3. what you need in order to successfully print e 700 MHz or faster Pentium III IV processor running Windows 2000 XP or Vista e 512 MB or greater RAM 4 Getting Started lt a n gt e Free hard drive space of at least 10 GB e Available USB Port If your PC does not have these minimum system requirements system performance may not be acceptable E MAC SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Before getting started it is important for you to verify that your computer meets the recommended system requirements Here s what you need in order to successfully burn and print with the Discribe software e G4 PowerPC 700MHz or higher running OS X version 10 2 or higher e 256MB RAM e Free hard drive space of at least 2 GB up to 6 GB for DVD e Available USB 2 0 Port Do not connect the Printer to any USB hubs or the USB port on your keyboard It should be connected directly to an onboard USB 2 0 port If your computer does not have at least these minimum system requirements system performance may not be acceptable F OVERVIEW OF OPERATION Your new Printer is an automated precision device intended for continuous duty publishing of discs The following is a description of the complete process of printing a CD DVD job on your Printer 1 Up to 50 blank discs may be loaded at one time into the Input Bin Getting Started 5 lt a n gt 2 The Robotic Disc Transporter will pick a disc from the Input Bin After each disc is
4. stored in the printer 4 Horizontal Value 0 4 gt Vertical Value 0 Cancel Set Values Printing Discs on a Mac 31 lt a n gt Look at the finished alignment disc and pick the numbers that come closest to lining up with one another For instance on the disc shown in this manual the vertical alignment is 2 and the horizontal alignment is 0 Enter this in the alignment dialog box If you choose not to print the test print you will simply see the alignment dialog box and can enter values to move the image The unit of measure is roughly 0 1mm Making the Horizontal Calibration number smaller or more negative will move the image slightly to the left Making the Horizontal Calibration a larger value or more positive will move the image to the right If the Vertical Calibration number is made smaller or more negative the image will move slightly up If the Vertical Calibration is set to a larger value or more positive value the image will move down on the disc 32 Printing Discs on a Mac Section 5 Interpreting the Printer s Indicator Lights The Power and Busy LED indicator lights located on the top of the Printer can tell you a lot about what is happening inside the Printer To accurately interpret what it means when these lights are on off or flashing please refer to the following Ink Cartridge Power LED LED Printer both lights are slowly blinking alternately with one another
5. 1 Applying Power e Locate the power cord supplied with your Printer e Plug the adapter into a surge protected outlet and plug the power plug into the power port on the rear panel of the Printer Step 2 Loading Media Discs NOTE Your Printer can print directly onto virtually any brand of inkjet printable surface CD DVD media However different brands of discs have different printable coatings Because of this you may need to adjust the printer driver settings to accommodate your specific brand of CD DVD media Refer to Section 3A and 4C for further printer driver information Due to the wide variety of printable surface CD DVD media you may find that certain brands of discs provide higher print quality than others For maximum print quality use CD DVD media authorized by Primera 8 Hardware and Software Setup lt a n gt Refer to the following steps when loading discs in to the Printer e Open the front cover of the Printer e The Printer will automatically position the cartridge carrier and Robotic Disc Transporter to the center position allowing for easy access to the bins e Load the Input Bin the bin located on the right hand side of the Printer with 50 blank discs and place the bins on the mounting pegs Hardware and Software Setup 9 lt a Step 3 Connecting the USB 2 0 Cable nstalling the Driver Connect the Printer to your PC or Mac with your beige USB 2 0 Cable If you are

8. placed in the printer the Robotic Disc Transporter checks the input stack to see if multiple discs were accidentally picked 3 Printing will now begin Print time varies according to which print mode has been selected section 3 A In most cases print time takes no more than 2 minutes After printing the first disc the Printer s Disc Tray opens automatically The Robotic Disc Transporter moves the finished disc to the Output Bin 4 The Robotic Disc Transporter will now load the second disc into the Printer Tray for printing 4 5 The process starts over and repeats until all blank discs are gone or the number you have specified via software are printed 6 Now that you understand the order of operation it is time to set up your Printer 6 Getting Started Section 2 Hardware and Software Setup Set Up This section will describe the step by step process of setting up your Printer This includes information on how to load the supplies ink and disc media necessary to start printing discs A INSTALLING THE PC SOFTWARE The Installer Disc has a QuickStart menu that will guide you through the process of setting up your duplicator Please refer to the following for more information on each step 1 Place the CD DVD Printer Installer CD in your CDRom Drive The Installer application should automatically launch in a few moments If it does proceed to Step 2 If it does not automatically launch follow thes

