12. the working range The system is designed to measure the relative elevation of an installed horizontal pipe normally laid in a backfilled trench within the foundation of a structure As the probe is pulled through the pipe its elevation with respect to the pressure transducer at the reel is indicated on the Field PC Digital Hydrostatic Profile Gauge Itmsoll Close Up view of charger Close Up view of Reel centre socket see section 11 and hub with pressure gauge Schrader valve for nitrogen air pressure recharging see section 12 User Manual Section 4 System and HPG Port Software Overview 4 01 System Overview Readings are taken by pulling the probe through access tubing installed in the ground or structure under investigation stopping at intervals to read the probes relative elevation The intervals are marked on the probes tubing with numbered metal tags every 1m and the elevation measured is relative to surveyed reference studs embedded in concrete slabs at each end of the tube If the access tubing is exceptionally long readings may be taken from both ends but usually the procedure is to pull the probe right through using a draw cord and read from one end Relative changes are monitored so it is necessary to establish a datum or base set of readings at an early stage in construction to which all subsequent sets of readings are referenced to determine settlement and or heave Special care must be taken when rec
