1. Whether your goal is to burn fat or to strengthen your cardiovascular system the key to achieving the desired results is to exercise with the proper intensity The proper intensity level can be found by using your heart rate as a guide The chart below shows recom mended heart rates for fat burning and aerobic exercise HEART RATE TRAINING ZONES AEROBIC 165 155 145 130 125 115 MAX FAT BURN 145 138 130 118 110 103 FAT BURN 125 120 115 105 95 90 Age 20 30 40 60 70 80 To find the proper heart rate for you first find your age near the bottom of the chart ages are rounded off to the nearest ten years Next find the three numbers above your age The three numbers define your train ing zone The lower two numbers are recommended heart rates for fat burning the higher number is the recommended heart rate for aerobic exercise To measure your heart rate during exercise use the pulse sensor on the handrail If your heart rate is too high or too low adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill Fat Burning To burn fat effectively you must exercise at a relatively low intensity level for a sustained period of time During the first few minutes of exercise your body uses easily accessible carbohydrate calories for en ergy Only after the first few minutes does your body begin to use stored fat calories for energy If your goal is to burn fat adjust the speed and incline of the tread mill until your heart rat

For simplicity all instructions in this section refer to miles MAINTENANCE AND TROUBLE SHOOTING Most treadmill problems can be solved by following the steps below Find the symptom that applies and follow the steps listed If further assistance is needed please call our Customer Service Department 1 SYMPTOM The power does not turn on a Check the circuit breaker located on the treadmill near the Check the on off switch located on the treadmill near the Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a properly earthed outlet See HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD on page 7 If an extension cord is needed use only a 3 conductor 14 gauge 1mm cord that is no longer than 5 feet 1 5 meters After the power cord has been plugged in make sure that the key is inserted into the console as far as it will go See step 1 on page 9 Cc Tripped 0 power cord If the switch protrudes as shown the circuit breaker has tripped To reset the circuit breaker wait for five minutes and then press the switch back in power cord The switch must be in the on position a n Position 2 SYMPTOM The power turns off during use a b Cc d Check the circuit breaker located on the treadmill frame near the power cord see 1 c above If the circuit breaker has tripped wait for five minutes and then press the switch back in Make sure that the power cord is plugged in Remove the key from the console Reinsert
4. able to lift each side of the walking belt 3 to 4 inches 5 to 7 cm off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centred Plug in the power cord insert the key and carefully walk on the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened CONSOLE DIAGRAM A LED matrix and track The LED matrix and track let you watch your progress as you walk or run on the treadmill B Displays These displays provide exercise feed back C Program indicators These indicators light when a workout program or a custom program is selected D Program profiles These profiles show how the incline or speed of the treadmill will change during workout programs E Manual indicator This indicator lights when the manual mode is selected F Record button This button is used to program ACAUTION Before operating the console read the following precautions Do not stand on the walking belt when turn ing on the power Always wear the clip attached to the key whilst operating the treadmill If the key is pulled from the console the walking belt will automatically stop Adjust the speed in small increments to avoid sudden jumps in speed To reduce the possibility of electric shock keep the console dry Avoid spilling liquids on the console and place only a sealed water bottle in the water bo
5. flashing CURRENT PERIOD column of the LED matrix The incline settings are not shown in the matrix CURRENT PERIOD When only three seconds remain in the first pe riod both the CURRENT PERIOD column and the column to the right will flash and a series of tones will sound All speed settings will then move one column to the left The speed setting for the sec ond period will then be shown in the CURRENT PERIOD column and the speed and incline of the treadmill will adjust to the second settings that you programmed previously The program will continue until the speed setting for the last period is shown in the CURRENT PE RIOD column of the LED matrix and the time in cline display counts down to zero The walking belt will then slow to a stop During the program the speed and incline settings of the current period can be adjusted with the speed and incline buttons Adjustments will not be stored in memory To reprogram speed and in cline settings press the record button The record indicator will light Speed and incline settings can be reprogrammed only when the indicator is lit Next adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill with the speed and incline buttons When the current period of the program is completed the new speed and incline settings will be stored in memory When you have reprogrammed speed and incline settings for as many periods as de sired press the record button agai
6. hands When your 10 pulse is detected the heart shaped indicator in the cals fat cals pulse display will flash steadily and a P will appear After a few seconds your heart rate will be shown For the most accurate heart rate reading continue to hold the contacts for about 15 seconds When you are finished exercising press the stop button and remove the key Step onto the foot rails press the stop button and remove the key from the console Keep the key in a secure place In addition move the on off switch to the off position and unplug the power cord HOW TO USE THE WORKOUT PROGRAMS 1 Insert the key into the console A moment after the key is inserted the four displays and various indicators will light Press the mode button to select the desired workout program When the key is inserted the manual mode will be selected as shown by the manual indicator To select one of the workout pro grams press the mode button repeatedly until one of the four incline program in dicators or one of the six speed program indica tors lights Program Indicators Note Incline programs 1 and 2 and speed programs 1 2 and 3 are twenty minutes long all other pro grams are thirty minutes long The profiles on the sides of the console show how the incline or speed of the treadmill will change during the programs During incline program 1 for example the incline will gradually increase during the firs

