1.    The following table shows the main keys used to control a KN EKT system        Key  KN EKT  PROG    Audio Video source  select keys    VOLUME   and         KNEKT function    W here    W hat    Do    Volume          programming the AV Personal Handset       In addition to providing all the functions necessary to control the AV 5103  System Controller and any other Linn equipment in your system  the  Personal Handset can learn commands from the infra red handsets for other  equipment you may own This allows you to program your Linn Personal  Handset so that it is the only handset you need in your system  allowing you  to control all your hi fi  audio  and video components from a single  convenient keypad     The Personal Handset provides two programmable groups of keys  the  Programmable source control keys and the Programmable numeric keys  as  well as the STAN DBY key An independent set of functions can be assigned  to these keys for each of your audio and video sources  thus allowing you to  control up to 11 different sources attached to your system     In addition there is also a special case for aTV source  which can be learnt  by the Personal H andset s volume and balance keys     W hen you select an audio or video source the functions of the  programmable keys automatically change to the functions you have learnt for  that source     The following procedure allows the AV5101 Personal Handset to be  programmed to control other equipment such as VCRs and LaserD isc  pla

8.  transmitted   and at the end of the sequence it will turn off     Examples of macros   Playing a video at night   The following macro switches the System Controller on  selects Midnight  Movie mode  selects the VCR source  and starts the video playing     STAN DBY  QUIET  PROG VCR  PLAY    Displaying the National Lottery results on teletext   The following macro selects the TV source  chooses ITV  Teletext  and  then page 123    PROG TV  3  TEXT  1  2 3    Interupt a CD forthe news   The following macro pauses the CD player  switches to the TV source  and  selects BBC 1    CD  PAUSE  PROG TV  1    Resuming a CD   This macro might be used in conjunction with the previous one  It    switches back to the CD source and starts the CD playing again     PROG  CD  PLAY     Da  ere e    AO mal    di       with Linn equipment       using the AV 510     14    using the AV 5101 with Linn equipment       The Linn AV Personal Handset provides a range of special functions for  controlling the Linn AV 5103 System Controller  and for setting it up to suit  the other equipment in your system  For full information about using the  Personal Handset with the System Controller please refer to the AV 5103  System Controller Owners M anual     The Linn AV Personal Handset also contains all the functions you need to  control any other Linn equipment you have in your system  and it can be  used in place of the handsets supplied with each product This chapter gives  information about using the Persona

RN function T hese keys can also be used with Linn  CD players and FM tuners to enter a track number  preset number  or  station frequency     Refer to the Appendix  page 26  for the default settings for each source     General use of the handset    Put the System Controller into or bring it out of standby  mode like this    Press the STAN DBY key     Put a source into or bring it out of standby mode like this    Press the appropriate Audio Video source select key  followed by the  STAN D BY key within 2 seconds     For example to put your TV into standby mode  press the TV key followed  by the STAN D BY key     Change the volume like this   The following volume and speaker balance keys can operate either the   System Controller volume functions or the TV volume functions    NORM  SELECT  MUTE VOLUME   and VO LUME     To change from the System Controller to TV control  or vice versa    i Press the Audio Video source select key corresponding to the source  you want to listen to  followed by one of the above volume and  speaker balance keys within 2 seconds    For example  if the Personal Handset is currently controlling the TV   volume functions and you want to increase the volume on the System   Controller for the CD you are listening to       Press the CD key  followed by the VOLUME   key within 2 seconds     The speaker and balance keys will now control the System Controller  volume functions     Select amplifier controls like this   The AV System function keys  Audio Video

16. g that each of them  work perfectly with each other     The result is an integrated system that will give you the most rewarding  experience you can achieve from watching a film  or listening to a music  recording  bringing a new dimension to the way you experience cinema in  the home           d mn t  Sei u c t  ion       About the AV 5105 Stereo Power  Amplifier   The Linn AV 5105 Stereo Power Amplifier is intended for use in high  performance audio and audio video systems  It combines high output power   ruggedness  and ease of use with our passion for quality  It draws on years of  experience of designing and making high quality audio power amplifiers     Inside the compact case are two completely independent electrically isolated  channels with fully regulated power supplies giving dual mono  performance   The signal path is DC coupled and servo controlled for the lowest distortion   cleanest  least coloured sound The output stage is highly derated for cool   reliable operation  and the protection circuitry protects extensively against  accidents or abuse     A signal sensing circuit detects the presence of audio above a very low level  and turns on the main power supplies to the amplifier  bringing the power  amplifier channel from a very low standby power consumption to full  operation  It reverts to the standby condition a few minutes after the input  signal disappears T his is particularly useful in multi channel surround sound  systems     The AV 5105 accepts the Li
17. icular teletext page as a single key  The  sequence of commands is called a macro  and you can keep up to ten  different macros for your most frequently used operations  Some practical  examples of using macros are given at the end of this section     Record a macro like this     Press the LEARN key to indicate that you want the Personal Handset  to learn a macro    The LEARN indicator will be illuminated      Press the MACRO key to learn a macro     The MACRO indicator will also be illuminated       Press a numeric key to assign a number to the macro you want to  learn     For example  to assign a macro to key 5 press 5     The LEARN indicator will flash slowly to show that the Personal Handset  is ready to learn commands     Any keys you now press will be recorded in the macro     For example  you might press TEXT  1  2 3 to select Teletext page 123 As  you press each command the macro indicator will blink once     i Finally save the macro you have learnt by pressing the LEARN key     Both the LEARN and MACRO indicators will now turn off showing that  the macro has been saved     Each macro can remember up to ten commands  If you enter nine  commands the LEARN and MACRO indicators will flash slowly to warn  you that the macro is nearly full W hen you enter a tenth command the  macro will be saved automatically     Replay a macro like this    Press the MACRO key followed by the number of the macro  for  example 5     The MACRO indicator will flash rapidly as the commands are

24. reate an AV system which gives you  the same accuracy and purity of sound  even when you are listening to special  effects in an action movie     AV 5103 System Controller    The heart of the system is the AV 5103 System Controller  This controls  your audio and video sources to let you choose what you want to watch or  listen to  It can control analogue signals  from a tape recorder or FM tuner   for example  digital signals  from a CD player or a LaserD isc player  and video  sources  from aTV tuner  video recorder and LaserD isc player  It also decodes  surround encoded materials  includingAC  3  to give you a complete surround  sound experience W ith its informative two line text display  and the option  of on screen graphics  the AV 5103 System Controller is both powerful and  simple to use  Most operations involve just one key press on the front panel  or handset     Despite the simplicity of its front panel  however  almost every aspect of the  System Controller can be configured in exactly the way you want  You can  define and control everything  the inputs you use for each of your sources   the name of those sources  the surround sound decoding options and  loudspeaker settings  The System Controller also provides a sophisticated  range of audio and video recording options  allowing you to record several  sources simultaneously without affecting what you are watching or hearing           d mn t  Sei u c t  ion       AM 5101 Personal Handset    The power and flexibili
