3. 3 Calf Achilles Stretch With one leg in front of the other reach forward and place your hands against a wall Keep your back leg straight and your back foot flat on the floor Bend your front leg lean forward and move your hips toward the wall Hold for 15 counts then relax Repeat 3 times for each leg To cause further stretching of the achilles tendons bend your back leg as well Stretches Calves achilles tendons and ankles 4 Quadriceps Stretch With one hand against a wall for balance reach back and grasp one foot with your other hand Bring your heel as close to your buttocks as possible Hold for 15 counts then relax Repeat 3 times for both legs Stretches Quadriceps and hip muscles 5 Inner Thigh Stretch Sit with the soles of your feet together and your knees outward Pull your feet toward your groin area as far as possible Hold for 15 counts then relax Repeat 3 times Stretches Quadriceps and hip muscles to cool down This will increase the flexibility of your muscles and will help to prevent post exercise problems Exercise Frequency To maintain or improve your condition complete three workouts each week with at least one day of rest be tween workouts After a few months you may com plete up to five workouts each week if desired The key to success is to make exercise a regular and enjoyable part of your everyday life PART LIST Model No PFTL39100 Key No Qty

6. surge suppressor must have a UL suppressed voltage rating of 400 volts or less and a minimum surge dissipation of 450 joules The surge suppressor must be electrically rated for 120 volts AC and 15 amps This product must be grounded If it should malfunc tion or break down grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of elec tric shock This product is equipped with a cord having an equipment grounding conductor and a grounding plug Plug the power cord into a surge suppressor and plug the surge suppressor into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances Important The treadmill is not compatible with GFCl equipped outlets This product is for use on a nominal 120 volt circuit and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illus trated in drawing 1 below A temporary adapter that looks like the adapter illustrated in drawing 2 may be used to connect the surge suppressor to a 2 pole receptacle as shown in drawing 2 if a properly grounded outlet is not available Grounded Outlet Box Grounding Pin Grounded Outlet Grounding Plug Grounded Outlet Box Surge Suppressor Metal Screw The temporary adapter should be used only until a properly grounded outlet drawing 1 can be installed by a qualified electrician The green colored rigid ear lug or the like extending from the adapter must be connected to a
7. the treadmill walking belt is coated with high performance lubricant During shipping small amount of lubricant may be transferred to the top of the walking belt or the shipping carton This is a normal condition and does not affect treadmill performance If there is lubricant on top of the walking belt simply wipe off the lubricant with a soft cloth and a mild non abrasive cleaner MM ea NC Extension Leg Screw 34 2 emm Handrail Screw 13 Handrail Washer 32 Latch Screw 88 2 1 With the help of a second person carefully raise the Uprights 14 until the treadmill is in the position shown 2 Insert one of the Extension Legs 41 into the treadmill as shown Make sure that the Base Pad 36 is on the indi cated side Note It may be helpful to tip the Uprights 14 in the direction shown by the arrow as you insert the Extension Leg To fully insert the Extension Leg it may be necessary to tap it with a mallet Attach the Extension Leg 41 with an Extension Leg Screw 34 Be sure to push on the head of the Extension Leg Screw while tightening it Attach the other Extension Leg 41 in the same way 3 Slide a Rubber Ring 74 onto the post on each Upright 14 Refer to the inset drawing Make sure that each Rubber Ring is turned so the tapered side is toward the thickest part of the post Tapered Side 4 Slide the upper end of

N to help you main tain the proper intensity level See page 9 Aerobic Exercise If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular sys tem your exercise must be aerobic Aerobic exercise is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time This increases the demand on the heart to pump blood to the muscles and on the lungs to oxygenate the blood For aerobic exercise adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone It may also be helpful to set the speed control on the console to AEROBIC to help you maintain the proper intensity level See page 9 High Performance Athletic Conditioning If your goal is high performance athletic conditioning set the speed control on the console to PERFOR MANCE to help you maintain the proper intensity level See page 9 Note During the first few weeks of your exercise program keep your heart rate near the low end of your training zone HOW TO MEASURE YOUR HEART RATE To measure your heart rate stop ex ercising and place JOT two fingers on your NT wrist as shown Take a six second heartbeat count and multiply the re sult by ten to find your heart rate A six second count is used because your heart rate drops quickly when you stop exercising If your heart rate is too high or too low adjust the speed or incline of the treadmill accordingly WORKOUT GUIDELINES A wel

