1. 16 10 Insert the ends of the lines through exit holes in the sides of the cover Line exit hole 11 Reinstall the spool and cover onto the trimmer head Push until cover snaps into place REPLACING THE TRIMMER HEAD 1 Hold the dust cup with a wrench to keep the shaft from turning while removing and installing trimmer head Dust Cup 2 Remove trimmer head by turning coun terclockwise looking from bottom of unit 3 Thread replacement trimmer head onto the shaft by turning clockwise Only tighten hand tight EDGER BLADE REPLACEMENT 44 WARNING The blade will continue to spin after the engine stops or after the throttle trigger has been released To avoid serious injury make sure the blade has stopped coasting and disconnect the spark plug before performing work on the blade AA WARNING Wear protective gloves when handling or performing maintenance on the blade to avoid injury The blade is sharp and can cut you even when it is not moving 1 Toremovethe blade align hole in the dust cup with the hole in the side of the gear box by rotating the blade 2 Insert a small screwdriver into aligned holes This will keep the shaft from turn ing while loosening the blade nut 3 While holding the screwdriver in position remove blade nut by turning clockwise 4 Remove both washers and the blade from the blade shaft Washers Oo Blade Shaft Blade nut Install new blade onto blade sh

3. lease air filter cover NOTE To avoid creating a fire hazard or producing harmful evaporative emissions do not clean filter in gasoline or other flammable solvent 3 Wash the filter in soap and water 4 Allow filter to dry 5 Replace parts Air Filter Cover MUFFLER AND SPARK ARREST ING SCREEN A WARNING The muffler on this prod uct contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer As your unit is used carbon deposits build up on the muffler and spark arresting screen For normal homeowner use however the muffler and spark arresting screen will not re quire any service After 50 hours of use we recommend that your muffler be serviced or replaced by your authorized service dealer REPLACE SPARK PLUG Replace the spark plug each year to ensure the engine starts easier and runs better Set spark plug gap at 0 025 inch 0 6 mm Igni tion timing is fixed and nonadjustable 1 Twist then pull off spark plug boot 2 Remove spark plug from cylinder and discard 3 Replace with Champion RCJ 6Y spark plug and tighten securely with a 3 4 inch 19 mm socket wrench 4 Reinstall the spark plug boot EDGER BLADE MAINTENANCE AA WARNING The blade will continue to spin after the engine stops or after the throttle trigger has been released To avoid serious injury make sure the blade has stopped coasting and disconnect the spark plug before performing work on the blade AA WARNIN

In the mowing position keep the line parallel to the ground Avoid pressing the head into the ground as this can scalp the ground and damage the tool 13 Mowing SWEEPING The fanning action ofthe rotat ing line can be used for a quick and easy clean up Keep the line parallel to and above the surfaces being swept and move the tool from side to side EDGER ATTACHMENT OPERATING POSITION ALWAYS WEAR Head Protection Eye Protection N N When operating unit stand as shown and check for the following e Wear eye protection and heavy clothing Keep right arm slightly bent with right hand holding the trigger handle of powerhead e Keep left arm extended with left hand holding the handle Keep unit below waist level e Adjust edger wheel for proper cut depth AA WARNING Never attempt to adjust the edger wheel when the unit is in operation Always stop the powerhead wait until the blade stops turning and disconnectthe spark plug before making adjustments EDGING As you become familiar with use of your edger attachment you will be ableto determine your own operating pace Conditions such as depth of cut and material being cut will regulate the speed and time re quired for your edging job Allow the engine to warm up before you begin edging Increase the engine speed before placing the blade in the cut For best results run the en gine at full throttle while cutting Alw

AIR OR REPLACEMENT OF PARTS Repair or replacement of any warranted part will be performed at no charge to the owner at an approved Poulan PRO servicing center If you have any questions regarding your warranty rights and responsi bilities you should contact your nearest au thorized service center call Poulan PRO at 1 800 554 6723 or send e mail correspon dence to emission warranty HCOP emission com WARRANTY PERIOD Any warranted part which is not scheduled for re placement as required maintenance or which is scheduled only for regular inspection to the effect of repair or replace as necessary shall be warranted for 2 years Any warranted part which is scheduled for replacement as re quired maintenance shall be warranted for the period of time up to the first scheduled re placement point for that part DIAGNOSIS The owner shall not be charged for diagnostic labor which leads to the determination that a warranted part is defective if the diagnostic work is performed at an approved Poulan PRO servicing center CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES Poulan PRO may be liable for damages to other engine components caused by the failure of a warranted part still under war ranty WHAT IS NOT COVERED All failures caused by abuse neglect or improper mainte nance are not covered ADD ON OR MODI FIED PARTS The use of add on or modified parts can be grounds for disallowing a warranty claim Poulan PRO is not liable to cover failures of

