W1000_User_Guide 19 e Avoid dropping or knocking the unit e Dust the unit regularly W ipe the unit with asoft damp cloth Do not use detergents and avoid excess moisture e The Walker Clarity is an electrical device Avoid electric shock by keeping the phone away from water i e bath room kitchen sink etc Page 19 11 15 99 9 38 PM Trouble Shooting Guide A SS Dialing Problems e Can t Dial Out Make sure that TO N E PULSE switch is not set in the middle Slide the switch fully to the left or the right If you have the TO N E PU LSE switch set to TONE make sure that you have TouchTone service from your local phone company e Phone Doesn t Dial Out On First Attempt Your phone may be at the end ofa long line of phones due to the way the phone company installed the wiring in your neighborhood In this case your phone may not get enough power from the phone line Try waiting 3 5 seconds after lifting the handset before dialing the number W ait for the sound level indicator to light solid before dialing Page 20 W1000_User_Guide 20 2 Programming Problems A eCan t Store Numbers Into Memory Your new Clarity phone must charge for two 2 hours before you can program any numbers into it Ee e Loss Of Numbers Programmed Into Memory Your Clarity phone will maintain its memory for up to 12 hours during a power loss

Important Wait at least two hours after installing for the phone to charge before you begin programming HOSPITAL To Program Emergency Numbers into the Clarity Phone Hospital T he W alker Clarity will let you store up to 15 digits with each button 1 Select the number you wish to store for each of the three emergency 2 Select the correct TO N E PULSE buttons They are labeled with for setting you normally dial in Remember Fire Department EI for Police some long distance services require Department and for Doctor or TONE dialing W 1000 Page 15 W1000_User_Guide 15 amp 11 15 99 9 38 PM Programming Continued 3 Pick up the handset from the phone base press and release the PRO GRAM button on the base unit 4 Dial the number you wish to store The number is not transmitted while you are programming it You can program a pause into the dialing sequence if necessary Since there is not a separate pause button on the phone the redial button serves this purpose during programming Remember you can store up to 15 digits and the pause function counts as 1 of those digits N ote Programming in the pause function will cause the phone to wait 3 seconds before dialing any more numbers For example Pressing a memory button that has 9 lt P gt 555 1212 programmed into it will dial the number 9 then wait 3 seconds and dial 555 1212 In most cases you will not need to use a pause 5 P

If you unplug the phone from the telephone line for long periods or lose your phone service for an extended period of time you will need to reprogram the phone W 1000 11 15 99 9 38 PM Troubleshooting Continued e Difficulty Programming Account Numbers Your TONE PULSE selector must be switched to the TO NE mode to enter account numbers T his is because most interactive phone systems require TOUCH TONE to operate If your phone service is rotary service you must have the switch set to PULSE to dial a number O nce you are connected move the switch to TONE and enter your responses usingTO UCH TONE mode W hen your call is complete move the switch back to PULSE so you are ready to make your next call Contre e Interference From Household Appliances Your Clarity phone may be located near a touch lamp microwave or W 1000 W1000_User_Guide 21 refrigerator which may cause interfer ence Relocating your phone to another area may eliminate the problem cordless phone on your phone line may also cause static Try discon necting your cordless phone for several days This may eliminate the problem e Interference From Malfunctioning Frayed Or Poorly Connected Telephone Cords Check your phone cords and con nections Try interchanging cords with another phone Replace any defective equipment Feedback Problems e Feedback OccursW hen Handset Is Set Down
8. a Call 1 Adjust the Clarity Control to its lowest setting zero 2 Pick up the handset and listen for the caller s voice or a dial tone W atch the green sound level light located on the phone base next to the program button It will be bright and steady when a dial tone is present It will flash in rhythm with a busy signal Page 14 W1000_ User Guide 14 The light will flicker when the person on the other end of the phone is talking 3 W hen placing a call dial as you would any phone and wait for someone to answer 4 Adjust the Clarity Power Control upwards to a level where the other party s voice is heard loud and clear and begin conversation 5 W hen you complete the call return the handset to the base unit and slide the Clarity Power Control back down to its lowest setting this will let other users adjust the Clarity Power Control to their level N ote If you made an error while dialing just depress the hookswitch listen for a dial tone and dial again W 1000 11 15 99 9 38 PM Programming Emergency Number Into Memory TheW alker Clarity allows you to program in three emergency numbers for future use By doing so you will only have to press one button to call an emergency ser vice i e Ambulance or Doctor fire Department Police Department As a matter of safety also write these important numbers on the FIRE quick reference card under the receiver POLICE