RD Using the allen wrench turn the left rear roller adjustment bolt clockwise and the right bolt counterclockwise 1 4 of a turn each Be careful not to over tighten the walking belt Plug in the power cord insert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is centered key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the allen wrench turn the left rear roller adjustment bolt counterclockwise and the right bolt clockwise 1 4 of a turn each Be careful not to over tighten the walking belt Plug in the power cord insert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is centered If the walking belt slips when walked on first remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the allen wrench turn both rear roller adjustment bolts clockwise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is correctly tightened you should be able to lift each side of the walking belt 2 to 3 inches off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Plug in the power cord insert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened 13 CONDITIONING GUIDELINES A WARNING Before beginning this or any exercise program consult your physician This is especially important for in dividuals over the age of 35 or individuals with pre existing health problems The following guidelines will help you to plan your ex ercise program Rem

15. ember these are general guide lines only For more detailed exercise information ob tain a reputable book or consult your physician EXERCISE INTENSITY Whether your goal is to burn fat or to strengthen your cardiovascular system the key to achieving the desired results is to exercise with the proper intensity The proper intensity level can be found by using your heart rate as a guide The chart below shows recommended heart rates for fat burning and aerobic exercise HEART RATE TRAINING ZONES AEROBIC 165 155 140 130 To find the proper heart rate for you first find your age at the bottom of the chart ages are rounded off to the nearest ten years Next find the three numbers at the top of your age The three numbers are your training zone The lower two numbers are recommended heart rates for fat burning the higher number is the recommended heart rate for aerobic exercise Fat Burning To burn fat effectively you must exercise at a relatively low intensity level for a sustained period of time During the first few minutes of exercise your body uses easily accessible carbohydrate calories for energy Only after the first few minutes does your body begin to use stored fat calories for energy If your goal is to burn fat adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near one of the lower two numbers in your training zone It may also be helpful to set the speed control on the console to FAT BUR

18. l rounded workout includes the following three important parts A Warm up Start each workout with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise see SUGGESTED STRETCHES on page 15 A proper warm up increases your body temperature heart rate and circulation in preparation for exercise 14 Training Zone Exercise After warming up increase the intensity of your exer cise until your pulse is in your training zone for 20 to 60 minutes During the first few weeks of your exer cise program do not keep your pulse in your training zone for longer than 20 minutes Breathe regularly and deeply as you exercise never hold your breath A Cool down Finish each workout with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching SUGGESTED STRETCHES The correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right Move slowly as you stretch never bounce 1 Toe Touch Stretch Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible Hold for 15 counts then relax Repeat 3 times Stretches Hamstrings back of knees and back 2 Hamstring Stretch Sit with one leg extended Bring the sole of the opposite foot to ward you and rest it against the inner thigh of your extended leg Reach toward your toes as far as possible Hold for 15 counts then relax Repeat 3 times for each leg Stretches Hamstrings lower back and groin

21. one of the Handrails 2 onto the post on one of the Uprights 14 Push the Handrail as far forward as possible Note It may be necessary to pivot the Handrail to the side and back repeatedly see arrow B while pushing on the Handrail see arrow A to slide it fully into the Upright Tighten a Handrail Screw 13 into the Handrail Attach the other Handrail 2 as described above 5 With the help of a second person carefully tip the Uprights 14 down as shown Align the lower ends of the Handrails 2 with the holes in the Extension Legs 41 Be careful not to scratch the Extension Legs Tighten a Handrail Bolt 15 with a Handrail Washer 32 into each Extension Leg and Handrail as shown Notice the angle of the Handrail Bolt Attach the Bolt and Washer at the observed angle It should be close to the angle of the Handrail see the inset drawing With the help of a second person carefully tip the Uprights 14 back to the upright position Make sure that the Handrail Screws 13 see drawing 4 and the Handrail Bolts 15 are tightened 6 Attach the Storage Latch 12 to the left Upright 14 with the Latch Spacer 23 and two Latch Screws 88 Be careful not to overtighten the Latch Screws 7 Make sure that all parts are tightened before you use the treadmill Keep the included allen wrench in a se cure place The allen wrench is used to adjust the walk ing belt see page 13 To protect the floo

