BLADE COVER Fig 1 Page 7 OPERATION A WARNING If any parts are missing do not operate unit until the missing parts are replaced Failure to do so could result in possible serious personal injury BATTERY PACK The battery pack for your tool has been shipped in a low charge condition to prevent possible problems Therefore you should charge it overnight prior to use NOTE Batteries will not reach full charge the first time they are charged Allow several cycles trimming followed by recharging for them to become fully charged CHARGING YOUR BATTERY PACK See Figure 2 e Charge battery pack only with the charging assembly provided e Make sure power supply is normal household voltage 120 volts 60 Hz AC only e Connect charging assembly to power supply e Place battery pack in charging assembly Align raised rib on battery pack with groove in charging assembly See Figure 2 e Press down on battery pack to be sure contacts on battery pack engage properly with contacts in charging assembly When properly connected red light on charging stand will turn on NOTE During the two year warranty period if the charge indicator light LED fails to come on or goes out while charging battery pack return charging assembly and battery pack to your nearest Authorized Homelite Service Center for repair or replacing e After normal usage 3 hours or less of charging time is required to fully recharge battery pack NOTE
2. oil to the inside contacting surfaces of the blades Do not over oil the blades e Reinstall the blades on the unit e Reinstall the four 4 blade screws and tighten to secure the blades in place e Always use the manufacturer s specified replace ment blades e Donotsharpen blades If blades become dull have them replaced Page 11 MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR GRASS SHEAR LUBRICATION All of the bearings in this tool are lubricated with a sufficient amount of high grade lubricant for the life of the unit under normal operating procedures There fore no further lubrication is required BATTERIES Your battery pack is equipped with Nickel Cadmium rechargeable batteries Length of service from each charging will depend on the type of work you are doing The batteries in this unit have been designed to provide maximum trouble free life However like all batteries they will eventually wear out DO NOT disassemble battery pack and attempt to replace the batteries Handling of these batteries especially when wearing rings and jewelry could result in serious burn To obtain the longest possible battery pack life we suggest the following e Store and charge your batteries in a cool area Temperatures above or below normal room temperature will shorten battery pack life e Never store batteries in a discharged condition Wait for battery pack to cool and charge immedi ately All batteries gradually lose their charge The hig

If battery pack is completely discharged 6 hours or longer of charging time is required to fully recharge battery pack e When battery pack has been charged disconnect charging assembly from power supply and remove the battery pack This practice will increase battery life e The battery pack will become slightly warm to the touch while charging This is normal and does not indicate a problem e DONOT place charger in an area of extreme heat or cold It will work best at normal room temperature BATTERY PACK CHARGING ASSEMBLY RED LIGHT LED Fig 2 IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR RECHARGING HOT BATTERIES When using your grass shear continuously the batteries in your battery pack will become hot You should let a hot battery pack cool down for approxi mately 30 minutes before attempting to recharge NOTE This situation only occurs when continuous use of your grass shear causes the batteries to become hot It does not occur under normal circum stances Refer to CHARGING BATTERY PACK for normal recharging of batteries If the charger does not charge your battery pack under normal circum stances return both the battery pack and charger assembly to your nearest Authorized Homelite Ser vice Center for electrical check Page 8 OPERATION TO INSTALL BATTERY PACK e Place the battery pack in the grass shear Align A CAUTION raised rib on battery pack with groove in grass When placing battery pack in your gr
4. only with charger listed BATTERY PACK 1311148 CHARGER 1411141 To reduce the risk of explosion and possible injury DO NOT place battery pack units or their batteries near fire or heat Do not open or mutilate the battery pack Re leased electrolyte is corrosive and may cause damage to the eyes or skin It may be toxic if swallowed Batteries vent hydrogen gas and can explode in the presence of a source of ignition such as a pilot light To reduce the risk of serious personal injury never use any cordless product in the presence of open flame An exploded battery pack can propel debris and chemical If exposed flush with water immediately Do not charge unit in a damp or wet location Following this rule will reduce the risk of electric shock RULES FOR SAFE OPERATION e For best results your battery unit should be charged in a location where the temperature is more than 50 F 10 C but less than 100 F 38 C Do not store outside or in vehicles e Under extreme usage or temperature conditions battery pack leakage may occur If liquid comes in contact with your skin wash immediately with soap and water then neutralize with lemon juice or vinegar If liquid gets into your eyes flush them with clean water for at least 10 minutes then seek immediate medical attention e A damaged battery pack is subject to explosion To avoid serious personal injury properly dispose of a damaged battery pack e Do not dispo

Bas use Use aclean cloth to remove dirt oil grease etc ig OPERATING TIPS CAUTION e Before starting your grass shear hold the unit with Do not at any time let brake fluids gasoline the cutting blades directed away from you Always petroleum based products penetrating oils etc use your grass shear properly Keep from trimming too close to dirt sand or gravel This can cause the blades to dull reducing the cutting efficiency come in contact with plastic parts They contain chemicals that may damage weaken or destroy plastics Page 10 MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR REPLACING BLADES A WARNING Blades are sharp When handling blades do not place your hand or fingers between blades or in any position where they could get pinched or cut NEVER touch blades or service unit with battery pack installed Dull blades cut poorly and put extra strain on the motor Replace the blades if they become dull from heavy use A new set of blades at the beginning of each season will speed cutting and extend the life of your grass shear e Remove battery pack from grass shear e Place grass shear upside down on a workbench and remove the four 4 blade screws See Figure 6 e Remove the old blades from unit See Figure 6 e Clean any grass from the bottom of the case Rotate the large gear to line up the gear post with the slot in the blade e Install the new blades on the unit e Reinstall the four 4 blade screw

10. and grease Check damaged parts Before further use of the grass shear any parts that are damaged should be carefully checked to determine that it will operate properly and perform it s intended func tion Check for alignment of moving parts binding of moving parts breakage of parts mounting and any other condition that may affect it s operation Any part that is damaged should be properly repaired or replaced by a Homelite Authorized Service Center unless indicated elsewhere in this manual Risk of cut Keep hands away from blades Do not attempt to remove cut material or hold material to be cut when blades are moving Make sure battery pack is removed and the trigger is re leased when clearing jammed material from blades Do not grasp the exposed cutting blades or cutting edges when picking up or holding the unit A CAUTION blades coast after unit is turned off Keep hands face and feet at a safe distance from moving parts Do not touch or try to stop the cutting blades when they are moving Always stop the motor when cutting is delayed or when walking from one cutting location to another Keep unit clean of grass clippings and other materials They may become lodged in the cutting blades Store the unit inside in a dry place either locked up or up high to prevent unauthorized use or damage Keep out of the reach of children or untrained individuals Replace blade cover when unit is not in use Never douse or squirt th
