To enjoy your cassette player for a long time e Keep the cassette player dry If it gets wet wipe it dry immediately e Use and store the cassette player only in normal temper ature environments e Handle the cassette player gently and carefully Don t drop it e Keep the cassette player away from dust and dirt e Wipe the cassette player with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new Modifying or tampering with the cassette player s internal components can cause a malfunction and invalidate its war ranty If your cassette player is not performing as it should take it to your local RadioShack store for assistance 21 _ SD F bs 14 1255 fm Page 22 Tuesday July 27 1999 10 47 AM CLEANING THE TAPE HANDLING PARTS Dirt dust or particles of the tape s coating can accumulate on the tape heads and other parts that the tape touches This can greatly reduce the performance of the SCP 103 Follow these steps after every 20 hours of operation Play Head Tape Guide Pinch Roller Capstan 1 Remove the batteries and disconnect any other power source 2 Open the cassette compartment door 3 Press lt q p gt to expose the tape handling parts 4 Use a cotton swab dipped in denatured alcohol or tape head cleaning solution to clean the play head pinch roller capstan and tape guides 5 When you finish cleaning press W and close the cas sette compartment door Then reconnect power
3. 6 40 SA em e a 14 1255 fm Page 7 Tuesday July 27 1999 10 47 AM Replace the batteries when the low battery icon flashes on the display the sound distorts or the volume weakens Warning Dispose of old batteries promptly and properly Do not burn or bury them Caution If you do not plan to use the SCP 103 for a month or more remove the batteries Batteries can leak chemicals that can destroy electronic parts Important At the end of a nickel cadmium battery s useful life it must be recycled or disposed of properly Contact your local county or state hazardous waste management authori ties for information on recycling or disposal programs in your area Some options that might be available are municipal curbside collection drop off boxes at retailers such as your local RadioShack store recycling collection centers and mail back programs 7 ee SD F bs 14 1255 fm Page 8 Tuesday July 27 1999 10 47 AM Using AC Power You can power the SCP 103 using a 3V 300 mA AC adapter and a size H Adaptaplug neither supplied Both are avail able at your local RadioShack store Cautions You must use a Class 2 power source that sup plies 3V DC and delivers at least 300 mA Its center tip must be set to positive and its plug must fit the SCP 103 s DC 3V jack Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage the SCP 103 or the adapter e Always connect the AC ada
4. 47 AM 2 Repeatedly press BAND until the display shows the desired band AM or FM Memory Location Buttons Memory Location Buttons MEMORY CLOCK BAND 3 Tune to the first station you want to store The display shows the frequency 4 Press MEMORY CLOCK MEMO flashes on the display for about 5 seconds Note If you do not press a memory location button or 5 within about 5 seconds MEMO disappears from the dis play Start again from Step 4 5 To store stations into memory locations 1 5 press a memory location button 1 5 then press MEMORY CLOCK again MEMO disappears To store stations into memory locations 6 10 press 5 then one of the memory location buttons 1 5 For example if you press 5 then 1 the stereo stores the selected frequency into memory location 6 Press MEM ORY CLOCK again 6 Tune to the next station you want to store then repeat Steps 4 and 5 15 o o VA ZS 14 1255 fm Page 16 Tuesday July 27 1999 10 47 AM To replace a station you stored store a new station in that memory location USING LOCK This button helps prevent you from accidentally turning the radio on or off resetting the clock time or losing radio sta tions stored in memory Press LOCK to activate this function The lock icon appears To deactivate the lock function press LOCK again The lock icon disappears LOCK 16 WY F 14 1255