23. r place a mat under the treadmill 6 OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENT THE PERFORMANT LUBE WALKING BELT Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with PERFORMANT LUBE a high performance lubricant IMPORTANT Never apply silicone spray or other substances to the walking belt or the walking plat form Such substances will deteriorate the walking belt and cause excessive wear HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD A DANG ER Improper connection of the equipment grounding conductor can result in an increased risk of electric shock Check with a qualified electrician or service man if you are in doubt as to whether the product is properly grounded Do not modify the plug provided with the product if it will not fit the outlet have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician Your treadmill like any other type of sophisticated electronic equipment can be seriously damaged by sudden voltage changes in your home s power Voltage surges spikes and noise interference can result from weather conditions or from other appliances being turned on or off To decrease the possibility of your treadmill being damaged always use a surge suppressor with your treadmill see drawing 1 at the right To purchase a surge suppressor see your local PROFORM dealer or call 1 800 999 3756 and order part number 146148 Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that is UL 1449 listed as a transient voltage surge suppressor TVSS The
24. rd has been plugged in make sure that the key is fully inserted into the console c Check the circuit breaker located on the treadmill near the power cord If the switch protrudes as shown the circuit breaker has tripped To reset the circuit breaker wait for five Tripped D minutes and then press the switch back in Reset 2 SYMPTOM THE POWER TURNS OFF DURING USE a Check the circuit breaker located on the treadmill frame near the power cord see 1 c above If the circuit breaker has tripped wait for five minutes and then press the switch back in b Make sure that the power cord is plugged in c Remove the key from the console Reinsert the key fully into the console d If the treadmill still will not run please call our Customer Service Department toll free 3 SYMPTOM THE DISPLAYS OF THE CONSOLE DO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY a Check the batteries in the console See BATTERY INSTALLATION on page 8 Most problems are the result of drained batteries b Remove the key from the console and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Remove the screws from the hood Carefully remove the hood Locate the Reed Switch 86 and the Magnet 87 on the left side of the Pulley 85 Turn the Pulley until the Magnet is aligned with the Reed Switch Make sure that the gap between the Magnet and the Reed Switch is about 1 8 If necessary loosen the Screw 82 and move the Reed Switch slightly Retighten the Screw Re attach the hood and run the t

26. readmill unplug the power cord Caution You must be able to safely lift 45 pounds 20 kg in order to raise lower or move the treadmill 1 Hold the treadmill with your hands in the locations shown at the right To decrease the possibility of injury bend your legs and keep your back straight As you raise the treadmill make sure to lift with your legs rather than your back Raise the treadmill about halfway to the vertical position 2 Move your right hand to the position shown and hold the treadmill firmly Raise the treadmill until the storage latch closes over the catch Make sure that the storage latch is fully engaged over the catch To protect the floor or carpet from damage place a mat under the treadmill Keep the treadmill out of direct sunlight Do not leave the treadmill in the stor age position in temperatures above 85 Fahrenheit HOW TO MOVE THE TREADMILL Before moving the treadmill convert the treadmill to the stor age position as described above Make sure that the stor age latch is closed fully over the catch 1 Hold the upper ends of the handrails Place one foot on the base as shown 2 Tilt the treadmill back until it rolls freely on the front wheels Carefully move the treadmill to the desired loca tion To reduce the risk of injury use extreme caution while moving the treadmill Do not move the treadmill over an uneven surface 3 Place one foot on the base and carefully lower the tread mil
