1. Oiling the air filter Always use HUSQVARNA filter oil order no 503 47 13 01 T hefilter oil contains a solvent to make it spread evenly through the filter You should therefore avoid skin contact Put the filter in a plastic bag and the pour the filter oil over it Knead the plastic bag to distribute the oil Squeeze the excess oil out of thefilter insidethe plastic bag and pour off the excess before fitting the filter on the machine N ever use common engine oil T his would drain through the filter quite quickly and collect in the bottom Angle gear T heangle gear is filled with a sufficient quantity of grease at the factory H owever before using the machine you should check that the angle gear is filled to 3 4 with grease Use HUSQVARNA special grease N ormally the grease does not need to be changed except when repairs are carried out Maintenance schedule Below follows some general maintenance instructions If you need further information please contact your service workshop Daily maintenance 1 Clean the outside of the machine 2 M ake surethe throttle trigger lock and the throttle function correctly from a safety point of view 3 Check that the stop switch functions 4 C heck that the cutting head does not rotate while idling 5 Clean the air filter Replace if necessary 6 Check that the guard is undamaged and not cracked Replace the guards If they ha

3. in the direction of rotation Dismantling takes place in the reverse order English 1 5 FUEL HANDLING Fuel mixture Mixture e Always mix petrol and oil in a clean container intended for NOTE petrol The machine is fitted with a two stroke engine and must always be run on a mixture of petrol and two stroke oil It is important to measure the quantity of oil accurately to ensure the correct mixture ratio Small discrepancies in the amount of oil have a great bearing on the proportions of the fuel mixture when mixing small amounts of fuel A Always start by filling half the quantity of petrol required T hen add the entire oil quantity M ix shake the fuel mixture Fill the remaining quantity of petrol Mix shake thefuel mixture carefully before filling in the machine s fuel tank WARNING Always provide good ventilation when handling fuel Do not mix more than max one month s supply of fuel f the machine is not used for a long period of time the fuel tank should be emptied and cleaned A Petrol WARNING The catalytic converter muffler gets very hot during and after use This also applies during idling Be aware of the fire hazard especially when handling the saw near flammable substances or vapours NOTE Always use an oil mixed quality petrol at least 90 octane If your machine is equipped with a catalytic converter see technical data an unleaded oil mixed
4. e g when assembling cutting equipment EAR PROTECTION Ear protection offering sufficient dampening effect should be used EYE PROTECTION Blows from branches or objectsthrown by the rotating cutting equipment can damage the eyes BOOTS Use anti slip and stable boots CLOTHING Wear clothes made of a strong fabric and avoid loose clothing that can catch on shrubs and branches Always wear heavy long pants Do not wear jewelry short pants sandals or go barefoot Secure hair so it is above shoulder level FIRST AID KIT A first aid kit should be carried by operators of clearing saws brushcutters or trimmers 4 English The machine s safety equipment T his section describes the machine s safety equipment its function and how checks and maintenance are carried out to ensure that it operates correctly See the chapter W hat is what to locate where this equipment is positioned on your machine WARNING Never use a machine with defective safety equipment Follow the control maintenance and service instructions described in this section 1 Throttle trigger lock T he throttle trigger lock is designed to prevent the throttle from accidentally being engaged W hen the trigger lock A is pressed into the handle when you hold the handle the throttle B is released W hen the grip on the handle is released the throttle and the throttle trigger lock return to their original positi

