Beginning to Write an AV Script The basis for this tutorial script is the short training video How To Use Final Draft AV which is a avail able for viewing on the Final Draft AV Install Disc and online at www finaldraft com products av how to php4 We strongly suggest you view it 1 Open Final Draft AV A new blank script window appears ready for you to begin typing When a new script is created the insertion point resides in a Video Description element INSERTION POINT EE Status Bar at the bottom of the script window indicates which element type the insertion point is currently in NOTE 1 Type Final Draft AV Box The screen now appears as INSERTION POINT FINAL DRAFT AV 44 Tutorials 2 Press Tab Or Press Control Ctrl 2 Windows or Command Cmd 2 Mac Or Click the green Character icon in the toolbar Or Choose Insert gt Character 5 Or m Click the right mouse button and choose Insert gt Character from the Contextual Menu The insertion point moves to the Audio column and a Character element is created By default a colon is automatically entered as a suffix after the character s name VIDEO AUDIO INSERTION POINT Final Draft AV Box f 1 3 NARRATOR By default a Character Name is in all caps and underlined The screen appears as 8 Final Draft AV Box NARRATOR INSERTION POINT Before we continue

14. 29 Getting Started Differences Between Previous Versions of Final Draft AV and Version 2 5 Please refer to the individual sections in the User Manual for details Any script file written in previous versions can be opened in Version 2 5 Toolbar Icons The toolbar icons have been changed and the toolbar can be customized Windows View Toolbar Customize and Mac View Customize Toolbar Templates The term Stationery is no longer used It has been replaced by Template Default Template The default template s font has been changed to Arial Instant Elements In previous versions an element had to be manually created everywhere A simple mouse click will cre ate specific elements Rearrange Guide Line Rearrange provides the ability to drag and drop any video text and have it line up with any audio text or vice versa This enables scenes and shots to be easily reordered after they are written The Rearrange Guide Line indicates precisely where the selected text will line up when dropped This functionally is not available in any other word processor Importing Importing of files with and without tables has been enhanced significantly Both plain text files TXT and Rich Text Files RTF can now be imported In addition when there are 3 or more columns in a doc ument a special import dialog appears to determine how the text will be formatted in Final Draft AV Save As A few new options have been adde
