6. nozzle check pattern Replacing an Ink Cartridge HT Li When the 68 maintenance and power lights are both flashing one of your ink cartridges is low on ink This is a good time to make sure you have a new cartridge When the 08 maintenance and power lights both stay on an ink cartridge is empty and you need to replace it Caution You cannot print if either ink cartridge is empty Leave the empty cartridge installed in the printer until you have obtained a replacement otherwise the ink remaining in the print head nozzles may dry out When an installed ink cartridge is more than six months old you may also need to replace it if you notice that your printouts don t look as good as they used to If print quality doesn t improve after cleaning and aligning the print head you can replace the cartridge even if the 08 maintenance and power lights aren t flashing Maintaining Your Printer 39 Use these Epson ink cartridges within six months of installing them and before the expiration date on the package m Black T007201 E Color T009201 Caution To ensure good results use genuine Epson ink cartridges and do not refill them Other products may cause damage to your printer not covered by Epson s warranty You can purchase genuine Epson ink and paper from an authorized Epson reseller To find the nearest reseller please call 800 GO EPSON 800 463 7766 To purchase online visit www epson

18. d needs to be cleaned When the error light is on or flashing the ink while the power light iS flashing cartridge must be replaced before the pirt head can be cleaned unless the printer hasn t moved or made noise for more than 5 minutes sT Ancel 5 When the power light stops flashing run a nozzle check to confirm that the print head nozzles are clean Make sure paper is loaded in the printer and click Print Nozzle Check Pattern Windows or Confirmation Macintosh Then click Print The nozzle check pattern prints see the next section for details 6 Ifthe nozzle check pattern has no gaps in its lines click Finish If the pattern has white lines click Clean to clean the print head again If you don t see any improvement after cleaning three or four times check the solutions in Print Quality Problems on page 54 You can also turn the printer off and wait overnight this allows any dried ink to soften and then try cleaning the print head again 38 Maintaining Your Printer Examining the Nozzle Check Pattern Examine the nozzle check pattern you print It should look something like this l LL Each staggered horizontal and straight vertical line should be complete with no gaps in the dot pattern If your printout looks okay you re done If there are gaps in the lines clean the print head again see page 37 for instructions Gaps in

20. e a soft brush to clean any dust or dirt from the sheet feeder 4 Clean the exterior of the printer with a soft damp cloth 5 Clean ink out of the printer s interior with a soft damp cloth Caution Don t touch the gears inside the printer Never use a hard or abrasive brush or alcohol or thinner for cleaning they can damage the printer components and case Don t get water on the printer components and don t spray lubricants or oils inside the printer Don t use any cleaning sheets included with special media they may Jam inside the printer Maintaining Your Printer 45 ee Transporting the Printer If you move your printer some distance you need to prepare it for transportation in its original box or one of a similar size Follow these steps Caution To avoid damage always leave the ink cartridges installed when transporting the printer Be sure to remove the tape used in step 4 after installing the printer in its new location 1 Turn on the printer wait until the print head locks in the far right position then turn the printer off 2 Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet Then disconnect the printer cable from the printer 3 Remove any paper from the printer and remove the paper support 4 Open the printer cover Secure the ink Tape the ink cartridge holder to the printer with tape as cartridge holder to the printer case shown then close the printer cover 5 Push in the output tra
21. e right end of the adapter Otherwise your roll paper won t load correctly and you may see an error Loading Paper 15 8 Feed the end of the paper into the printer as far as it will go then slide the left edge guide against the paper 9 Gently rotate the roll backward to remove any slack from the paper 10 Make sure the output tray is open but the extensions are closed and leave ample room at the front of the printer for your paper to eject smoothly 11 Gently hold the paper in place as you press and release the amp roll paper button to feed the paper into the printer Note Don t force the paper to feed into the printer Allow the paper to move automatically Make sure you press the amp roll paper button when you feed roll paper Pressing the D maintenance button by mistake may cause paper feeding problems 16 Loading Paper If the Roll Paper Jams or Feeds Incorrectly If the roll paper feeds incorrectly do the following l Press the amp roll paper button for three seconds to rewind the paper You may have to do this more than once to rewind the paper completely If the paper is jammed and won t rewind turn the printer off Then cut the roll at a point a few inches away from where it exits the printer Make your cut as straight as possible to avoid further feeding problems Gently pull the roll backward to rewind it and then turn the printer on again After you rewind the paper the 6 maintenance l
