5. cecceeseeseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees 28 HOw TO Order cocci de Mein oe oct 28 Chapter 1 Getting Started Things to Consider Before You Connect Protect Against Power Surges e Connect all components before you plug any of their power cords into the wall outlet e Turn off the TV and or component before you connect or disconnect any cables e Make sure all antennas and cables are properly grounded Refer to the Important Safeguards sheet packed with your TV Protect Components from Overheating e Don t block ventilation holes on any of the components Arrange the components so that air can circulate freely e Don t stack components e When you place components in a stand make sure you allow adequate ventilation e Ifyou connect an audio receiver or amplifier place it on the top shelf so the heated air from it won t flow around other components Position Cables Properly to Avoid Audio Interference e Insert each cable firmly into the designated jack e Ifyou place components above the TV route all cables down the side of the back of the TV instead of straight down the middle of the back of the TV e If your antenna uses 300 ohm twin lead cables do not coil the cables Also keep the twin lead cables away from audio video cables Important Stand and Base Safety Information Choose the location for your TV carefully Place the TV on a stand or base that is of adequate size and strength to prevent the TV from being accidentally tipped

Quality Menu This menu contains five controls that adjust the TV s picture Use the CHAN or VOL buttons to adjust the controls Contrast Adjusts the difference between the light and dark areas of the picture Color Adjusts the richness of the color Tint Adjusts the balance between the red and green levels Black Level Adjusts the brightness of the picture Sharpness Adjusts the crispness of the edges in the picture Reset Picture Controls Resets the picture controls to their original settings Screen Menu CC Display Lets you choose the way closed captioning information is shown on the screen Off No captioning information is displayed On Captioning information is shown always when available On When Muted Captioning information is shown when available whenever the TV s sound is muted To mute the sound press the MUTE button The captioning information is not displayed when the sound is not muted CC Mode Lets you choose which captioning mode is used for displaying captioning information Use the MENU button to toggle between the choices CC7 and CC2 Menu Language Lets you choose the language you prefer for the menus English Spanish or French 18 Graphics contained within this publication are for representation only Your unit might differ slightly Chapter 3 Using the TV s Menu System Using Closed Captioning Many programs are encoded with closed captioning information which lets you display the audio p

13. atings Rating field Rating status field To block movies 1 Highlight the Rating field and press the CHAN up and down buttons to find the rating that is the lowest rating you don t want the child to watch 2 Press VOL to highlight the rating Status field Press the CHAN up and down buttons to V change the button from View to Block All higher ratings automatically change to Block Press MENU to exit 3 Press MENU to return to the menu or exit the screen 4 If Parental Controls are not locked you must lock them so the movie rating limits will take effect Note Some movies may be given a Not Rated NR rating After blocking movie ratings you must set NR to View separately to view NR movies Continues on next page Graphics contained within this publication are for representation only Your unit might differ slightly 9 Chapter 2 Using the TV s Features Viewing Movie Ratings After you block movie ratings you have the option of changing some of the rating status buttons back to View 1 Highlight the Rating field and press the CHAN up and down buttons to find the rating you want to view 2 Press VOL to highlight the rating Status field Press the CHAN up and down buttons to change the button from Block to View For example if movies with a rating of PG 13 and higher are blocked you can change the rating status corresponding with NC 17 Your child would then be able to watch all movies with a G PG and