G Always replace a blade that is bent warped cracked broken or damaged in any other way Never attempt to straighten and reuse a damaged blade Use only specified replacement blade Wear pro tective gloves when handling or performing maintenance on the blade to help avoid injury The blade is reversible When the cutting edge on one side becomes worn turn the blade over see BLADE REPLACEMENT in the SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS section Check blade for flatness periodically Lay the blade on a flat surface to inspect for flatness Throw away a blade thatis notflat 15 SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS REPLACING THE LINE 5 When installing new line on an existing 1 Press the tabs on the side of the trimmer spool hold the spool as shown head and remove cover and spool 6 Bend the line at the midpoint and insert the bend into the slot in the center rim of the spool Ensure line snaps into position a in the slot 7 With your finger between the lines wrap the lines evenly and firmly around the spool in a clockwise direction 2 Remove any remaining line 3 Clean dirt and debris from all parts Re place spool if it is worn or damaged 4 Replace with a pre wound spool or re place line using a 25 feet 8 meters length of 0 080 inch 2 mm diameter Poulan PRO brand line WARNING Never use wire rope string etc which can break off and become a 9 Place the spool in the cover as shown dangerous missile below

P Switch START LEVER The START LEVER helps to supply fuel to the engine to aid in starting Activate the starting system by moving the start lever to the START position DO NOT squeeze the throttle trigger until the engine has started and runs After the engine starts allow the engine to warm up 10 15 seconds then fully squeeze the throttle trigger to deactivate the starting system COUPLER The COUPLER enables optional attach ments to be installed on the unit 10 TRIMMER HEAD The TRIMMER HEAD holds the cutting line and rotates during operation It is designed to cut grass BLADE The BLADE is designed to cut sod BEFORE STARTING ENGINE A WARNING Be sure to read the fuel information in the safety rules before you begin If you do not understand the safety rules do not attempt to fuel your unit Call 1 800 554 6723 FUELING ENGINE A WARNING Remove fuel cap slowly when refueling HELPFUL TIP To obtain the correct oil mix ratio pour 3 2 ounces of 2 cycle synthetic oil into one gallon of fresh gas This engine is certified to operate on unleaded gasoline Before operation gasoline must be mixed with a good quality synthetic 2 cycle air cooled engine oil designed to be mixed at a ratio of 40 1 PoulanWEED EATER brand synthetic oil is recommended Mix gasoline and oil at a ratio of 40 1 A 40 1 ratio is obtained by mixing 3 2 fluid ounces 95 ml of oil with 1 gallon 4 liters of unleaded gasoline DO NOT

PTH ADJUSTMENT KNOB The DEPTH ADJUSTMENT KNOB is used to adjust the wheel for blade cutting depth when edging Y on sToP Switch HOW TO START YOUR UNIT A WARNING Avoid any contact with the muffler A hot muffler can cause serious burns HELPFUL TIP If your engine still does not start after following these instructions please call 1 800 554 6723 STARTING A COLD ENGINE NOTE DO NOT squeeze the throttle trigger until the engine has started and runs 1 Set unit on a flat surface 2 Slowly press the primer bulb 6 times 3 Move the start lever to the START posi tion Primer Bulb Starter Handle 11 4 Pull starter rope handle sharply until en gine starts and runs 5 Allow unit to run for 10 15 seconds then fully squeeze the throttle trigger to disen gage the starting system STARTING A WARM ENGINE 1 Squeeze and hold the throttle trigger Keep throttle trigger fully squeezed until engine runs smoothly 2 Pull starter rope sharply while squeezing throttle trigger until engine runs NOTE Normally the warm starting procedure can be used within 5 10 minutes after the unit is turned off If the unit sits for more than 10 min utes without being ran it will be necessary to start the unit by following the steps under STARTING A COLD ENGINE or following the starting instruction steps shown on the unit STARTING A FLOODED ENGINE Flooded engines can be started by placing the start lever to the RU
