ON Press SELECT This will activate the alarm time options You will see the alarm hour flashing e Press UP directional arrow to select the hour you want displayed Note that AM PM changes as you scroll through the hours e Press RIGHT directional arrow to save the alarm hour and advance to the alarm minutes Program the minutes the same way as with the hours e Press SELECT to save the alarm time The display will show ON and the alarm icon will be displayed e Press MENU to exit the programming mode To temporarily silence the sleep alarm press WEATHER SNOOZE This will advance the alarm time by 9 minutes To silence the alarm for the remainder of the day press MENU Specific Area Message Encoding S A M E Count Codes In addition to your own county code you can get the S A M E county code s for other counties close to you especially the counties in the direction from which most of the storms come Determine the counties you are interested in To acquire the S A M E county codes contact one of the following The National Weather Service Toll Free Number 1 888 NWS S A M E or 1 888 697 7263 When you call the NWS toll free number automated instructions will guide you to the S A M E county code s you need The number will be six digits long e You will hear Welcome to the National Weather Service You have reached the Specific Area Message Encoding Program Service e If you select touch tone2. 11. o the public NOAA transmits the coded emergency signals using a technique called Specific Area Message Encoding S A M E The Alert Works EAR 10 Emergency Alert Weather Radio is designed to receive these S A M E county code transmissions The National Weather Service divides the United States by state and county or parish and assigns a six digit code number called a Federal Information Processing System FIPS code also known as a S A M E county code You can program the Alert Works EAR 10 Emergency Alert Weather Radio with up to 25 S A M E county codes The weather radio allows you to receive broadcast alerts for your own county and or up to 25 other counties This will eliminate the broadcast of any alerts that are not within your area of interest When you program your S A M E county code s into the weather radio you eliminate any alerts that are not within those counties Warnings watches and statements of weather and other area emergencies about 50 different types will activate the weather radio for only your programmed area s The S A M E message the NWS sends contains information pertaining to the period for which the alert is valid NWS can set the active time of the alert from 15 minutes to 6 hours When the designated time has passed the weather radio display message and light will automatically reset to their normal appearance 13 S A M E County Code Record Use this space to keep a record of the S A M E

14. sequence you used to program them Adding New S A M E Event Codes Periodically the National Weather Service may find it necessary to add new alert codes to the system The EAR 10 will allow the user to program up to five new S A M E event codes into the radio The new S A M E message code is divided into three categories 1 Event code PIL code 2 Display the text message on the LCD 3 Severity status of the event The user must enter all three categories for the new S A M E message to function correctly To add a new S A M E message code please follow the following steps e Press the MENU button e Press UP or DOWN button to show ADD ALERTS on the display e Press SELECT button to show NEW 1 on display The number 1 should be blinking on the display e Press UP or DOWN button to choose a different new alert number or press SELECT button to make your choice e To activate the first of the three categories below NEW ALERT press UP or DOWN button and LEFT or RIGHT button to select the alphabet characters to spell the three character event code of the new alert e Next press the SELECT button to show the upper line of the display which will display the message received Eleven character spaces are available for the description Press UP or DOWN button or LEFT or RIGHT button to choose the letters and spaces for the description e Next press the SELECT button to choose the level of the event All event codes ending in an A should b
