1. 500V Reference Guide provides information and instructions for all the camera s features including troubleshooting tips To open the guide double click the icon on your computer desktop See page 15 for instructions on installing the Reference Guide For instructions on using the P I F software open the Help menu and select User s Guide If you still have questions after checking the information listed above contact Epson Technical Support as listed on page 47 Getting Started Before using your camera you need to follow the instructions in this section to Charge the battery with the included battery charger page 10 Install the memory card page 11 Install the battery page 12 Turn on the camera page 13 Set the current date and time page 14 Install the software on your computer page 15 Make sure you have all the items shown below Lithium ion Battery Charger battery charger power cable SD memory 4 YW card ay ar Gf Software CD ROM USB cable for connecting to a printer or computer Charging the Battery Be sure to charge the battery before you use it the first time or if you haven used it for a long time Charging takes about two hours A fully charged battery lets you take approximately 200 photos 1 10 Connect the small end of the battery charger power cable to the charger then plug the power cable into an electrical outlet Place the battery into th

W to select Language then move it to P 9 Move the joystick to A V 4 or P to select a language then press the OK button 14 Installing the Software To use all of your camera s special features install the software on your computer from the cameras CD ROM Windows 1 Insert the CD ROM in your CD ROM or DVD drive The Installer starts automatically If it doesn t start select My Computer and double click Epson Read the license agreement then click Agree You see this screen Epson L 500V Click Install then follow the on screen instructions If you don t have Adobe Reader or QuickTime click Custom instead of Install Select Adobe Reader and or Quicktime and click Install If you see a message asking you to restart select No will restart my computer later and click Finish When installation is complete click Exit and register your camera as instructed 15 Macintosh 1 Insert the CD ROM in your CD ROM or DVD drive 2 Double click the Epson CD ROM icon if necessary then double click the Epson icon 3 Read the license agreement then click Agree You see this screen 4 Click Install Epson L 500V P LF Software If you don t have Adobe Reader click Custom instead of Install Select Adobe Reader and click Install 5 Enter your administrator name and password if necessary You may have to do this more than once 6 Follow the on screen instructions to install
3. button To zoom out press the W wide angle button Once you start recording you can only zoom if you have digital zoom turned on see your Reference Guide for instructions 25 9 Press the shutter button all the way down to start recording 10 Press the shutter button again to stop recording Taking Photos With Fun Frames You can use P I F PRINT Image Framer to take pictures with a variety of frames for holidays and special occasions HAPPY BIRTHDAY 4 j Xx 2 gt 6 a Four frames are already stored in your camera and over 100 more frames are copied to your computer when you install the camera software You can use the PRINT Image Framer Tool to copy the frames from your computer to your memory card See the Reference Guide for details You can also modify the frames or create original frames using PIF Designer See page 15 for instructions on installing the software 26 To take a picture with a frame 1 Turn the Mode dial to automatic mm manual or i continuous Press the P I F button The first frame stored in the camera is displayed Select the frame you want by moving the joystick to A or F then press the OK button The selected frame is displayed on the LCD screen If you stored more frames on the memory card move the joystick to gt to move to the memory card frames Tip Most frames are available in both horizontal and vertical designs Make sure you choose th
4. each program Click Quit to continue as needed 7 When installation is com lete click Exit and register P 8 your camera as instructed 16 Taking and Viewing Photos You can take several different types of photos with your camera and then view them on the LCD screen Automatic photos Use automatically adjusted settings for great snapshots All you have to do is point and shoot See page 18 Manual photos Fine tune your shots by adjusting a variety of camera settings including resolution exposure compensation sensitivity white balance and more See page 20 Continuous photos Capture a series of shots up to 3 photos per second See page 23 Videos Record videos with sound The length of the video is limited only by the amount of storage you have See page 25 PRINT Image Framer P 1 F photos Take photos with fun frames for holidays and special occasions See page 26 When youre ready to view your photos on the LCD screen see page 28 17 Taking Photos in Automatic Mode Automatic photography mode lets you capture high resolution images without making complicated settings You can use the zoom buttons to move in closer to your subject and set the flash for indoor or low light photos In automatic mode images are captured at a resolution and quality setting of IN 2560 x 1920 pixels To change these settings use manual mode see page 20 Note You can also use the amp macro and or sel

Print an Album by moving the joystick to V Select the number of photos per page by moving the joystick to 4 or P then press the OK button The number of photos per page also selects the photos that will print For example if you re viewing the 4th to last photo when you select Print an Album and then select 4 photos per page the last 4 photos are printed on one page If you want to change print settings see page 40 8 Press the print button to start printing When printing is complete press the OK button Note You can t print images with P F frames or the date when you select Print an Album 39 Making Print Settings You can make the following settings when printing images directly from the camera D Paper size selection D Printing with or without white borders D Printing the date not available with frames or album printing D Printing with normal or high quality Note Once you change the paper size setting the camera retains it 10 x 15 cm paper is not available in the U S 1 After selecting the photos you want to print see page 35 to page 38 select Print Settings by moving the joystick to W then press the OK button 2 Select the item you want to change by moving the joystick to A or V then press the OK button 3 Select the setting by moving the joystick to A or Y then press the OK button 4 Press the MENU button to return to the print screen and print 40 Solving Problems Be