6. pain lack of or a reduction in normal strength changes in the colour of the skin or its surfaces These symptoms normally appear in the fingers hands or wrists English 5 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS 6 Cutting equipment 5 Muffler T he muffler is designed to give the lowest possible noise level and to direct the engine s exhaust fumes away from the operator M uffler fitted with catalytic converter is also designed to reduce harmful exhaust components In countries that have a warm and dry climate the risk of fire is obvious We have therefore fitted certain mufflers with a spark arrest screen M ake sure that your muffler is fitted with this kind of screen It is extremely important that the instructions for checking maintaining and servicing the muffler are followed see the section Control maintenance and service of the machine s Safety equipment 1 Grass blades are intended for brush cutting 2 The trimmer head is intended for trimming grass 7 Locking nut A locking nut is used to secure sometypes of cutting equipment on the output shaft WARNING Mufflers fitted with catalytic converters become extremely hot during use and after stopping This also applies at idling speeds Contact can result in burns to the skin Be observant to the risk of fire WARNING Bear in mind that exhaust fumes e contain carbon monoxide which can cause carbon monoxide poisoning Therefore never sta
7. quality petrol should always be used A leaded petrol will destroy the catalytic converter Fuelling WARNING The following precautions reduce the risk of fire Do not smoke or place any sources of heat in the vicinity of the fuel Never refuel when the engine is running Always stop the engine and let it cool for a few minutes before refuelling Open the fuel cap slowly when fuelling so that any over pressure is released slowly Tighten the fuel cap carefully after refuelling Always move the machine from the fuelling place before starting The lowest recommended octane rating is 90 If you run the engine on a petrol with a lower octane rating than 90 so called knocking can occur T his leads to an increased engine temperature which can result in a serious engine breakdown Clean around the fuel cap Contamination in the tank can disrupt operations W hen working at continuous high revs a higher octane rating is recommended O e Ensure that the fuel is well mixed by shaking the container before filling the Two stroke oil tank For the best results use H U SQ VARN A two stroke oil which has been specially produced for clearing saws and chain saws M ixing ratio 1 50 2 v fa le If HUSQVARNA two stroke oil is not available you can use son IU UM a high quality two stroke oil intended for air cooled engines ii Lit Contact your dealer when selecting a
8. section K on the cover 1 by pressing the two sections together with the cut outs on the bottom section aligned with the catches on the cover e To dismantle follow the instructions in the reverse order ASSEMBLY Assembling the blade guard and grass blade The guard A is fitted using 4 screws L and the support plate M as set out in the diagram NOTE Usethe recommended blade guard Fit the drive disc B on the output axle T urn the blade axle until one of the holes in the drive disc aligns with the hole in the gear housing Insert the locking pin C in the hole so that the axle is locked Place the blade D support cup E and support flange F on the output axle Fit thenut G The tightening torque of the nut is 35 50 Nm 3 5 5 kpm Use the socket spanner in the tool kit H old the handle of the spanner as close to the blade guard as possible Thenut istightened when the spanner is turned against the direction of rotation left hand thread Assembling other guards and cutting equipment Fit the guard A intended for use with the trimmer head Secure using four bolts L and the support plate M as shown in the diagram Fit the disc drive B on the output axle Turn the blade axle until one of the disc drive s holes aligns with the corresponding hole in the gear housing Insert the locking pin C into the holeto lock the axle Screw on the trimmer head H

14. adjusted or repaired Fine adjustment When the machine has been run in the carburettor should be finely adjusted T he fine adjustment should be carried out by qualified person First adjust the L jet then the idling screw T and then theH jet Conditions Before any adjustments are made the airfilter should be clean and the airfilter cover fitted Adjusting the carburettor while a dirty airfilter is in use will result in a leaner mixture when the filter is finally cleaned T his can give rise to serious engine damage e Carefully turn the L and H needle to the mid point between fully turned in and fully turned out Do not attempt to adjust the needles beyond the stops as damage can occur e Now start the machine according to the starting instructions and run it warm for 10 minutes NOTE If the cutting attachment rotates movestheT screw should be turned anti clockwise until the cutting attachment stops Low speed needle L Try to find the highest idling speed turning the low speed needle L clockwise respectively counter clockwise W hen the highest speed has been found turn the low speed needle L 1 4 turn counter clockwise NOTE If the cutting attachment rotates moves in the idling position turn the idling speed screw T counter clockwise until the cutting attachment stops MAINTENANCE Final setting of the idling speed T Adjust the idling speed with the screw T if it is necessary to readjust Firs

17. e cutting equipment be used without an approved guard fitted See the chapter Technical data If the wrong guard or a defective guard is fitted this can cause serious personal injury 14 English Assembling the spray guard and trimmer head Superauto Il Fit the guard A intended for use with the trimmer head Secure using the 4 bolts L and the support plate M as set out in the diagram Fit the drive disc B on the output axle Turn the blade axle until one of the holes in the drive disc aligns with the hole in the gear housing Insert the locking pin C in the hole so that the axle is locked T hetrimmer head must be split to be fitted see the diagram Proceed as follows Insert your finger into the centre hole of the cover 1 at the same time as you hold the cover with your other fingers Pressthe two catches J that extend from the cut out on the bottom section K using the thumb and index finger of your other hand Press apart the trimmer head using the fingers on the cover Place the cover and the support flange F on the output axle Fit the nut G The tightening torque of the nut is 35 50 N m 3 5 5 kpm Use the socket spanner in the tool kit H old the handle of the spanner as close to the trimmer guard as possible T he nut is tightened when the spanner is turned against the direction of rotation left hand thread Fit the trimmer head s bottom
18. e of 2 stroke oil T he carburettor is equipped with three adjustment possibilities L Low speed needle H High speed needle T Idle speed adjuster screw T hefuel quantity in relation to the air flow permitted by the throttle opening is adjusted using the L and H needles Turning the needles clockwise gives a leaner fuel mixture less fuel and turning them anti clockwise gives a richer fuel mixture more fuel A leaner mixture gives high revs whilea richer mixture give less revs e TheT screw regulates the position of the throttle while the engine is idling T urning the screw clockwise gives a higher idling speed while turning it anti clockwise gives a lower idling speed 1 8 English Basic setting e The carburettor is set to its basic setting when test run at the factory T he basic setting is richer than the optimal setting and should be kept during the machine s first working hours T hereafter the carburettor should be finely adjusted Fine adjustment should be carried out by a skilled technician NOTE If the cutting attachment rotates moves while the engine is idling the T screw should be turned anti clockwise until the cutting attachment stops Rec idling speed 2 700 rpm Recommended max speed See technical data WARNING If the idling speed cannot be adjusted so that the cutting attachment stops contact your service workshop Do not use the machine until it has been correctly
19. ead to serious engine damage Designations e Brush cutting is a general term for clearing grass Grass blades are used for this purpose Grass trimming isa general term for light clearing e g around edges or around trees A trimmer head or plastic blade is used WARNING Sometimes branches grass or wood can get caught between the guard and cutting equipment Always stop the engine when cleaning Brush cutting using a grass blade A blade is used for all types of high or thick grass e Thegrass is cut down with a sideways swinging movement where the movement from right to left is the clearing stroke and the movement from left to right is the return stroke Let the blade work on the left hand side between 8 and 12 o clock If the blade is angled to the left when clearing the grass will collect in a line which makes collection easier e g when raking Try to work rhythmically Stand firmly with your feet apart M ove forward after the return stroke and stand firmly again Let the support cup rest lightly against the ground It is used to protect the blade from hitting the ground Reduce the risk of material wrapping around the blade by following these instructions a Always work at full throttle b Avoid the previously cut material during the return stroke Stop the engine loosen the harness and place the machine on the ground before you start to collect the cut material Englis

