Oce Arizona GI amp XT Printers Customer Application Bulletin Number 32 Issued by DGS S amp S Vancouver July 21 2009 How to Work Safely in a UV Ink Environment Both UV inks and UV curing lamps can be harmful if not properly handled Follow the safety tips presented here in order to ensure safe work procedures and a secure work environment For more detailed information on safety issues read the Safety Information chapter in the Oc Arizona Printer User manual Work Safely Secure Your Environment e Check the Site Preparation Guide for proper environment and ventilation conditions e Download and print the Material Safety Data Sheets from the DGS web site e Avoid working hastily Customer Support Web Site Refer to the DGS web site for access to the latest user manual site preparation guide application notes customer application bulletins media models MSDS and compliance information http www oce dgs com PrinterSupport PrinterSupportUser_ index htm Disposal of UV ink Waste All waste containing uncured or partly cured UV ink should be considered as hazardous waste Collect UV ink waste separately and dispose according to local regulations Do not dispose of ink waste together with other garbage and do not allow it to reach sewage systems nor to contaminate drinking water supplies Ink waste includes maintenance pads and cloths uncured prints gloves and any other waste containing uncured or poorly cured in
2. k Ink Safety Wear safety glasses with side shields Avoid skin contact with ink Wear Nitrile rubber gloves If a glove is contaminated with ink discard it within a few minutes Do not handle prints without gloves if ink is not properly cured e Do not reuse single use gloves especially when they are contaminated with ink Page 1 of 2 e Higher lamp power is better to minimize the risk of irritation and sensitization If for reasons of image quality or media issues the lamp power must be reduced please be careful when handling the printed items and avoid contact with any uncured ink that may result from lower lamp power e If UV ink contacts your eyes Flush with water consult the MSDS and contact a doctor e If UV ink contacts your skin Clean immediately with soap and water e UV inks are not suitable for food related or children related applications UV Light Safety e Be aware that UV light is an invisible risk e Some medications can make you more susceptible to UV light e Keep a distance of at least 1 m 3 ft to the UV light e Use the supplied UV safety glasses e Keep your arms and waist covered with clothing e Do not sit within 5 meters 17 feet of the carriage path as the UV light emissions are less shielded at that lower level Page 2 of 2
