3. 7 3 Creating savepacks e Overview Within Arkeia version 5 a Savepack can be defined as a group of objects that should be saved to tape by a backup operation The objects that Arkeia can backup can be machines entire disks directories individual files or plug ins Within the Arkeia archi tecture a plug in is an additional program that is treated as a file system by Arkeia For instance within a Savepack named Large B U it is possible to add e Six entire disks from a machine named foobar Several directories from a machine named snafu One plug in from a machine named r t fm Whenever the Large B U Savepack is chosen as the target of a backup operation all these objects from the three different machines all these object will be saved together from the three different Arkeia client to the Arkeia server Furthermore all the objects or trees can have different options applied to them For instance in the example detailed above all the directories from the machine named snafu can be compressed if they are quite large while the data from the plug in should be encrypted to protect its confidentiality All these operations are made possible through the definition of the Savepack A Savepack is therefore a very powerful tool in the hands of the person responsible for protecting the data of a network This section will study the creation of a Savepack as well as the different option
