Check the following e The volume may be muted In Windows look at the volume control speaker icon on the taskbar If it is crossed out click on the icon and deselect the Mute option e The volume level may be too low In Windows look at the volume control icon on the taskbar You can also use the volume control buttons to adjust the volume See Hot keys on page 17 for more detail e If headphones earphones or external speakers are connected to the line out port on the computer s left panel the internal speakers automatically turn off want to eject the optical drive tray without turning on the power cannot eject the optical drive tray There is a mechanical eject button on the optical drive Simply insert the tip of a pen or paperclip and push to eject the tray 55 The keyboard does not respond Try attaching an external keyboard to a USB 2 0 port on the rear or left of the computer If it works contact your dealer or an authorised service center as the internal keyboard cable may be loose The infrared port does not work Check the following e Make sure that the infrared ports of the two devices are facing each other 15 degrees a maximum of 1 metre apart e Make sure there is a clear path between the two infrared ports Nothing should be blocking the ports e Make sure you have the appropriate software running on both devices for file transfers or you have the appropriate drivers for pri

6. e If it is lit check the following e Is anon bootable non system disc in the external USB floppy drive Remove or replace it with a system disc and press lt Ctri gt lt Alt gt lt Del gt to restart the system Nothing appears on the screen The computer s power management system automatically blanks the screen to save power Press any key to turn the display back on If pressing a key does not turn the display back on three things might be the cause e The brightness level might be too low Press lt Fn gt lt gt increase to adjust the brightness level e The display device might be set to an external monitor Press the display toggle hot key lt Fn gt lt F5 gt to toggle the display back to the computer e Ifthe Sleep indicator is lit the computer is in Sleep mode Press and release the power button to resume 54 Troubleshooting my computer Image is not full screen The computer display has a native resolution of 1024 x 768 XGA for the 14 1 15 0 screens If you set the resolution lower than this the screen expands to fill the computer display Right click on your Windows desktop and select Properties to bring up the Display Properties dialog box Then click on the Settings tab to make sure that the resolution is set to the appropriate resolution Resolutions lower than the specified resolution are not full screen on the computer or on an external monitor No audio is heard from the computer

Web browser Internet browser application User programmable e eManager User programmable P User programmable 21 Touchpad The built in touchpad is a pointing device that senses movement on its surface This means the cursor responds as you move your finger on the surface of the touchpad The central location on the palmrest provides optimum comfort and support Touchpad basics The following items teach you how to use the touchpad 7 e Move your finger across the touchpad to move the cursor e Press the left 1 and right 3 buttons located on the edge of the touchpad to do selection and execution functions These two buttons are similar to the left and right buttons on a mouse Tapping on the touchpad is the same as clicking the left button e Use the 4 way scroll 2 button to scroll up or down and move left or right a page This button mimics your cursor pressing on the right scroll bar of windows applications 22 Execute Click twice quickly Select Click once Drag Click and hold then use finger to drag the cursor on the touchpad Access context menu Click once Tap twice at the same speed as double clicking a mouse button Tap once Tap twice at the same speed as double clicking a mouse button hold finger to the touchpad on the second tap and drag the cursor Note Keep your fingers dry and clean when using the touchpad Also keep the touchpad dry and clean The touc

15. the computer close and latch the display cover to place it in Sleep mode You can now safely take the computer anywhere you go within the building To bring the computer out of Sleep mode open the display then press and release the power button If you are taking the computer to a client s office or a different building you may choose to shut down the computer 1 Click on Start Shut Down or Turn off Computer Windows XP Or 30 you can put the computer in Sleep mode by pressing lt Fn gt lt F4 gt Then close and latch the display When you are ready to use the computer again unlatch and open the display then press and release the power button Note If the Sleep indicator is off the computer has entered Hibernation mode and turned off If the power indicator is off but the Sleep indicator is on the computer has entered Sleep mode In both cases press and release the power button to turn the computer back on Note that the computer may enter Hibernation mode after being in Sleep mode for a period of time What to take to short meetings A fully charged battery runs the computer for about 2 5 hours If your meeting is shorter than that you probably do not need to take anything with you other than the computer What to bring to long meetings If your meeting lasts longer than 2 5 hours or if your battery is not fully charged you may want to take the AC adaptor with you to plug in your computer while in t
16. to excessive heat Changes in temperature and humidity can cause condensation Allow the computer to return to room temperature and inspect the screen for condensation before turning on the computer If the temperature change is greater than 18 F 10 C allow the computer to come to room temperature slowly If possible leave the computer for 30 minutes in an environment with a temperature between outside and room temperature 32 Setting up a home office If you frequently work on your computer at home you may want to purchase a second AC adaptor for use at home With a second AC adaptor you can avoid carrying the extra weight to and from home If you use your computer at home for significant periods of time you might also want to add an external keyboard monitor or mouse Traveling with the computer When you are moving within a larger distance for instance from your office building to a client s office building or traveling locally Preparing the computer Prepare the computer as if you were taking it home Make sure that the battery in the computer is charged Airport security may require you to turn on your computer when carrying it into the gate area What to take with you Take the following items with you e AC adaptor e Spare fully charged battery pack s e Additional printer driver files if you plan to use another printer Special considerations In addition to the guidelines for taking the computer
