A moment after the button is pressed the tread mill will automatically adjust to the first speed and incline settings of the program Hold the handrails and begin walking Each heart rate program is divided into 20 one minute segments One target heart rate is pro grammed for each segment Note The same tar get heart rate setting may be programmed for two or more consecutive segments The target heart rate setting for the first seg ment will be shown in the flashing Current Segment column of the matrix The target heart rate settings for the next four segments will be shown in the columns to the right Current Segment When only three seconds remain in the first seg ment of the program both the Current Segment column and the column to the right will flash and a series of tones will sound In addition the speed setting and the incline setting will flash in the dis play to alert you When the first segment ends al target heart rate settings will move one column to the left The target heart rate setting for the sec ond segment will then be shown in the flashing Current Segment column During each segment the console will compare your heart rate to the target heart rate If your heart rate is too far below or above the target heart rate the speed of the walking belt will auto matically increase or decrease to bring your heart rate closer to the target heart rate If the speed reaches the maximum speed

After warming up increase the intensity of your exercise until your pulse is in your training zone for 20 to 60 minutes During the first few weeks of your exercise program do not keep your pulse in your training zone for longer than 20 minutes Breathe regularly and deeply as you exercise never hold your breath A Cool down Finish each workout with 5 to 10 min utes of stretching to cool down This will increase the flexibility of your muscles and will help prevent post exercise problems EXERCISE FREQUENCY To maintain or improve your condition complete three workouts each week with at least one day of rest be tween workouts After a few months you may com plete up to five workouts each week if desired The key to success is to make exercise a regular and enjoyable part of your everyday life SUGGESTED STRETCHES The correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right Move slowly as you stretch never bounce 1 Toe Touch Stretch Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible Hold for 15 counts then relax Repeat 3 times Stretches Hamstrings back of knees and back 2 Hamstring Stretch Sit with one leg extended Bring the sole of the opposite foot toward you and rest it against the inner thigh of your extended leg Reach toward your toes as far as possible Hold for 15 counts then

9. this or any exercise program consult your physi cian This is especially important for individu als over the age of 35 or individuals with pre existing health problems The pulse sensor is not a medical device Various factors including your movement may affect the accuracy of heart rate readings The sensor is intended only as an exercise aid in determining heart rate trends in general The following guidelines will help you to plan your ex ercise program For more detailed exercise informa tion obtain a reputable book or consult your physician EXERCISE INTENSITY Whether your goal is to burn fat or to strengthen your cardiovascular system the key to achieving the desired results is to exercise with the proper intensity The proper intensity level can be found by using your heart rate as a guide The chart below shows recom mended heart rates for fat burning and aerobic exercise HEART RATE TRAINING ZONES AEROBIC MAX FAT BURN 165 155 145 140 130 125 115 145 138 130 125 118 110 103 125 120 115 110 105 95 90 Age 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 FAT BURN To find the proper heart rate for you first find your age near the bottom of the chart ages are rounded off to the nearest ten years Next find the three numbers above your age The three numbers define your train ing zone The lower two numbers are recommended heart rates for fat buming the higher number is the recommended heart rate for aerobic exercis
10. walking belt at any time press the Stop button on the console The time will begin to flash in the display To restart the program press the Start button or the Speed button After a mo ment the walking belt will begin to move at 1 0 mph When the next chirp is heard the speed and incline will change to the next settings of the program When the program is completed the walking belt will stop Note To use another program press the Stop button and go to step 5 Note If the speed and or incline of the treadmill does not change when a chirp is heard make sure that the letters iFIT appear in the display and that the time is not flashing in the display In addition make sure that the audio cabie is properly connected 8 Follow your progress with the display See step 5 on page 10 When you are finished exercising remove the key from the console See step 7 on page 13 THE INFORMATION MODE DEMO MODE The console features an information mode that keeps track of the total number of hours that the treadmill has been operated and the total number of miles that the walking belt has moved The information mode also al lows you to select miles or kilometers as the unit of measurement and to turn on and turn off the demo mode To select the information mode hold down the Stop button while inserting the key into the console When the information mode is selected the following informa tion will be shown in
11. will show which program P1 or P2 is selected When a preset program is selecied the matrix in the lower part of the display will show the first seven target heart rate settings of the program Note During heart rate program 1 your heart rate will reach approximately 85 of your estimated maximum heart rate During heart rate program 2 your heart rate will reach approximately 80 of your estimated maximum heart rate Note Your maximum heart rate is estimated by subtracting your age from 220 For example if you are 30 years old your estimated maximum heart rate is 190 beats per minute 220 30 190 Enter your age When a heart rate pro gram is selected the word AGE will appear in the display and the cal en current age setting will begin to flash If you have already entered your age simply press the Start button the program will not start at this time If you have not entered your age press the Set Pulse Rate buttons to enter your age and then press the Start button 3 ABE Enter a maximum speed setting After you have entered your age the letters SPd will appear in the display and the maxi mum speed setting of the program will begin to flash If desired press the Set Pulse Rate buttons to change the maximum speed setting and then press the Start button the program will not start at this time Press the Start button or the Speed button to start the program