11. switch from tone to pulse during a call 2K XK k OK OK xk Important You must have tone signaling Service to use the TONE feature on the Walker Clarity If in doubt contact your local telephone company To Set the TONE PULSE Switch 1 Move the switch towards the correct setting 2 Depress the hookswitch once Page 12 W1000_User_Guide 12 3 The phone will now dial in the mode you selected Last Number Redial Last N umber Redial allows you to automatically redial the last telephone number you called T his feature is convenient for redialing numbers which are busy The phone number stored for redial will be reset with every new call you make To Operate Last Number Redial 1 Depress the hookswitch to get a new dial tone 2 Press the Redial Button once 3 Stay on the line and your call will be dialed The last number dialed will be stored in the W alker Clarity for you until you dial another number or disconnect the telephone from the wall jack W 1000 11 15 99 9 38 PM Features Continued Flash Flash is a special feature that is required to use some calling ser vices provided by your local phone company such as call waiting Consult your guide to these services which is available from your local phone company Flash serves the same purpose as pressing and releasing the hook switch very quickly To Use the Flash Feature Simply press the Flash button at the appropria

17. ghted ringer works in conjunction with the low frequency ringer It sends out a visual flashing alert every time a phone call is coming in This ringer will light up regardless of the setting on the ringer volume control Ringer Pitch Control The ringer also has a pitch control that has three settings LO W MED and HIGH The low frequency is typically the easiest for people with partial hearing loss to hear It is suggested that you set the pitch control to low the smallest dot when you start using the phone Tone Pulse Selection The Clarity Phone can be used as either aTONE touch dial or PULSE rotary dial phone Tone dialing is required for using special phone services such as long distance calling Page 11 11 15 99 9 38 PM Features Continued Note for Users with Pulse Rotary service only M any automated answering systems used by banks stores and government agencies ask you to Push 1 for service Push 2 for the operator etc You must switch the tone pulse switch on the top edge of the phone to tone before responding to these prompts In summary dial the phone number you want to call in pulse mode switch to tone mode to interact with the automated answering system switch back to pulse mode when your call is done W hen switching from Pulse to Tone during a call there will be a 3 second delay from the time you first push a key in tone mode until the key press is transmitted You cannot

21. ress the PRO GRAM button again and then the appropriate Emergency Button Page 16 W1000_User_Guide 16 6 Repeat steps 3 4 and 5 for the other two Emergency Buttons 7 Place handset back into cradle To Dial Programmed Emergency Number 1 Pick up the handset and listen for a dial tone 2 Press the appropriate Emergency Button 3 The number will be dialed auto matically Important The emergency buttons are not preprogrammed for 911 You must do this yourself Use a preprinted 911 label and paste it over the button you program for 911 Use other write on labels to identify any numbers you wish to program into the two remaining emergency buttons W 1000 11 15 99 9 38 PM Programming Frequently Dialed Numbers TheW alker Clarity will allow you to program up to ten 10 frequently dialed phone numbers for future use By doing so you will only have to press one button to call numbers that you normally dial often e g Friends Relatives etc The need to keep these important numbers handy is eliminated the W alker Clarity remembers them for you Important Wait at least two hours after installing for phone to charge before you begin programming To Program Frequently Dialed Numbers into the Walker Clarity 1 Choose up to ten phone numbers you wish to store The W alker Clarity will let you store up to 15 digits for each number W 1000 W1000_User_Guide 17 Write Eme

23. rs j Sog Am SS S To Dial a Frequently Dialed Number 1 Pick up the handset and listen for a dial tone 2 Press the appropriate Memory button 3 The number will be dialed automatically To change a Frequently D ialed number simply follow the normal programming steps W 1000 11 15 99 9 38 PM Programming Continued Cascade Dialing Your W alker Clarity will store up to 15 digits per memory location in tone mode and 16 digits in pulse mode On some occasions you may wish to program a number that is longer than 15 digits such as international calls Suppose you wanted to store 011 44 0123 123 456 but you had to also dial 9 for an outside line and pause to wait for a dial tone This is 17 digits and exceeds the capacity of one memory location You can split the number up and save it in two memory locations For example save 9 lt pause gt 011 44 in memory 1 and 0123123456 in memory To Dial the Number 1 Lift the handset listen for a dial tone 2 Push memory 1 and then memory 2 immediately thereafter 3 The Walker Clarity will automatically dial the whole number 4 W ait for the person you are calling to answer You can cascade any number of memory locations The W alker Clarity has been designed to give you years of dependable service with a minimum of care To ensure the utmost in performance follow these guidelines in caring for the unit W 1000
