electric clutch brake that should stop blade rotation in 5 seconds or less after being turned off If blades continue to rotate longer than 5 seconds adjustment or replacement is required When properly adjusted a 010 to 012 feeler gauge will fit thru the three inspection slots located on the side of the clutch as shown See Figure 4 5 Excessive clearance can adversely affect the function of the clutch and produce blade stop times over 5 seconds To adjust turn the three adjusting nuts clockwise to reduce clearance The clearance at each of the three slots must be set the same l INSPECTION SLOT 3 IDLER ARM AND BELT GUIDE DETAIL FIGURE 4 5 A WARNING A TAB MUST GO Blades must stop rotating in 5 seconds or less after INTO HOLE blades have been turned off DO NOT operate machine until blade brake has been adjusted or repaired and is functioning properly Contact your C SNAPPER dealer for assistance a LOCATOR MOWER e TAB 4 3 6 CHECKING MOWER BLADE BELT STRAIGHTNESS The straightness of the mower blade s is essential for smooth even mowing Check blade straightness as follows NOTE Follow Steps 1 e thru 4 for all deck sizes 1 Close vent on fuel cap and make sure cap is POS S e tight Figure 2 2 2 Remove key from ignition switch Engage E 2 mm parking brake gt

APPER dealer for assistance TO START BLADES MOVE ENGINE SPEED CONTROL TO FAST DETENT THEN PULL TO STOP BLADES PUSH BLADE SWITCH IN FIGURE 2 10 Section 2 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 2 5 SAFETY INTERLOCK SYSTEM CHECKS This machine is equipped with an electrical safety interlock system that is provided for the safety of the operator and others All safety devices must be in place and functioning properly before operating the machine Perform the following interlock system checks periodically during the operating season Contact your authorized Snapper dealer if you have questions A WARNING A DO NOT operate machine if any safety interlock or safety device is not in place and functioning properly DO NOT attempt to defeat modify or remove any safety device ENGINE MUST NOT START IF 1 Parking Brake is not engaged OR 2 Blade Switch is pulled out to its on Il position OR 3 Either or both Motion Control Levers are not in their neutral lock positions ENGINE SHOULD START IF 1 Park Brake is engaged AND 2 Blade Switch is pushed in to its off 0 position AND 3 Motion Control Levers are in their neutral lock positions ENGINE MUST BEGIN TO STOP IF 1 Operator rises off of seat with Blade Switch in ON blades engaged position 2 Operator rises off of seat with Park Brake not in engaged position 3 Operator rises off of seat with either or both Motion Control Levers removed from the

23. arge opening at all times Start engine from operator s seat if possible Make sure blades are OFF and parking brake is set DO NOT leave machine with engine running STOP engine STOP blades SET brake and Remove key before leaving operators position of any reason DO NOT operate machine unless properly seated with feet on feet rests or pedal s STOP BLADES and ENGINE and make sure blades have stopped before removing grass catcher or unclogging mower to prevent loss of fingers or hand Blades must be OFF except when cutting grass Set blades in highest position when mowing over rough ground Keep hands and feet away from rotating blades underneath deck DO NOT place foot on ground while BLADES are ON or machine is in motion DO NOT operate machine without entire grass catcher or guards in place and working DO NOT point discharge at people passing cars windows or doors Slow down before turning Watch out for traffic when near or crossing roadways STOP engine immediately after striking an obstruction Inspect machine repair damage before resuming operation Operate machine only in daylight or with good artificial light Move joystick if equipped SLOWLY to maintain control during speed and directional changes Exercise CAUTION when pulling loads Limit loads to those you can safely control and attach loads to hitch plate as specified with SNAPPER attachment instructions On slopes the weight of the towed