8. rate if desired 7 See step 6 on page 10 When the program is completed remove the key Step onto the foot rails and remove the key from the console Keep the key in a secure place In addition move the on off switch to the off position and unplug the power cord 11 12 HOW TO CREATE CUSTOM PROGRAMS The custom 1 and custom 2 programs are workout programs that you create The programs control both the incline and the speed of the treadmill and can be up to 40 minutes long The programs are stored in the console s memory and can be changed as many times as desired Follow the steps below to create a custom program 1 Insert the key into the console A moment after the key is inserted the four dis plays and various indicators will light Press the mode button to select a custom workout program When the key is in serted the manual mode will be selected as shown by the manual indicator To select a custom pro gram press the mode button repeatedly until one of the two custom program in dicators lights E Program ON S 301 OA E Press the start button to start the program A moment after the start button is pressed the walking belt will begin to move Hold the handrails and carefully begin walking 4 Press the record button and program the desired speed and incline settings When the record button is pressed the record indictor will light Speed and incline set ti
9. the key fully into the console See step 1 on page 9 Make sure that the on off switch is in the on position 3 SYMPTOM The pulse sensor does not function properly a Make sure to stand on the foot rails and avoid moving your hands whilst measuring your heart rate Excessive movement may interfere with heart rate readings If the pulse sensor is not used correctly your heart rate will not be shown Do not hold the metal contacts too tightly doing so may interfere with heart rate readings For the most accurate heart rate reading hold the contacts for about 15 seconds For optimal performance of the pulse sensor keep the contacts clean The contacts can be cleaned with a soft cloth never use alcohol abrasives or chemicals 17 16 HOW TO LOWER THE TREADMILL FOR USE 1 Hold the upper end of the treadmill with your right hand as shown Using your left hand pull the latch knob to the left and hold it Pivot the treadmill down until the frame is past the pin Slowly release the latch knob 2 Hold the treadmill firmly with both hands and lower the treadmill to the floor CAUTION To decrease the possibil ity of injury bend your legs and keep your back straight STEP BY STEP CONSOLE OPERATION Before using the console remove the thin layer of plastic covering the top of the console Next make sure that the on off switch near the power On E cord is in the on position In Position Zh addition ma

13. belt simply wipe off the lubricant with a soft cloth and a mild non abrasive cleaner 1 With the help of a second person carefully raise the Uprights 15 until the treadmill is in the position shown 2 Make sure that the Lock Knob Sleeve 93 is fully in serted into the left Upright 15 Remove the Lock Knob 92 from the Lock Pin 97 Make sure that the Lock Pin Collar 95 and the Spring 94 are on the Lock Pin Insert the Lock Pin into the left Upright 15 and tighten the Lock Knob onto it 3 Make sure that all parts are tightened before you use the treadmill Keep the included allen wrench for adjusting the walking belt see MAINTENANCE AND TROUBLE SHOOTING on pages 14 and 15 Place a mat under the treadmill to protect the floor or carpet CONDITIONING GUIDELINES AWARNING Before beginning this or any exercise program consult your physi cian This is especially important for individu als over the age of 35 or individuals with pre existing health problems The pulse sensor is not a medical device Various factors including your movement may affect the accuracy of heart rate readings The sensor is intended only as an exercise aid in determining heart rate trends in general The following guidelines will help you to plan your ex ercise program Remember these are general guide lines only For more detailed exercise information ob tain a reputable book or consult your physician EXERCISE INTENSITY
14. des or press the gt weights above your CAS head To increase the QO intensity of your exer cise use the 3 pound O 1 4 kg weights WARNING Do not use the hand weights at speeds faster than a walk Using weights and not holding the handrails may compromise your ability to maintain your balance Exercises with weights should be at tempted only by experienced users Weight Rack The hand weights can be stored in the foment anon handy weight rack on the console THE OPTIONAL CHEST PULSE SENSOR An optional chest pulse sensor adds even more features to the console The chest pulse sensor offers hands free operation and continuously monitors your heart rate during your workouts To purchase the optional chest pulse sensor please call our Customer Service Department see the back cover of this manual E Set a maximum incline or speed setting If you selected an incline program a number will flash in the time incline display This number is the maximum incline that the treadmill will reach during the selected program If you want to change the maximum incline setting press the incline increase button The maximum incline setting can be from 4 to 10 If the setting is increased the difficulty level of the entire program will in crease lf the setting is decreased the difficulty level of the entire program will decrease If you selected a speed program a n
15. e is near the lowest number in your training zone It may also be helpful to use incline program 3 or 4 or speed program 4 5 or 6 on the con sole see pages 10 and 11 For maximum fat burning adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the middle number in your training zone Aerobic Exercise If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular sys tem your exercise must be aerobic Aerobic exercise is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time This increases the demand on the heart to pump blood to the muscles and on the lungs to oxygenate the blood For aerobic exercise adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone It may also be helpful to use incline program 1 or 2 or speed program 1 2 or 3 See pages 10 to 11 WORKOUT GUIDELINES Each workout should include the following three parts A Warm up Start each workout with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise A proper warm up in creases your body temperature heart rate and circula tion in preparation for exercise Training Zone Exercise After warming up increase the intensity of your exercise until your pulse is in your training zone for 20 to 60 minutes Note During the first few weeks of your exercise program do not keep your pulse in your training zone for longer than 20 min utes A Cool down Finish each

