3.         6     7     8     Remove the metal shield from the drive bay by inserting a flat blade  screwdriver into one of the slots and gently prying it loose                 sssoseccsss O                Remove the plastic panel in the bezel for bay 2 by squeezing the plastic tabs  that secure the panel on the inside of the bezel     Make sure the drive that you are installing is set correctly as either a master  or a slave device     e If it is the first CD drive or DVD drive  set it as a master device   e If it is an additional CD drive or DVD drive set it as a slave device     Refer to the documentation that comes with your drive for master slave  jumper information     Chapter 3  Installing options    31    9  Install the drive into the bay  Align the screw holes and install four screws to  secure the drive              S0000                    10  A hard disk drive requires two cables  a power cable that connects to the  power supply and a signal cable that connects to the system board        The steps to connect a drive are different depending on the type of drive you are  connecting  Use one of the following procedures for your drive connection     Connecting the first CD drive or DVD drive  1  Locate the three connector signal cable that comes with your computer or with  the new drive     2  Locate the secondary IDE connector on the system board  See     Identifying parts  on the system board    on page 21     3  Connect one end of the signal cable to the drive and the

Lenovo 2005  2007  Portions    IBM Corp  2005  47    Password considerations    A password can be any combination of up to twelve characters  a z and 0 9  and  symbols  For security reasons  it is a good idea to use a strong password that  cannot be easily compromised  Strong passwords typically adhere to the following  rules     e Have at least eight characters in length      Contain at least one alphabetic character  one numeric character  and one symbol  e Contain at least one of the following symbols                    You can also use the space bar      Setup Utility program and hard disk drive passwords are not case sensitive      Not be your name or your user name      Not be a common word or a common name      Be significantly different from your previous password    User Password    When a User Password is set  the user is prompted to type a valid password each  time the computer is turned on  The computer cannot be used until a valid  password is typed from the keyboard     Administrator Password    Setting an Administrator Password deters unauthorized persons from changing  configuration settings  If you are responsible for maintaining the settings of several  computers  you might want to set an Administrator Password     After you set an Administrator Password  a password prompt is displayed each  time you try to access the Setup Utility program     If both the user and administrator passwords are set  you can type either  password  However  to change any conf

To use Product Recovery discs on Windows XP  do the following     Attention  When you restore the factory contents from the Product Recovery  discs  all files currently on the hard disk will be deleted and replaced by the  original factory contents  During the restore process  you will be given the  opportunity to save one or more files currently on your hard disk drive to other  media before any data is removed     1  Insert the Rescue and Recovery startup disc into your CD or DVD drive   2  Restart your computer   3  After a short delay  the Rescue and Recovery workspace opens     Note  If the Rescue and Recovery workspace fails to open  you might not have  your startup device  CD drive or DVD drive  set correctly in your BIOS  startup sequence  See    Setting a rescue device in the startup sequence     an more information    4  If you have set a Master password  type your password when prompted     5  In the Rescue and Recovery menu  click Restore your system     6  Follow the instructions on the screen  Insert the appropriate Product Recovery  disc when prompted     Note  After restoring your hard disk to the original factory content  you might  have to reinstall some software or drivers  See    Using the Rescue and    Recovery workspace    on page 41 for details   To use Product Recovery discs on Windows Vista  do the following     Attention  When you restore the factory contents from the Product Recovery  discs  all files currently on the hard disk will be deleted and
