3. e Let the paper run out before refilling the multi purpose tray Avoid mixing new stock with paper already loaded Do not leave paper stacked in the multi purpose tray for long periods of time since it may bend or curl and cause problems e Certain environmental conditions such as extreme temperatures or humidity can cause some paper to misfeed in the multi purpose tray If you have trouble feed one sheet at a time e Depending on the density of the printed pages the ink may need time to dry Within two or three seconds the ink becomes smudge resistant After drying for several minutes the ink becomes water resistant e If your printed page contains a large amount of graphics the ink on the page may be damp due to the print density Leave the page for 30 to 60 seconds to allow the ink to dry Then remove the page carefully without touching any surfaces e If paper curls after printing remove it immediately otherwise paper jams may occur e The platen a roller inside the fax may become inked if you print data beyond the width of the page If this happens clean inside the fax see p 9 4 1 11 Loading paper in the multi purpose tray Follow the procedure below to load paper in the multi purpose tray 1 Open the printer cover using the printer 2 Press Cartridge cover tab see p 2 2 3 Make sure the paper thickness lever is set 4 Raise the paper rest until it stops then to D left move the paper guide

16. 13 e Do not use tissue paper paper towels or similar materials for cleaning they can stick to the components or generate static charges Never use volatile liquids such as thinners benzene acetone or any other chemical cleaner to clean the interior of the fax these can damage its components Caution Cleaning the exterior of the fax Follow the procedure below to clean the outer casing of the fax 1 Disconnect the power cord from the fax 2 Wipe the exterior of the fax with a clean soft lint free cloth moistened with water or diluted dishwashing detergent solution 3 When you are finished reconnect the power cord Cleaning the interior of the fax E Cleaning inside the printer cover To prevent ink spots and paper dust from accumulating inside the fax and affecting print quality clean the print area of the fax periodically Follow the procedure below to clean inside the fax 1 Disconnect the power cord from the fax 2 Open ne Pia oo using the printer cover tab see p 2 Do not touch the components or any metal parts since this may adversely Caution affect operation of the fax and or affect print quality Periodic cleaning 3 Use a clean soft dry lint free cloth to 4 When you are finished close the printer remove any ink or paper debris from the cover interior of the fax shaded area especially around the platen 5 Reconnect the power cord Be careful not to touch the BJ cartridge

19. 7 1 Cannot receive a document manually You may have disconnected the call by pressing Start or dialling the remote receiving ID after hanging up the handset of the extension phone e Always press Start or dial the remote receiving ID before hanging up the handset otherwise you will disconnect the call U Print quality is poor You may not be using the correct type of paper e Make sure you load paper that meets the paper requirements for the fax see pp 1 11 4 2 The BJ cartridge print head may need cleaning e Clean the BJ cartridge print head if necessary see p 9 8 The sending fax machine may not be functioning properly e The sending fax machine usually determines the quality of the document Call the sender and have them make sure the top cover and scanning glass of their fax machine are clean Error Correction Mode ECM may be disabled e Make sure ECM is on see ECM RX p 8 5 9 14 Troubleshooting UI Faxes do not print The BJ cartridge may not be installed properly e Make sure the BJ cartridge is installed properly see p 1 9 e Be sure to remove the orange protective tape from the BJ cartridge before you install it see p 1 9 The BJ cartridge print head may need cleaning e Clean the BJ cartridge print head if necessary see p 9 8 The BJ cartridge may need to be replaced e Determine if the problem is with the BJ cartridge and replace if necessary see p 9 8 UI Fax images print