11. e bin you will be able to move the bin slightly to align it Place the Output Bin on the Output Bin Holder as shown Locating Tabs 22 Printing Discs on a PC lt a m gt Kiosk mode is enabled as follows Click the Start button For Windows 2000 point to Settings and click on Printers For XP Professional click on Printers and Faxes For XP Home click on Control Panel then click on Printers and Other Hardware then click on Printers and Faxes For Windows Vista click the Windows button and choose Printers Click on the Disc Printer Pro icon with the right mouse button and select Printing Preferences Find the Disc Output Location setting at the bottom of the preferences screen Set it to Kiosk Printing Discs on a PC 23 Section 4 Printing Discs on a Mac A PRINTED LABEL FORMAT REQUIREMENTS Your printer driver allows you to create labels in most any graphics application The driver will center the image and automatically crop it to the shape of a CD This means you do not necessarily need a template to create a CD in your favorite graphics program Simply create a custom page size of 120mm 4 72 inches square and center your image in that area and the driver will do the rest Because the driver crops the image to the shape of a CD you do not want to make your design round You will find it is best to over bleed your design by filling the whole 120mm area with your image This ensures the outer and inner diamet
12. e cartridge and actually clean the print head by gently blotting the nozzles with a moist cloth or paper towel and replace it in the Printer Change Cartridge If you need to change cartridges it is a good idea to use the Change Cartridge button in the Configuration Utility This ensures the most accurate tracking of ink levels To change a cartridge click the Change Cartridge button The cartridge holder will move to the center of the Printer to make it easier to install the cartridges Lift the top cover and install the cartridges and described in Section 2 of this manual You will be prompted to let the system know whether or not you are installing a new or used color or monochrome cartridge Once installed click the OK button and the system will update your cartridge levels Alignment Calibration Print The Cartridge Alignment prints a test print and then automatically scans the print to configure your printer for bidirectional printing and to align the color and black cartridges for Color Black printing It is important to perform this calibration every time you change a cartridge If you forget to perform this calibration you will be prompted to do so before your first print from the new cartridge Image Alignment The Image Alignment button will allow you to nudge the image up down left or right on your disc To center the image click the Image Alignment button You will be prompted with a choice to print a test print or simp
13. e steps e Double click the My Computer Icon then double click the icon of the appropriate CD drive containing the Software Installer disc e Double click Installer exe 2 In the Installer Application click the Standard Install button The on screen instructions will guide you step by step through the installation process B INSTALLING THE MAC SOFTWARE Before installing the software please note that all software must be installed on a hard disk Once you have installed the software store the original program CD ROM in a safe place Please note that your user account must have administrative rights to properly install a new printer You can check with your system administrator or check with Apple support to confirm whether or not your account has administrative rights Install the software as follows a Insert the Installation CD ROM in your system s CD ROM drive b Double click the CD ROM icon Hardware and Software Setup 7 lt a n gt c Double click on the AutoPrinterPro Installer mpkg file icon Follow the on screen instructions d The volume containing the operating system should be selected for installation Click the Continue button All components will be installed to their proper locations e Once the installation has completed click Quit You have successfully installed all the necessary software Section C below will describe how to connect the Printer to your Mac C HARDWARE SETUP Step