32. s it splatters heavily the adjustment is too rich N OTE For optimum setting of the carburettor contact a qualified servicing dealer who has a revolution counter at his disposal Correctly adjusted carburettor A correctly adjusted carburettor means that the machine accelerates without hesitation and the machine 4 cycles a little at max speed Furthermore the cutting attachment must not rotate move at idling A too lean adjusted low speed needle L may cause starting difficulties and bad acceleration A too lean adjusted high speed needle H gives lower power less capacity bad acceleration and or damage to the engine A too rich adjustment of the two speed needles L and H gives acceleration problems or too low working speed English 1 9 MAINTENANCE Muffler NOTE Some mufflers are fitted with a catalytic converter See Technical data to see whether your machine is fitted with a catalytic converter T he muffler is designed to dampen the noise level and to direct the exhaust fumes away from the user T he exhaust fumes are hot and can contain sparks which can result in fire if the exhaust fumes are directed towards a dry and inflammable material Some mufflers are equipped with a special spark arrest screen If your machine is fitted with thistype of screen it should be cleaned regularly T his is done using a wire brush On mufflers without a catalytic converter the screen should be cleaned
33. t turn the idle speed adjusting screw T clockwise until the cutting attachment starts to rotate move Then turn counter clockwise until the cutting attachment stops A correctly adjusted idle speed setting occurs when the engine runs smoothly in every position It should also be good margin to the rom when the cutting attachment starts to rotate move CAUTION Contact your servicing dealer if the idle speed setting cannot be adjusted so that the cutting attachment stops D o not use the machine until it has been properly adjusted or repaired High speed needle H The high speed needle affects the machines power speed temperature and fuel consumption A too lean adjustment on the high speed needle H the high speed needle H is screwed in too much gives a too high speed resulting in engine damage D o not allow the engineto run at full speed for morethan 10 seconds Apply full throttle and turn the high speed needle H slowly anticlockwise until the engine runs unevenly The high speed needle H is then turned slowly clockwise alittle until the Peil engine runs smoothly e N ote the engine should be e run unloaded when e adjusting the high speed needle Therefore dismantlethe cutting equipment nut support flange and disc drive before adjusting the high speed needle T he high speed needle is adjusted correctly when the machine splatters a little If the machine smokes heavily at the same time a

35. ulty oil A dirty air filter T hese factors cause deposits on the spark plug electrode that may result in malfunction or starting difficulties If the machine is low on power difficult to start or runs poorly while idling always check the spark plug first If the spark plug is dirty clean it and at the same time check that the electrode gap is 0 5 mm T he spark plug should be changed after about one month of operation or earlier if necessary NOTE Always use the recommended type of spark plug An incorrect spark plug can damage the cylinder piston MAINTENANCE ig ine Air filter Theair filter should be cleaned regularly removing dust and dirt to avoid carburettor malfunction starting problems reduced engine power unnecessary wear to engine parts abnormal fuel consumption Clean the filter after every 25 hours or more regularly if operating conditions are exceptionally dusty Cleaning the air filter D ismantle the air filter cover and remove the air filter Wash in clean warm soapy water Ensure that the filter is dry before refitting An air filter used for along period of time can never be cleaned completely T herefore it is necessary to replace the filter from time to time with a new filter A damaged air filter must always be replaced If the machine is used in dusty conditions the air filter should be soaked in oil see the section on Oiling the air filter