PROGRAMS i FAN J a FEES IA QUICK SPEED gt a Note If there is a thin sheet of plastic on the face of the console remove it FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE The treadmill console offers an impressive array of features designed to help you get the most from your workouts When the manual mode of the console is selected the speed and incline of the treadmill can be changed with the touch of a button As you exercise the console will display continuous exercise feedback You can even measure your heart rate using the built in handgrip pulse sensor or the optional chest pulse sensor see page 20 In addition the console features six preset programs Each program automatically controls the speed and in cline of the treadmill to give you an effective workout The console also offers two heart rate programs that control the speed and incline of the treadmill to keep your heart rate near a target heart rate during your workouts Note You must wear the optional chest pulse sensor to use the heart rate programs The console also features iFIT com interactive technol ogy Having iFIT com technology is like having a per sonal trainer in your home Using a stereo audio cable you can connect the treadmill to your portabl

16. display To restart the walking belt press the Start button the Speed button or one of the Quick Speed buttons Note The first time the treadmill is used observe the alignment of the walking belt and align the walking belt if necessary see page 23 Change the incline of the treadmill as desired To change the incline of the treadmill press the Incline increase and de crease buttons Each TIME 355 time a button is pressed the incline will change by 0 5 Note After the buttons are pressed it may take a moment for the treadmill to reach the se lected incline setting INCLINE P 4 4 Follow your progress with the display When the manual mode or the IFIT com mode is se lected the lower part of the display will show a 1 4 mile track As you walk or run the indicators around the track will appear in succession until the entire track appears The track will then disappear and the indicators will again begin to appear in succession The left side of the dis play will show the incline level of the treadmill the 1 elapsed time the ap TIME 85 proximate number of grams of carbs you have burned and the distance you have walked or run Note Each time the incline changes the display will show the incline setting for a few seconds When a program is selected the display will show the time remaining in the program instead of the elapsed time INCLINE P 4 The right side
17. e To measure your heart rate during exercise use the pulse sensor Fat Burning To bum fat effectively you must exercise at a relatively low intensity level for a sustained period of time During the first few minutes of exercise your body uses easily accessible carbohydrate calories for en ergy Only after the first few minutes does your body 24 begin to use stored fat calories for energy If your goal is to burn fat adjust the speed and incline of the tread mill until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone For maximum fat burning adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the middle number in your training zone Aerobic Exercise If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular sys tem your exercise must be aerobic Aerobic exercise is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time This increases the demand on the heart to pump blood to the muscles and on the lungs to oxygenate the blood For aerobic exercise adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone WORKOUT GUIDELINES Each workout should include the following three parts A Warm up Start each workout with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise A proper warm up in creases your body temperature heart rate and circula tion in preparation for exercise Training Zone Exercise
18. e Harness and pulse wire up into the Console Base 5 Set the Console Base 101 on the Uprights 97 Thread the four Upright Bolts 76 with four Internal Star Washers 77 into the Uprights and the Console Base Be careful not to pinch the Wires not shown in the Uprights Tighten the two Upright Bolts indicated by the arrows first then tighten the remaining two Upright Bolts Make sure that the Left and Right Trays 109 111 are pressed into the Console Base 101 6 Fold the treadmill to the storage position see page 21 If the Wheels 94 are resting on the floor or if the tread mill rocks slightly turn one or both of the Leveling Feet 95 under the Uprights 97 until the Wheels are off the floor and the rocking motion is eliminated Note If neces sary tip the treadmill and use a phillips screwdriver to turn the Leveling Feet 7 Make sure that all parts are properly tightened before you use the treadmill Note Extra hardware may be included Keep the included allen wrenches in a secure place The large allen wrench is used to adjust the walking belt see page 23 To protect the floor or carpet place a mat under the treadmill If there are thin sheets of clear plastic on the decals remove them If you purchase the optional chest pulse sensor see page 20 follow the steps below to install the receiver included with the chest pulse sensor 1 Make sure that the power cord is un