23. ngs can be pro grammed only when the indicator is lit Each custom program is divided into one minute periods One speed setting and one incline setting can be programmed for each period The speed setting for the first period is shown in the flashing CURRENT PERIOD column of the LED matrix The incline settings are not shown in the matrix To program speed and incline settings for CURRENT PERIOD 0000000 00000000 the first period simply adjust the speed and in cline of the treadmill to the desired levels with the speed and incline buttons Every few times the speed buttons are pressed one additional indica tor will light or darken in the CURRENT PERIOD column When the first one minute period of the program is completed a series of tones will sound and the current speed and incline settings will be stored in memory All settings shown in the LED matrix will then move one column to the left and the speed setting for the second period will be shown in the CURRENT PERIOD column Program speed and incline settings for the second period as described above Repeat this procedure until you have pro grammed speed and incline settings for as many periods as desired Programs can have up to forty periods Note To stop the program for a moment press the stop button The displays will pause and the time incline display will begin to flash To restart the program press the s

27. owing important precautions and information before operating the treadmill 1 10 11 It is the responsibility of the owner to ensure that all users of this treadmill are adequately informed of all warnings and precautions Use the treadmill only as described in this manual Place the treadmill on a level surface with eight feet 2 m of clearance behind it Do not place the treadmill on any surface that blocks air openings To protect the floor or carpet from damage place a mat under the treadmill When choosing a location for the treadmill make sure that the location and position per mit access to a plug Keep the treadmill indoors away from mois ture and dust Do not put the treadmill in a garage or covered patio or near water Do not operate the treadmill where aerosol products are used or where oxygen is being administered Keep children under the age of 12 and pets away from the treadmill at all times The treadmill should not be used by persons weighing more than 250 pounds 115 kg Never allow more than one person on the treadmill at a time Wear appropriate exercise clothing when using the treadmill Do not wear loose cloth ing that could become caught in the treadmill Athletic support clothes are recommended for both men and women Always wear athletic shoes Never use the treadmill with bare feet wearing only stockings or in sandals When connecting the power cord see page 7 plug t

29. t ten minutes of the program and then gradually decrease during the last ten minutes Each program begins with a warm up period and ends with a cool down period HOW TO FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR STORAGE Before folding the treadmill adjust the incline to the lowest position If this is not done the treadmill may be perma nently damaged Next unplug the power cord CAUTION You must be able to safely lift 45 pounds 20 kg in order to raise lower or move the treadmill 1 Hold the treadmill as shown at the right CAUTION To de crease the possibility of injury bend your legs and keep your back straight As you raise the treadmill lift with your legs rather than your back Raise the treadmill about halfway to the vertical position 2 Move your right hand to the position shown and hold the treadmill firmly Using your left hand pull the latch knob to the left and hold it Raise the treadmill until the latch pin is aligned with the hole in the catch Insert the latch pin into the catch Make sure that the latch pin is fully inserted into the catch To protect the floor or carpet from damage place a mat under the treadmill Keep the treadmill out of direct sun light Do not leave the treadmill in the storage position in temperatures above 85 Fahrenheit 30 Celsius HOW TO MOVE THE TREADMILL Before moving the treadmill convert the treadmill to the storage position as described abo
