USER S GUIDE 2550 About This Manual Mode icons The display of this watch uses two LCD panels that make it possible to display mode icons numbers formed with segments dot matrix characters etc e Button operations are indicated using the letters shown in the illustration Keypad keys are indicated by their main keycap markings within square brackets in bold such as 2 e Each section of this manual provides you with the information you need to perform operations in each mode Further details and technical information can be found in the Reference section General Guide The first thing you need to do when using this watch is to enter the proper mode To select a mode first display the Mode Menu screen by pressing and then press the keypad key that corresponds to the mode you want e Each mode is identified by a mode icon on the Mode Menu For easy understanding mode icons are arranged on the Mode Menu in the same relative positions as the keypad keys you need to press to enter the modes e When you enter a mode the corresponding mode icon flashes on the display for about two seconds After that the mode screen appears on the display Mode icons See Keypad Note Pressing while the Mode Menu is on the display toggles the key input tone on and off Mode Icon Mode Icon Timekeeping Mode World Time Mode e DATA MEMORY Mode Alarm Mode Countdown Timer Telememo Mod
12. ace whenever you are reading the display of the watch using the auto light switch Be especially careful when running or engaged in any other activity that can result in accident or injury Also take care that sudden illumination by the auto light switch does not surprise or distract others around you e When you are wearing the watch make sure that its auto light switch is turned off before riding on a bicycle or operating a motorcycle or any other motor vehicle Sudden and unintended operation of the auto light switch can create a distraction which can result in a traffic accident and serious personal injury To turn the auto light switch on and off While the Mode Menu or Timekeeping Mode screen is on the display hold down for about two seconds to toggle the auto light switch on 5 displayed and off 345 not displayed e The auto light switch on indicator 5 is on the display in all modes while the auto light switch is turned on e In order to protect against running down the battery the auto light switch automatically turns off approximately six hours after you turn it on Repeat the above procedure to turn the auto light switch back on if you want Reference This section contains more detailed and technical information about watch operation It also contains important precautions and notes about the various features and functions of this watch Auto Display Auto Display continually changes the contents of the a sE d
13. e If there is no record whose name Sane wii ua character you specify using keys 2 through 9 the message Memek P appears for about one second e The name display can show only fies characters at a time so longer names scroll continuously from right to left Scrolling pauses for about one second when the end of the name is reached e Pressing while the last Telememo record is on the display or pressing 1 while the first record is on the display displays the remaining memory screen To edit a Telememo record 1 In the Telememo Mode display the record you want to edit 2 Hold down until the flashing cursor appears on the display 3 Use right and left to move the flashing to the character you want to change 4 Use keypad keys to change the character e See Inputting Text for more information 5 After making the changes you want press to store them and return to the Telememo record screen To delete a Telememo record 1 In the Telememo Mode display the record you want to delete 2 Hold down until the flashing cursor appears on the display 3 Hold down 8 until the message iF appears on the display e After the record is deleted the cursor appears on the display 4 Input data or press to return to the remaining memory screen Calculator The Calculator Mode lets you perform addition subtraction multiplication and division using 8 digit values 7 digits for negative values b

15. e auto light switch whenever engaging in activities that might cause frequent illumination of the display e The backlight may not light if the face of the watch is More than 15 degrees more than 15 degrees above or below parallel Make too high sure that the back of your hand is parallel to the ground The backlight turns off in about two seconds even if you keep the watch pointed towards your face Static electricity or magnetic force can interfere with proper operation of the auto light switch If the backlight does not light try moving the watch back to the starting position parallel with the ground and then tilt it back toward you again If this does not work drop your arm all the way down so it hangs at your side and then bring it back up again Under certain conditions the backlight may not light until about one second after you turn the face of the watch towards you This does not necessarily indicate malfunction of the backlight The indicator BATT flashes on the display any time battery power is below a certain level Low battery power can cause the following conditions to occur e Dim difficult to read display characters e Failure of the backlight and beeper tone operations Home emt cnv e Inability to perform e DATA MEMORY and Telememo Mode operations If battery power goes low while you are inputting e DATA MEMORY or Telememo data the data you are inputting may not be saved in memory Normal watch operation will ret

20. igital display To turn off Auto Display Press any button except for or key to turn off Auto HOME GMT CITY1 CITY2 Display To turn on Auto Display Hold down for about three seconds e Note that Auto Display cannot be performed while a setting screen is on the display Inputting Text The following describes how to input text in the e DATA MEMORY Telememo and Alarm Modes To input characters Press the keypad keys to input characters at the cursor Character type indicator position You can input upper alpha characters f through Cursor lower alpha characters 2 through numbers 3 through and various symbols e Each key is assigned more than one character Each press of a key sequentially changes the character at the cursor position Pressing 2 for example changes the characters at the cursor position in the sequence gt key can input are printed on the key itself Symbols are not marked on the key e Each press of 0 toggles input between zero and a space Pressing pm cycles through the various symbols that can be input e The B button acts as a delete button during text input Move the cursor to the character you want to delete and then press 8 Characters to the right of the deleted character are shifted left to fill the space e To switch between upper case and lower case characters press during text input The character type indicator shows A when upper case is selected