16. ers will print perfectly round on your disc Label Format Requirements e 4 72 x 4 72 120mm Square Image e No Circular Images To Print and burn simultaneously through the Discribe program the image will need to be in one of the following supported file formats JPEGs TIFFs PICTs PDFs GIFs BMP JPEG 2000 MacPaint Photoshop PNG QuickTime Images SGI TGA and more In order to help you design your label included on the installation disc are templates in eps format These templates will help you get started designing your label To use the template follow these steps 1 Open the template in Photoshop or Illustrator 2 Create a new layer for your image or graphics Make sure the template layer is on top of the image layer 3 Place your image or design your graphics on the new layer Use the template as a guide for image and graphics placement 24 Printing Discs on a Mac lt a n gt 4 Before you print or save your image in another format either hide the template layer or delete the template layer The circular shape and center cut out should not be printed Use it only as a guide to layout your image B PRINTING FROM ANY APPLICATION To print simply follow the normal procedure for printing from your graphics application Select the Disc Publisher Pro as your printer Select the number of copies The Printer will pick and print as many copies as you select C PRINTER OPTIONS The following sectio
17. g File then Print and selecting Printer Settings In Printer Settings you will find a button to launch the Configuration Utility When launched the following pane appears 00 0 Disc Publisher PRO Configuration Clean Cartridge C Change Cartridge Align Cartridges image Centering Crs Black Cartridge Color Cartridge a f 92 86 You will see both the Color and Monochrome Ink Levels are displayed The Color Ink Level represents the lowest color in your cartridge For instance if your cartridge has 80 cyan 50 yellow and 65 magenta ink remaining the level reported would be 50 You will also see the following buttons Clean Cartridge Cartridges that sit idle in the Printer for a period of time may start to experience some drying of ink in the tiny nozzles that make up the print head Clicking the Clean Cartridge button will cause the Printer to pick a disc and place in into the printer tray The Printer will then print a simple pattern that will flush ink through the nozzles The test pattern will also show you if any nozzles are clogged In the pattern you will see some diagonal lines which should be continuous breaks in those lines indicate a clogged nozzle Please note that it may require more than one cleaning to fully clear all nozzles If the Printing Discs on a Mac 29 lt a o gt nozzles are not fully clear after a few cleaning prints it may be necessary to remove th

20. isc Surface Quality This setting also affects the Quality of the printed image by altering the color matching profile Start with the default setting for fastest printing and the least ink consumption If the quality needs improvement move to the next highest setting Intensity The Intensity setting will control the amount of ink saturation on the disc When printing onto the Primera ToughCoat discs 96 is usually sufficient When printing on to other brands of media or if you would like to print darker colors you may wish to increase or decrease the Intensity setting Inner Diameter The inner diameter refers to the size of the non printed center on your disc The size of the center hub can vary from one type of media to the next This allows you to set the inner diameter in millimeters allowing you to print all the way to the center hub regardless of the type of disc you are using For the discs that Primera sells use the following guide for Inner Diameter 23 mm for Primera s Tuff Coat CDRs and DVDs 24 9 mm for the Hockey Rink Disc Business Card Disc and 80mm CD Printing Discs on a Mac 27 lt a o gt Outer Margin The Outer Margin refers to where the printing will cut off around the outer edge of your disc The size of the printable surface can vary from one type of media to the next This allows you to set the outer margin in millimeters allowing you to print all the way to the edge regardless of the type of d
21. isc you are using Config Utility This button launches the Configuration Utility This Utility is also available in the Print Center by selecting the Disc Printer Pro and clicking the Configure or Utility Icon This utility is used to report ink levels clean and change ink cartridges and align your color and black cartridges for optimal print quality In addition this utility will allow you to center and adjust your printed image Refer to Section 4D of this manual for a detailed description of this program Save As Default The Save As Default button will save the current settings as the system wide defaults Restore Defaults The Restore Defaults button will restore the driver settings to the factory defaults D CONFIGURATION UTILITY The Configuration Utility is a program that installs with your Printer software This utility allows you to monitor ink levels maintain and calibrate ink cartridges and align printing on the disc The Configuration Utility can be launched from the Print Center in OSX by doing the following 1 2 3 Click the Finder Click the Applications Icon Scroll to Print Center Printer Setup Utility in OS X v 10 3 or greater Highlight the Disc Publisher Pro and click the Configure Utility in OS X v 10 3 or greater Icon 28 Printing Discs on a Mac lt a o gt You can also launch the Configuration Utility from the Disc Publisher Pro printer settings in any printing application by clickin