14. e To remove the battery open the battery cover as described in step 2 then release the white battery catch and take out the battery Turning Your Camera On and Off Before turning on your camera remove the protective film sheet covering the LCD screen D To turn on the camera press the POWER button on the top The LCD screen turns on If the camera is set to a shooting mode the lens cover opens and the lens pops out D To turn off the camera press the POWER button The lens retracts the lens cover closes and the LCD screen turns off as necessary POWER 4 button Remove sheet from LCD screen Setting the Language Date and Time When you turn on the camera for the first time you need to set the language date and time 1 Turn on the camera 2 Ifyou see the language screen move the joystick to gt to select English then press the OK button Move the joystick to A and press the OK button Then perform steps 5 to 7 to set the date and time If you don t see the language screen turn the Mode dial to SETUP Then go to step 3 3 Move the joystick to P to select Setup Menu 2 Move the joystick to W to select Date Time then move it to P 5 Move the joystick to 4 or P to select the date format date or time setting you want to change Move the joystick to A or W to change the settings Repeat steps 5 and 6 to select and set any other settings Then press the OK button 8 Move the joystick to

16. e charger The charge light comes on red If it doesn t come on reinstall the battery in the charger When the charge light turns green the battery is fully charged Remove the battery and unplug the charger from the outlet Installing the Memory Card Caution Turn off your camera before installing or removing the memory card Make sure you insert the card in the correct orientation or you may damage the camera and card 1 2 3 Make sure the camera is turned off Turn the camera on its left side Slide the battery cover until it pops up Position the card as shown and slide it all the way into the slot until it clicks into place Press down on the battery cover and slide it back into place Removing a Memory Card Note Your camera won t store photos and some of its buttons won t operate without a memory card correctly installed 1 Make sure the camera is turned off then slide the battery cover until it pops up 2 Push in the memory card to release it The card pops out 3 Pull out the memory card then press down on the battery cover and slide it back into place Installing the Battery 1 Turn the camera on its left side 2 Slide the battery cover until it pops up as shown 3 Insert the battery into the compartment positioning it as shown with the arrow facing down Press it down until it clicks into place 12 4 Press down on the battery cover and slide it back into plac

19. e the USB Type A cable that comes with your camera to connect it to your printer Make sure the camera is turned off before you begin USB cable You can conserve battery power by using the optional AC adapter when you print from the camera See the Reference Guide on your computer for instructions 1 Connect the large end of the USB cable to the correct EXT I F port on your printer 2 Open the connector cover on the side of the camera and plug the small end of the cable into the camera s USB port as shown 34 Printing Photos You can print all the photos in the camera or select the ones you want to print Images with PI F frames must be printed directly from the camera on a supported Epson printer see page 33 for a list of supported printers Before you start make sure your printer is set up and has ink installed Load Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper Premium Semigloss Photo Paper or PictureMate Photo Paper with PictureMate only in 4 x 6 inch A4 or Letter size if available Follow your printer instructions Printing the Photo Displayed on the Screen 1 Connect the camera to the printer as described on page 34 and turn on the camera Turn the Mode dial to amp playback Press the print button You see the print menu Move the joystick to lt or gt to display the photo you want to print Press the OK button to select Displayed Image If you want to print just one copy go to step 7 To print more
20. en press the OK button All the photos are deleted 5 Press the MENU button to exit the menu 30 Deleting a Group of Continuous Photos 1 2 Turn the Mode dial to amp playback Move the joystick to 4 or P to display one of a group of continuous photos Press the MENU button Playback Menu 1 is displayed Select Delete Group by moving the joystick to V and then to The continuous photo deletion screen appears To delete the entire group of continuous photos press the OK button To retain a continuous photo in the group move the joystick to 4 or gt to display the photo Then move it to V to remove the trash icon from the screen Repeat this step to retain more photos When you re ready to delete the rest of the continuous photo group press the OK button Move the joystick to A to select OK then press the OK button The photos are deleted Press the MENU button to exit the menu 31 Adding Changing or Removing Frames You can add change or remove a PI frame on an existing photo using the frames stored in your camera See page 26 for more information about PI F 1 Turn the Mode dial to amp playback 2 Select the photo on which you want to add change or remove a frame by moving the joystick to lt or P 3 Press the P I F button You see the first frame stored in the camera or on your memory card To switch between frames in the camera and frames on the memory card move the joy
